Man, I so wanna go get boobies done by Dr. Rey. It just looks like it would be FUN.

I hear he's not even board certified.
And I feel sorry for his wife, she starved herself just to get his atttention and he didn't even notice until she was like 85 pounds. That guy has some crazy ego issues.
I love that show. I wonder how long of a wait list those docs have now ever since the show. You probably have to wait like 3 years to get a boob job with them.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.
I love that show! I would totally go to him for plastic surgery.
Not board certified... are you serious... how can he get away with that with all his publicity?
it's not against the law to practice plastic surgery without board certification. It's just extra credentials to let you know that the PS passed competency training and exams.
it's obviously something that's desirable, but not necessary.
Fun? I think you're just smitten by him!Originally Posted by lizlizliz

Anyone else think he's gay? I do feel bad for his wife too... he is so caught up in his own world
Anyway, one would imagine that he'd want to be board certified with as much publicity as he gets. I know it's not a requirement, but just to make himself look better.

The only famous Beverly Hills plastic surgeon I would go to is Dr. Garth Fisher.I have seen his work before he was famous and he is very good.

The Doctor is in
He may be a jerk, but 38 million viewers love to hate him
Natasha Singer / New York Times
April 3, 2006
Just before her tummy tuck, Dorie Valdez lay on a gurney in a surgical suite watching her plastic surgeon, Roberto M. Rey Jr., teach a nurse to use nunchucks. Rey spun the weapon in the air, flicked it at an imaginary opponent and deftly tucked it under his armpit.
"I can see your little competition over there, Dr. Rey," said Valdez, 35, a mother of five who works as a personnel specialist at a state prison in Corcoran, Calif.
"We saw him lifting barbells, too," said Valdez's husband, Florentino, who was sitting next to her. "He did that on the TV show, and we were waiting to see him do it in person."
Like many patients in Rey's busy practice, Valdez and her husband had seen him on the E! Entertainment network's "Dr. 90210." Although the show, which has aired for three seasons so far and is currently rerunning at various times, follows the professional and personal lives of six doctors, Rey steals almost every show. When he is not doing martial arts routines or weight lifting in his signature black scrubs, he is consulting with patients while clad in a Versace suit, getting into his black Porsche or swimming with his wife and children in the pool of his Beverly Hills, Calif., mansion. On the show, he hugs his patients, calls them "sweetheart" and even tells them, after he has operated on their breasts, that they look "hot!"
Television has turned Rey into a household name, perhaps the best-known plastic surgeon in America. About 38 million viewers in the United States watched this past season's episodes of "Dr. 90210," according to the E! Network. And though many of Rey's colleagues cringe at his Hollywood style, and the way he has turned plastic surgery into entertainment, he may be the natural offspring of a medical specialty that exalts the body beautiful and the forever-young illusions of show business.
One thing is clear: "Dr. 90210" is the show that traditional plastic surgeons love to hate. Critics including Mark L. Jewell, the president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, say that Rey is a skilled surgeon, but his informal way with patients is inappropriate, even undignified, and the reality show gives viewers the impression that plastic surgery is a casual beauty treatment rather than a serious surgical procedure.
Skeptics in the medical profession question everything from Rey's bedside manner (on a recent show he advised a patient, after giving her breast implants, to "take care of these babies, I worked hard for them") to the way he rakishly wears a stethoscope -- plastic surgeons seldom use one -- draped around his Italian suit collars.
"Plastic surgeons rarely need to listen to someone's heart," said Leslie H. Stevens, a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills.
It is also highly unusual for a surgeon to lift weights immediately before operating because pumping up the arm muscles can lead to tremors or muscle fatigue, Jewell said.
To top it off, critics say, Rey, 44, does not have board certification in plastic surgery, an optional credential that many plastic surgeons consider the gold standard of achievement in their specialty. Some 5,300 plastic surgeons in the United States are certified, according to the American Board of Plastic Surgery Inc. Jewell estimated the number of trained plastic surgeons who are not certified to be fewer than 200.
Rey said he has merely postponed taking the certification exams because he has been too busy.
In portraying himself on television as the antithesis of the white-coated, patrician plastic surgeon, Rey says that he is promoting plastic surgery to a wider population, and showing that it can be a happy experience.
"But reality shows have expanded the plastic surgery market by 33 percent," he said. Other plastic surgeons say their specialty is growing fast enough on its own. Americans had more than 2 million plastic surgery procedures last year, up 119 percent since 1997, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Thanks to Rey's television popularity, his surgical calendar is full until the fall. He has two full-time assistants just to handle the nonstop phone calls.
Many patients and faithful viewers are familiar with Rey's life story as he has presented it: he was raised by a single mother in Sao Paolo, Brazil and spent his youth running with a crowd of teenage hoodlums and committing petty crimes. But even then, he had dreams.
"Walking through the ghetto I was raised in, I knew I was going to go to the United States, go to Harvard, be a plastic surgeon, move to Beverly Hills, become a member of Congress and then become surgeon general," he said.
Rey said he would have pursued board certification if he had the time. "But I came out here, and my involvement with Hollywood skyrocketed," he said. "My wife and I just had two children. Board certification is something that I plan to do, but I haven't had time to do it yet."
Rey has never been found liable of malpractice or disciplined by a hospital, according to the state medical boards in California and Massachusetts.
While he was establishing his practice, he observed how quickly plastic surgery reality shows such as "Extreme Makeover" and the drama "Nip/Tuck" became popular.
"'Nip/Tuck' depicts plastic surgeons as scummy people who are womanizing drug addicts with illegitimate children," Rey said. "I wanted to show that plastic surgeons are ordinary people with families and children and high-pressure jobs."

Nah, no way the guy is gay--in fact I'd bet any amount of money he fucks around on his wife every chance he gets. It's written all over him...Originally Posted by greggy
Nothing against plastic surgery, or even a refreshing informal bedside manner for a doctor, but most people who get plastic surgery don't need it--it's being hyped up even more by this show doesn't help matters.
I've seen a lot of perfect smaller breasts get turned into stupid looking balloons by guys like this, I hate it, lol...
One of my exes was thinking of getting a BA, and we looked at hundreds of before and after pics--I saw maybe 3-4 that really looked better.
At least the guy practices what he preaches, though--he's had his face done, too.

Not at all. He seems flirtatious and btw he oogled at his receptionist's coochie. Looked like he was ready to eat it when he performed her labia surgery.Originally Posted by greggy
And he just has that look in his eyes.
I would hate to be his wife. lol. Poor girl. She should get a hobby though.
I am such a sicko. I think Dr. Rey is totally hot!

Yeah, he does--and she should...Originally Posted by Vyanka
Instead of following him around like a little doggie, she should go out and get some of her own, preferably after leaving him. She's pretty hot herself, and seems like a much more genuinely cool person--so it shouldn't be too difficult.

In my opinion,he relies solely on his ego and image to sell his work.I can't go to a doctor that's like that.

A girl who used to work at my club went to Dr. Rey for her second breast aug. (she wanted to go bigger), and ended up with symmastia AKA uniboob. I can't remember if she went back to him for the revision surgery to attempt to correct the problem (she ultimately needed two more surgeries). While she did say that he messed up her breasts, she didn't really blame him since she insisted that he put in implants that were larger than her torso could accomodate. I believe she had gone to a couple of other surgeons asking for an enlargement, and they refused b/c they knew that she would end up with symmastia.
Also, when I was doing endermologie, the endermologist lady said her friend went to Dr. Rey for a tummy tuck and had a really bad experience. I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but I believe she said he pulled the skin too tight, and she almost hemorrhaged as a result. Sorry, but I don't know as much about tummy tucks as I do other procedures.
So, for what it's worth, there are my two second-hand stories about Dr. Rey.

I think he's a fuc*ing creep! Maybe if he spent less time doing his martial arts he could get board certified. Of course even if he was certified I would never let him touch me. He makes my skin crawl.
I know! I kinda noticed that. He's shallow. She's nice, it goes to show not everything is physical beauty.Originally Posted by Zabrina
Oh yes... let's base our opinion of him on what we see on TV.
Also there have been some board certified surgeons who botched surgeries so board certification doesn't mean they are perfect surgeons.
Bailey did the endermologie work?
