I don't know if this is true or not, but I've heard that it's healthy to lose 1-3 pounds a week, and unhealthy to lose more than 5. I could be wrong though- that's just what I've been told.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.
do u even really need to lose the weight, i dont want to sound weird but ive seen ur pics and u have not only a pretty face but a hot body. u are sexy! dont go making urself to skinny its not a good look having bones sticking out.
Doctors advice people who are overweight or obese to lose only 0.5 - 1 kg 1.1Lbs to 2.2Lbs a week, and definitely not more than 1.5kg or 3.3 Lbs a week. What is more important is to keep the weight off permanently, rather than lose and regain the weight quickly.
but going by ur pics i dont think u need it u look healthy
Yep, 1-3 pounds per week is ideal. Of course, this is based upon current weight. Someone who has a lot of weight to lose can safely lose up to 8 pounds per week. But, for someone like you, regan, you will probably only lose 1-2 pounds per week.
If you are not happy with your tone (it doesn't look like you have much body fat) you should incorporate strength training (weight lifting). It won't bulk you up, but it'll help you get lean and tone without losing too much weight. Muscle weighs more than fat, but it takes up less space.
2-3 lbs per week is safe. If you are extremely overweight or obese 4 lbs. would be okay.

And most people get all excited after week number 1, because you lose more (water weight).
Because there ain't no tits on the radio
Actually, losing water weight is good. The best way to lose water weight when you are working out is to drink more water (don't go overboard, though). It flushes your system...most over-weight people are over-weight, not just because of fat, but because of high volumes of water retention due to eating a diet high in salt (most fast foods are insanely high in salt, sugars, and trans fats). When you work out, your body begins "shedding" toxins...which is pushed out through your urine. Drinking water, not only dilutes the toxins, it also enables your body to more effectively cleanse itself. Which is why, for obese people, it is ok to lose up to 8 pounds a week for the first month or two...after that, the weight loss usually drops dramatically, but as long as they keep working out, steadily.
Yeah I guess i just need to tone up...so maybe I shouldnt focus on what the scale says although i fluctuate between 135-140 and im only 5'3...yeah I dont know why i am so heavy he he muscle i guess...my goal is 125 though! Okay thank you guys for the help.
All of these ladies are correct. It is possible to lose 1lb per day, however, as you can probably imagine, that's very unhealthy and unefficent to do. You wouldn't be able to keep it up for very long either.Just for some reference info, 3,500 calories is equal to 1 pound. So, exercise and calorie restriction is the way to go obviously. You'll see the most dramatic weight loss in the first 2 weeks of dieting also. Good luck and keep us updated!
There is some doctor here that everyone is talking about because he gives you shots and appetitie suppressants and puts you on this diet that sound kind of like starving to me and there are people that lose like 40 pounds a month. That just cannot be safe! I mean maybe if you were 400 pounds 40 pounds a month might be okay but that sounds really high to me.

I heard the maximum weight you should lose is 2-3 pounds per week, unless you are very overweight. I watched some of the Celebrity Fit Club 3 episodes on VH1, and some of the celebrities would lose 6 or 7 pounds in one week, but some of the celebs were really overweight. Some of them had 50 or more pounds to lose.

If you want to lose fat (not muscle) then it is only possible to lose 3 lbs per week. Any more weight than that and your body goes into ketosis (ever used those strips that test you urine for keytones while dieting, stupid diet industry) and that is BAD... it means your muscles are wasting away, and with no muscle even a size 1 can be flabby. So be careful
Your body won't go into ketosis unless you're starving yourself. For instance, if the only thing you have over the span of 3 days is water, your body will probably enter ketosis. I believe it'll enter it if you eat under a certain amount also. Try and have atleast 1200 calories a day. (This is the 'safe' restricted amount for most dieters.) And she's right, you don't want to enter ketosis. Ever seen an anorexic looking girl that still has a bit of a gut? Not cute.
Sorry but that is incorrect. Ketosis is when ketones are released from the body which shows that body fat is or has been used as fuel. It does NOT mean that muscles are "wasting away."Originally Posted by wrabbitplay
