    Default The Rug Dance

A lot of you veteran dancers know what I am talking about. You go on stage to do your 3 song set, the crowd is attentive, and then on the last song, you pull out the white shag rug and roll around in every position for the rug dance finale. The crowd is mesmerized, and the dollars are a flowin'.

What happended to that strip club tradition, and do any of you guys still do this at your clubs?

^^^ This is still done by a few of our girls at my club... I actually have thought about trying it but its not really me.

Another thing... when I was in Az I had this talk with a lot of veteran dancers at one club I worked at they knew almost right away I was from Canada because of the way I danced. They said all the younger girls now just walk on stage they were talking about 'back in the day when everyone had to really dance'.

I love watching it done... its the vetran girls that do it at our club. Not a lot of them but the ones that do it make it look so sexy. And it really grabs a guys attention.

Whew...I haven't seen that in so looong. I haven't seen that in about ten years. I think girls don't do it because the couch room is the big profit center nowadays. It was a very different time.

I used to do pole tricks, flipping off the pole, in time, into a James Brown crouch. I used to do routines to rock, rap, techno and learn the words to direct the sentiment to the big spender of the night. But now, you can do that but it won't automatically get you dances just a fiver or a twenty. We used to (in the NY/NJ bars) get $100 tips and showers of money for the stage show but it's a different world now.

I still use my blanket for the last song. Most girls I know do. I have a very cute Barbie blanket.

You know when I first started it was almost mandatory to do this .

I used a shag rug. ( white with pink flecks in it ) .. I also had a blue one etc ..looked killer in the blacklight .. not to mention saved my knees from damage and my back.

But the rug went out with the stilleto pumps , the slings and the gymnastic moves . I honestly haven't seen it in 5 years.

This was also a time where you didnt go up to customers as much on stage if at all because the stage was your showtime. Where you made 100+ on set. You saved shoving your boobs infaces for dances .

    This industry got lazy.

When's the last time you've heard the guys yell "Take it off" while dancing on stage? LOL.

Last night... I hate it when guys yell that lol... You know I think its just certian areas that have gotten lazy... here its still all about the gymnastic moves, the insane pole tricks and themed shows... mind you we dont have every guy throwing money on the stage(we do have a few regulars who do though) but we still call our stages 'shows'. I guess everywhere is different... we still do have girls that do the 'rug dance' for their last song though.

I see features still doing it sometimes... but house dancers? Last time I personally saw anything similar was about... 10 years ago when they would do two girl shows on stage, on a nice blanket or rug.

Girls at my club still use 'em. But, not in the "floor show" way. Most just bring it on stage to save their knees. I miss the old days. We old schoolers talk to the youngins about back in the day. They end up looking at us like we're from another planet. They can't grasp that less is more. Or it used to be. I'm talking grindage etc. I wonder what would happen if I walked on stage in costume and did a show like I used to.

Can someone describe the kind of dance they used to do on the rug? I've never seen this, but it sounds cool. Just regular floorwork moves, or what?

Yeah, they wouldn't do floorwork without the rug/blanket; you'd lay it down on the stage and do your floor moves on top of it. I used one for Miss Nude Oregon but more as a courtesy to the other dancers to prevent the ice I used from leaving behind water on the stage . . .

I think it's a grand way to protect our delicate skin from the grubby stage and that we should en masse bring it back.
