Default Where Do You Keep "The Wad"?

In a safe? In the bank? Do you stuff it in the mattress? At my parent's I keep it with my stationary (Pfft, like I ever use stationary ). When I get my own place, though... The last thing I need is someone possibly breaking in and taking it!

P.S. Just to clarify... "The Wad" = cash stash

the bank, but I have a special place for it in my house between bank visits.

I don't believe in the effectiveness of a safe, unless it's at a bank. A safe is good for documents, but not valuables like cash and jewelry.

definately, emily... the worst are the shoebox size (approx.) fireproof kinds... you can break them open with bare hands, or, if you're in a hurry, just by dropping them... *(~shakes her head~)*

I have one of these small safes for when I travel. I know they aren't real sturdy and would be easy to break into, but for traveling I'm just worried about housekeeping or someone looking around in my stuff (I'm paranoid like that). So they're good for travel ( the housekeeper isn't going to take it or break it, because obviously I would know who did it, and they would just have to find out who cleaned my room that day), but not so good to prevent money being stolen during a break-in at your house. I put most of my money in the bank, but when I can't get to the bank I have a special spot that I keep it.

this same argument could be used for things not in a safe, only if you have a safe, it's just screaming "there is something of value in here".

If you put it in a box of band-aids or something, you probably have more security!

^^^^ Ahhh good thinking! I'm always paranoid about things being taken from my hotel room. I always tell them that I don't want any housekeeping, and that if I need more towels or anything I'll come to the front desk to get more, but the last hotel that I stayed at still sent housekeeping into my room.

The bank is always the best place, but if I am traveling I will go and buy money orders at the post office (haven't been to a city that didn't have a post office), and mail them for depoist to my bank right there while I'm in the post office. If you mail your money orders "Priority Mail" they will likely show up the next business day, so you can have access to your funds right away.

Or if I need to get money into my account right away (like I'm that broke ), then I will wire the money there from another bank to my own bank.

When I was travelling I kept it wadded up in a plastic bag. Seriously. I'm not good with money. It never went missing or was stolen, but it was kind of a bitch when I had to count it out to actually do something with it. Even now, at home, when I work full time I tend to have a lot of cash lying around. I keep in a box that used to hold baby wipes. If you are in one place though, bank machines are your friend. Just deposit it like every night.

In the bank, mostly. At home I have a couple places for different stashes... in a sock, under silverware, in a cute little box that you have to flip around to "unlock," that kind of thing. When travelling I used to keep it inside the dustcover of my cars owners manual, but for this summer my girlfriend's pushing the fireproof safe bolted to the floor.

Wow, you guys sure are honest, putting it in the bank and all.

I just thought of something... you know those little novelty items that you can buy to hide stuff (usually weed) in... you know, that you buy from smoke shops? What about getting some of those? I have a fake water bottle, but there's also fake cd stacks, soda cans, etc. Hmm...

I agree, I didn't feel too good about some little safe idea. It's like "STEAL ME!" Even if they couldn't open it very easily, all they'd have to do is take it with them...

I keep it in an envelope under my cat's litterbox untill I can get to the bank. It works rather well, actually.

In the bank. If I'm staying at a hostel (I usually stay in a female only dorm room), I will put it in the locker or one of the many side pockets within the side compartment of my luggage bag... I also usually do this at a time when no other people are in the room. Otherwise, I keep it in my wrist band 'wallet' ..... if I'm staying in my own room I am a bit more lax yet not so lax to have it easily stolen by whoever.

At home, I keep it in an envelope which is leaning against my monitor and since I am on my computer alot and I know how much is in there... (and generally don't allow friends in my room without me being there as well)... the only person I can blame for money going missing is my room-mate.... and since I've lived with him far to long now (over 5 years) I know he doesn't steal my money.

I keep it hidden in things like coffe cans and tea boxes in high cabinets. No one knows.

I don't keep it. I just wipe it off with a baby wipe and go on to the next guy.

The bank is my absolute prefered place to keep money. Anywhere else and it just does not feel safe.

My favorite hiding spot is removing a drawer from my dresser and putting money inside the dresser and then putting the drawer back inside over the money. If you have lots of drawers than there's even more hiding spots. And then my 12"x12" save that's in my closet that's fire proof.

Hey, Goldcoastgirl, where did you find a the wrist wallet? I've looked everywhere and can't find one. Is it the kind that's like a small little bag that velcros? Do you know or does anyone know of a place online that sells those? Thanks!

I convert it to $100 and $50 bills and stash it. I only keep bill money in our joint checking account, and no more than $300-$500 in my individual account.

It feels better to have cash, and not have to go to a bank, produce ID, and be scrutinized when needing money. If you need a large sum of money after hours you will always have it. We get paid in cash, why put it all in the bank? Unless I am charging something I don't want to pay for immediately on a credit card, I pay cash for everything, no matter how large the amount.

If you are creative, you will have a place to hide your cash that is not suspect to the average person.
