Default is strengthening Canadian Dollar hurting business north of the border ?

From an exchange rate of 1.19 CDN$ = 1US$ near the end of last year, the Loonie now appears to be firmly entrenched at 1.14 and trending even stronger. I'm just curious if SW's Canadian contingent has seen a decline in business levels as a result of the Loonie's loss of exchange rate advantage ?

American customers are not all that common in most Vancouver clubs, so there has been little to no loss in that respect.

I haven't been working much lately, but I hear business is a bit slower in general. But then, people always say that .

Thanks Scarlett. I was also thinking of Canadian based businesses which export goods/services to the USA., where the strengthening Loonie makes those goods/services more expensive for potential US customers (while costs from competing US based businesses remain the same)

Many Americans are more reluctant to come to Montreal now and are very concerned about the exchange rate. As far as I know from reading other discussion boards related to the sex industry.

Fortunately for me, most of the companies I contract services to deal in non-exported items (notably telecom).

I did however lose a non-trivial amount of value off of funds owed by an American agent (can you say fiscal mismanagment??) when the US dollar began the downward trend in mid 2004!!

Took 'em 6 months to pay and meanwhile the market whittled a sizeable chunk of the value off the US$

So, to all you Canadians on here: a stronger currency isn't always a good thing!!
