    Default Hypocritical racists

I fucking hate people who bitch about how they're victims of racism and/or prejudice, but do the exact same thing to others. I became aware of this when I was 11 years old in the 6th grade. This one kid in my art class would call me Jap, Chink, Gook, slant-eye, yellow, dog-eater, immigrant, etc every day and tell me and tell me to go back to my country (I'm a fucking US citizen and half American). One day, I told him that those were racial slurs, and that him calling me those names were the equivilent of me calling him a n**ger, hoping to put things into perspective. He went apeshit and told everyone (I actually heard some kids saying, "Omigod, that Jap girl called Tony a n**ger,") which ended with me getting sent to the principal's office. He got in-school suspension and I got off b/c the principal was a lot more reasonable than most of the staff. I got called racial slurs every day in most of my classes in plain hearing range of the teachers, who did nothing or even laughed! Yet, if the N-word had been uttered, heads would have rolled. I don't fucking get it. Why are some racial slurs more taboo than others, and why do some people do the same to others as they claim others are doing to them?

A simiar situation occurred at the nursing home that I recently quit. I realized that a lot of the problems I had were race-related when I was working my ass off to get the trays passed out while a couple other nursing assistants and the nurse on duty were sitting there, paging through the latest Mary Kay catalogue. I asked for some help, and one particularly nasty girl smirked, "I know this scrawny little whitey isn't trying to act like she's boss." The nurse laughed. I later reported her to the Assistant Director of Nursing, who laughed at me and told me that I was lazy and would have to gain her trust. These same people often complained about the only white nurse who would report them for laziness and bad behavior (rightfully, so, I saw some horrific neglect at the nursing home), claiming that she was racist and a tattletale. How ironic.

I am not racist. I've dated black, white, Hispanic, and Asian guys, and Middle Eastern guys, and my friends are all colors of the rainbow, but unlike SOME PEOPLE, I would never put them through what I've been put through.

it sucks that all of that happened to you. i don't think there's a logical explanation for why people behave that way and use racial slurs, except that they are ignorant, fearful (needlessly) and or hateful. very sad that it's still a problem in today's world...i guess the only things that people can do are to encourage tolerance, and not be so quick to judge (or listen to others who spread the hate). thankfully, things have gotten better than other periods of history, so maybe that's something to be thankful for...

You're going to find there are people out there that use the same broken mentality for just about anything.

It's a circular process- they have to continually speak (in words only) double-standards in order to offset the actions they are doing of the contrary. The more their actions dictate one thing, the more their words have to dredge up the BS denial towards the opposite.

I've noticed that those that preach "anti-racial bigot" the strongest are usually the biggest racial bigots around. It's just like those that constantly have to cry how big a victim they are just to offset the fact they are a bigger victimizer.

Of course, trying to confront these people with the reality of the situation can be a fruitless exercise. Any amount of denial used to maintain this pattern will also be used to invalidate any amount of reality put in front of them. Gotta pity those stuck there... spewing hate/bitterness while exhaustively having to deceive themselves to believe they want/are no part of it.
It doesn't matter if you're somebody in this world, it rather matters you mean the whole world to somebody.

Would you consider someone racist for only wanting to date their own race? just curious..

^It depends. I mean, I can understand why Jews and Catholics would want their kids to marry their own. On the other hand, it's closeminded to exclude other races. My family is biracial, and as long as the parties can coexist, I'm all for it. My parents often have fights based on cultural barriers, so I can also understand if people try to stay within their own culture.

It would be most intriguing to find a racist, who doesn't take offense to what people say about them involving their race.

That truly bears the question: "Does attraction mean Racism?"
You should only date what you're attracted to. This is a much more important involvement of a relationship than racism suggests you can have anyways. If you only date black people because you are attracted to them, who cares. If you do it cause you hate white people, well, you're only short changing yourself, and the problem is that you hate white people. Not that you only date black people.

    Example only.

Go after what you're attracted to.

Krazy Jane, your second example doesn't appear to be an example of racism. People of all races can be equally nasty, just cause they through some terms in there general to that ghetto mentality doesn't mean they wouldn't call you a whitey in an endearing way I am sure... Hell the people in my hood call me Frosted Flake. But then again, I asked for a street name when they where sharing theirs with the boys who moved in from detroit. Hilarious guys. I have to ask them to repeat themselves cause I don't catch it, but they love it cause they like to "Slow it down and proper for the Flake Man" but hey, I like that I can laugh with them, and regardless of what they say or do towards other white guys or whatnot I don't know, but last weekend they all helped me rake my yard for no reason other than to sit down and have some water and bullshit for a while.

I think I've gone on about this too much, but let me say one more thing

I do not know if I am racist. I just know that whatever my initial thoughts of an individual I have never met are normally fuelled by my outside knowledge which may or may not pertain to that individual. As a result, I will never say I like or do NOT like someone until I have sufficient individual evidence. Making snap judgements happens, but with me, they can all be change.

Krazyjane, I love your posts I really do and I am sorry this happened to you. Just remember, racism is a heavy word and in all forms, and the second you use another "race" to validate your own non-racism, you're moving towards it. We know you aren't racist because you appear to treat people equally in regards to who you are and give everyone (at least here) a level amount of respect. Not because you dated black/white/hispanic whichever guys. Seriously take no offense, I just wanted to point out that that sentence didn't make your point. YOU made your point.

    It's a syndrome called,

    Pot calling the kettle black.

All close-minded people suffer from it horrendously.

Just laugh at them and walk away without saying anything. It drives them batty.

This is a very important statement. Throwing aside anything that your head tells you regarding racial preferences and going purely based on what your heart and/or libido tells you would not make you a racist, it would make you an honest person.

That said, I am only attracted to dark haired, light eyed, chubby guys who work with their hands for a living.

I am dooming myself to Blue Collar Comedy land forever.

KrazyJane, it's NOT better to use a racial slur in answer to another or for one slur to be more acceptable than the other. It demeans us all when we can't express our feelings without resorting to the lowest common denominator. You shouldn't have to live like that nor should anyone else.

When did I use a racial slur that dragged me down to the lowest common denominator? I told that guy that him calling me a Jap would be the same as someone calling him a N**ger, but I didn't call him that. The teachers weren't doing anything, so I tried to do something about the situaution. The kid went batshit on his own accord.

KJ, didn't say YOU used it....was just expanding on your idea that one slur is more acceptable than the other. Never even commented on what you actually said to that idiot.

I DID however say that you shouldn't have to live like that, explaining yourself all the time when people should just know enough NOT to speak that way.

That's actually kind of an interesting question. And it really can't be isolated from a greater sociological context. Like if a Jewish woman wants to marry a Jewish man (like not a personal kind of thing, but the I-only-want-to-date-Jewish-people thing) is that racist? Intuitively, I would say no. However if the same Jewish woman said that she only wanted to date black men, is that racist? That I'm a little less sure of - it is certainly fetishist. If that same Jewish woman said that she only found caucasion men attractive - is that racist? Again - if you isolated from a greater context maybe. But look at our conception of beauty. The United Colours of Benetton commercials of the 90s notwithstanding, is largely caucasion in nature. But still - how can you only find caucasion men attractive - by extension finding non-caucasion men unattractive - and not have some internalized racism? Like if you reversed it and said "It's not that I think poorly of Asians. I just think they are an ugly people" - I mean that seems pretty clear.

Ok, Jenny now you have really made it interesting and I have a question.

In my post, I stated my preferences for dating. It's not that I don't find other races attractive, I have never felt that chemistry when interacting with them. Nor do I find myself attracted to blonde, caucasian men, thin caucasian men or caucasian men with brown eyes.

So, is it really racially motivated? Or do I have some warped sense of self righteousness when I proclaim that I'm not a racist?

The N word is considered more dangerous than your slurs because people rioted and burned buildings down over it. If people of asian descent went bat shit over their slurs and burned some buildings down over it teachers probably would have done something about it.

I don't know if this is relevant to the thread, but it's interesting- in Psychology Today (a pop magazine, I know, but they base their stuff on actual studies that I assume have some merit) they said that recent polls on attractiveness (which used people of all different cultures and races as a sample) found that people of mixed race were the overall most attractively rated individuals (celebrity examples included Devon Aoki, Keanu Reeves, Tiger Woods...). The findings clashed with the previous thought that people are attracted to others who more resemble themselves (because the familiar= more attractive psychologically, and we usually grow up looking at our parent who become more familiar). They speculated it was because we are attracted to health, and mixed gene pools are healthier...I don't totally remember. But I think the findings seem to rule out that we are necessarily attracted to certain types for cultural reasons- that perhaps there are psychological reasons.

I don't think being attracted to your own race verses another race is racism. I think it is pretty much the same thing as any other preference such as gender, hair color, body type etc.

That depends. Are they dating their own race because of an attraction to them, or because they feel that mixing of the races is wrong? If it's because that's what you're attracted to the the answer is no.
I go by the who makes you happy rule, I've dated outside my race several dozen times or so because that person made me happy at that point in my life
I think Ice T and Body Count said it best, and I quote:

    ^^^Blade, that is hilarious!!

    To Krazy Jane (hey!):

Unfortunately, a lot of black people feel like they can't be racist because they are discriminated against, and they don't really have the power to be racist (although any body does if you think about it). So I'm a half black half Latin girl and both sides of my family have members who are blatant racists. They think it's okay because they are "oppressed" (for lack of a better word) and they can't "oppress" others. I think that is their logic behind it or at least that's what my father (black) says (who despises, absolutely despises, whites). It's all pretty disgusting if you ask me. I'm so sorry that this happened to you and I'll pull a Bill Clinton and apologize on behalf of all black folk...

Krazyjane I do understand where you are coming from. I went through the same thing in school. Teachers heard all the racial slurs used against me but they did not care. It was really sick. I have an extreme distrust of even my university teachers because of this. Actually the african american and Chicanos kids in the school I went to where more likely to use racial slurs than any of the few white kids. But this was because there was a fight over resources between the black and brown communities. Everyone was poor where I lived as a child so we all got the free luch cards. The tug of war was over limited resources for health care, food stamps, free summer camps for kids, and so on. also as the chicano community grew in greater population than the africanamericans they lost resources that the chicanos got. Social service programs were very much needed but there was not enough to go around.

DylanAngel, I sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding.

Blade, that is hilarious! I think that equal-opportunity offense is hilarious because it targets all equally. It reminds me of a line from Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, "There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on niggers, kikes, wops or greasers. Here, you are all equally worthless."

Francesca, wow, you must be gorgeous from that mix!

It is the in fighting between races that will not allow many lower class communities such as the ones I grew up in to move up. The division and the in fighting will not allow it.
Krazy jane I actually suffered a nervous breakdown and had to drop out of 12th grade because school was so horrible. Home was just as bad at that time too. So I do understand. It really wears down on a person sometimes how horrible people are and how little they care. I too have worked in a retirement center. If I were you I would call state authorities on that nursing home. Yes, it was racist to call you white. Context is everything, and if you had said the same sentence to them they certainly would not take it as a sign of affection.
Venus you are so right about the pot calling the kettle black. Ignorant people are everywhere.
As for race and dating. that is other thread.
