    Default zit on the lip?

I have this little ouchie bump on my upper lip- it's not a cold sore though. I've gotten cold sores before (2, years apart, but I hate them), and they are much different in appearance/sensation to this thing (they grow, get blistery, etc). I think this is a little zit, or itty-bitty whitehead, but on my lip. Anyway, just wondering...I don't want to make out if it's something catchy.

I used to break out right on the edge of my lips. My guess as to why that happened is because in the winter, my lips and the skin right around my lips would get really dry and chapped, so I would layer on tons of carmex on my lips, and I think the carmex made me break out when I got it outside of my lips. A cold sore is usually just red, not like a whitehead which has a white spot in the middle, so it shouldn't be contagious. I always just let them go away on their own, because I didn't want to put any zit cream that close to my sensitive lips- I didn't want to dry them out any more. If it is right on the edge, you can probably cover it up for work with lipliner and lipstick (just dab a lil dot of concealer on it first to hide any redness.

I had that a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know what it was, so I put some makeup on it and went to a movie. By the time I got home, it looked like a golf ball; all I did was touch it lightly and it popped everywhere. Ick. So I just finished popping it and washed it, and it healed up in a day or two.

Sometimes I get a little white zit on my upper lip but i've noticed it happens only when I wax my upper lip. I just let it go away on its self. Nothing too big that makeup can't cover.

I get a zit occasionally on my lip as well. It makes me feel so paranoid because I think once I put lipstick on for work people are going to see the bump and think I have herpes/a cold sore. Plus they are so damn painful and if you mess with them they get even bigger.

I had a cold sore scare,(I have yet to have one) which must have been an ingrown or a hive or something cause my lip swelled up and I was freaking out! I was practically having a nervous breakdown because my boyfriend thought I had cheated on him, which I hadn't, but I was almost positive I had herpes. Anyway, being the insane person I am, I irritated it by putting oil of oregano and other concoctions on it thinking it would kill it, which olnly made it worse. In the end(hours later) I put tend skin on it which helped the swelling and pain and it eventually went away. So...my suggestion is to put Tend Skin(alcohol with aspirin, basically) because if it is irritated and sore it will help numb it and possibly help it go away.

They are really painful- that skin on and around your lips is so sensitive- you kinda just have to leave it alone cuz it hurts too bad to try to pop it or anything.

I get zits on my lip sometimes. I usually get them there from irritation (smoking too many ciggs on a night out drinking or sometimes from kissing a guy with a lot of stubble). They SUCK and are so gross looking..even worse than the normal acne I get.

    What I do:

I use an ice pack to bring down the swelling as much as possible. When it starts to come to a head, DONT POP IT. FOr me this just makes it a lot more irritated and it keeps getting infected over and over again. At the point where you can see puss in it (ew) I put a hot compress on it, and then soak a little peice of cotton ball in an epsom salt solution (put a bunch of the salt in a little cup of water) and stick it on there. The salt seems to help speed up healing for me. Then usually I shower, wash my face, and apply a benzoyl peroxide acne medication all over my face (www.acne.org I get mine there, its good stuff). It takes a couple days but it usually heals. The bad part is that whenever I get a zit it leaves a mark behind for a good 6 months sometimes. Thank god for concealer, I hate my skin.

Thanks all. I got it to heal pretty quick> I actually did pop it, which hurt like hell, but it always seems to fix it if I clean it really well afterward. I agree, benzoyl peroxide is the way to go. I go through buckets during break outs.

What I learned back in school is that 95% of the population is infected with the cold sore virus (the one on your mouth) Herpes Simplez 1, but only certain people break out. Some people's immune system can fight it and some can't. So, if you've not had a cold sore yet, then you most likely arent' going to get one and that it's probably a pimple or an allergy bump or something like that. Now this doesn't apply to the Genital Herpes Cold sores, you can get it any time in your life if you have sex with someone who has an active open sore on them.
