    Default My Antiquated Music Collection

Well, not antiquated as in "Oh, that music was SO yesterday", but antiquated as I have over 400 cassettes, as opposed to close to 200 CDs.

I was a music buying fiend in the late 80s and early 90s, and, being the luddite that I am, I didnt really start buying CDS on a regular basis until 2001. Thus, I have a ton of 10 to almost 20 year old cassettes that are now starting to deteriorate.

I pick up a replacement CD or two here and there (about maybe 50 of the 200 CDS I have are replacements for cassettes), but I was and still am big into small label, underground type of stuff. Additionally, a lot of the stuff that was big back then is gone today. As far as I can tell, a lot of it is all out of print.

Does anyone have any advice or knowledge or stores, websites and such that deal specifically with re-published or now-out-or-print stuff? I know that some of what I have was never released on to CD and I accept that reality. However, i fI can find stuff that exists in CD form, just harder to find, I would defintely jump at the chance of getting it.

I could post some of the bands/releases to help. That would be kind of fun, actually - you could get a sense of what a young PJ was into way back when.

I know some good places to look, but a list would be somewhat helpful. Said places tend to be very genre-specific. Have you considered ripping the cassettes to cd? It's a pretty simple procedure....at least for the ones that aren't deteriorated past hope. I've been buying cd's since I guess the mid 80's when I was in HS. In longboxes back then, heh. I do still have the odd cassette lying around, but nothing irreplacable.

Well, lets do three "A" ones.

Adrenalin O.D. - "The Wacky Hi-Jinks of Adrenalin O.D" 1982 Buy Our Records
Agent Orange - "This is the Voice" 1986 Enigma Records
Agnostic Front - "Victim in Pain" 1986 Combat Core Records

of the Three, my least expectant of finding on CD is A.O.D.

I could and will post more, if needed.

All I can find for Adrenaline o.d. is

I know some bands, like Muckey Pup for instance, sell their cds via their websites....Adrenaline O.D. doesn't seem to.

I found those sites too. However, they dont seem to offer a way of purchasing their releases, or at least their older ones, which makes me wonder if they exist in CD form.

A lot of the stuff I have were sort of self published after their small labels went under. Those bands that still survive today would be likely to sell them via thier website.

Apparently Combat Records has been relaunched. That might be a good sign.

If I recall right, however, when they went under in the early 90s they sold off all of their catalogue to a larger label (which for the life of me I cant remember), which proceeded to store then away with no intentions of re-releasing anything.

There are no immediate plans to re-issue previously out-of-print catalogue titles, the joint venture will focus entirely on new releases.

I don't know how many pawnshops or used CD stores you have around there, but if you are patient and persistent, you'll eventually find almost anything you want--though the harder to find stuff is--well, harder to find, lol...

I stop at almost every pawn shop or used CD store I drive past, if I have the time, and so have amassed an incredible collection of diverse labels and genres for pennies on the dollar. The odds of finding any one rare CD are not good, but over time, they sure add up.

If God dwells inside us, like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that's what He's getting!

If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

This site may help you with some of the obscure stuff,

One store apparently has a copy of This Is The Voice on CD for about $11. Here's a direct link to that:

Im finding that heaps of the old stuff is still being released. We have a chain of stores here called JB Hifi and I am constantly amazed at what I find there on cd and on record (yay, lol!)
I was sure that I'd seen all of those bands on myspace but I just searched and nothing came up - not even fan sites which seems strange.
I am wondering whether I have the time and patience to burn all of my really hard to get or impossible to replace cassettes onto cd.
So what else are you looking for? (-:

    Another idea...
If you tapes are in good quality, and if you are able to, just hook your tape player to your computer and transfer your music from analog to digital.
Go to Google and search for:"How do i hook up my tape player to my computer?"
    Lots of info.

Try the Grand Theft Audio label. They have re-issued a lot of early 80s hardcore over the years. They might have something close to what you're looking for. You can order their stuff through the Bomp records website listed below:
