Default Dancers becoming waitresses and bartenders

I just thought this was a little strange, every single staff member at my club is a former dancer (except the DJs and bouncers, of course). All of our bartenders and waitresses used to dance. I find this a little strange, as one would think that dancing pays better, but if so many dancers are going through the process of getting training to bartend and/or licenses to serve alcohol, there is probably a good reason, right?

So I was talking to one of the ex-dancers yesterday, and she admitted that she makes about double of what she earned when she danced! This girl is HOT and no dummy, either. She works days when only a few dancers work, and pretty much chats with and entertains the customers while the 3-4 dancers on shift have to keep getting up on stage for their rotation. She told me she sometimes earns as much as $300 in tips on a good day, most days are around $150- This is usually more than the day shift dancers make!! Plus she gets a paycheck for $7.25 an hour. This is on DAYSHIFT.

I guess the night girls regularly make $300+ in tips even on bad nights. Last night, for instance, I made around $120 total (the club was like a ghost town), but one of the waitresses was complaining that she made ONLY $180 in tips.

Hmmm... Maybe I should think about applying for a waitressesing job at a strip club . They pretty much get the same scheduling freedom that the dancers get (there are just fewer shifts available).

I've thought about bartending when I get older. I think some bartenders may do very well if they have the looks and communication skills because they are kind of in charge if you think about it. They are the ones giving you the beer, liquor etc.. I know a lot of guys stereotype us dancers as being dumb, slutty, ditzy girls sometimes. But I think bartenders in a way are at a higher level.

I plan on bartending when I turn 21. All of the bartenders at my club are former dancers. In fact, the bartenders at every club I've worked at is a former dancer. In my experiences however, the waitresses have been wannabe dancers; girls who secretly wish they could dance, but are too chicken and talk sh*t about us dancers behind our backs.

^ Yes, I've always noticed that waitresses/bartenders in SCs make bank- more than many dancers. The only reason I'm dancing instead of bartending/waitressing is my aversion to schedules.

Every club/city is different. But I used to bartend at various night clubs in toronto (never strip clubs) and I could make up to $500 in tips on a GREAT night (say, new years, for example), and on an average night $250.

Then I started dancing, and although the work has way more challenges and downsides, the fact that you don't have to give up every friday and saturday night is priceless to me. I really missed having the option to go out on weekends, and dancing allows for that. Over all, I think the money is better dancing because the sky really is the limit, and i also think it is harder to get a bartending job at a prime club - you really have to be at the right place at the right time, or know someone - they are so sought after.

I made more money waitressing. Even the guys who wouldnt tip dancers or get dances tipped for their drinks.

I would think in Australia this wouldn't work as tips are uncommon and $5 is the smallest note.

As someone who used to work in hospitality locally, take it from me... it is different in Australia. We generally have a higher minimum wage than American to make up for the lack lustre tips.

Personally, if I was to do something like that it would be as a Skimpy not a strip club bar-bitch/wench (used affectionately) or waitresses. That is where the money is at as you get paid an hourly wage (over $20 per hour after the agency takes its cut) and keep all your tips that you collect (when you do "tips for tits" every hour or so). I just don't it that often as I have an aversion to being an employee (and all that entails esp. the strict start/finish times etc).

Some of our waitresses have been dancers before and couldn't make $ so they quit for a while and then came back as waitresses. On average I still make more than them and I can come in and get extra shifts or call in sick whenever I want and not get fired. Also, they have to do alot of shit work and at my club work 9-10 hour shifts on their feet the whole time. Totally not worth it!

It really depends what city your in. I first bartended in a regular bar in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Not to offend anyone, that's my hometown and I love the people there, but people really aren't generous tippers there, or alot of places in the Midwest. Sorry, but it's what I've noticed.
Now I'm bartending in NYC at a regular bar........holy shit the money is equal to if not at times better than dancing. And it is more reliable and consistent. I noticed some similarities to dancing money like at tax time, got a little slow. But on St. Patrick's Day, damn good money. And yes I agree as a dancer I got little respect, behind the bar a good looking woman gets alot more respect.
I'm not going to have any $2000 + nights, etc bartending, but I'd rather have consistent money that at the end of the week or month is the same as dancing pretty much was. And I do get an hourly wage that isn't bad either.
I cocktailed at a strip club briefly, eh....I wasn't all that impressed with the money. To me bartending is better and more prestigious. I'd say cocktailing comes in second to being behind the bar.
It's been cool when I come home with good $$ and think to myself "damn I didn't even have to show anyone my boobs for this". Not that showing my boobs was bad, but when I made the same without, it was a pretty cool feeling.
If you get the opportunity to bartend in a big city like NYC, Boston, Las Vegas, L.A., etc.....go for it. I've found so far that people from the east coast have been the best tippers. And I serve people from all over here. Every time I check an ID it's from another state or country most of the time.

Ex Dancers make great bartenders because they already know how to talk & hustle. Alot of their former clientele will also sit at the bar and tip well in order to still maintain a relationship. Plus ex dancers also tend to be less shy than regular folk on what they might wear or show to 'attract tips'.

The guys always seem to want what they can't have...

In most stripclubs, this means the waitresses and bartenders. Sure, they can't have the dancers, either, unless maybe they are Brad Pitt--but they get to see them nearly (or possibly in some clubs totally) naked onstage, and get them in VIP for God knows what kind of 'next-best-thing' activities.

This is why I have put almost every bartender and waitress I have ever worked with onstage at the end of the night, on the right occasion. You should see the money they get! of course it helps if you egg the guys on about it all night. "Hey, what do you think, guys? Do you want to see Sabrina get onstage? Well, stick around, you never know, maybe we can talk her into it by the end of the night..."

This way they don't cut into the dancers' earnings, either--actually it helps them because the guys stick around all night, lol--everybody's happy.

And a former dancer will be able to work the hell out of this tendency, too, lol...

Dancing has definitely made me a better bartender! I know how to flirt just enough to make big tips behind the bar.
The brief time I did cocktail waitress in a strip club I had more offers than I knew what to do with from guys wanting lap dances, then I started dancing.....and sometimes couldn't sell a dance!! So it's VERY true "men want what they can't have".

I guess I really don't care if our waitresses make more. I have a blast as a dancer and I'll trade less money for satisfaction at the end of the day. I tried waitressing once. I only lasted a night because I was sooooo bored and just wanted to go up and dance!

I was referring to the fact that dancers sometimes make less money than dancers. So, I'd rather be a dancer than a waitress, regardless.

This really doesn't surprise me. I suppose the appeal for a gal is that she can still do the waitress/bartending gig once the ol' form isn't exactly in dancing shape anymore, and she can continue to stick around the scene.

I in fact know of a number of gals who actually pull double duty. They may dance on certain nights, and waitress/bartend on others.

I’m also a bartender/ex-dancer right now, and I make what I guess is considered good money by some of you (Paris)? It is pretty slow in SF right now, but I make $150-$200 on weeknights and $250-$350 on Fri and Sat. nights (5-6 hr. shifts) I am working 4 nights, averaging $800. And this is slow. When I first started bartending it was busy in the city, and I’d average 300/night. I am sure in NY, Vegas, and LA the money must be better at some places. It is not as great as dancing money can be, but as Former_LV_ Dancer pointed out, it is consistent, and you do not have to hustle, the people come to you! I have been thinking about switching over to dancing again, since the money is not that great behind the bar anymore…. I assumed you girls are making $400/night minimum – am I mistaken?

I'm another one who took this route. I now cocktail and bartend in NYC and find it much better money and consistent than dancing ever was. I have so many former dancer friends asking me for a job. You can make either the same or much more bartending/cocktailing at a bar or club than having to show your boobs and take the risk of some guy grabbing you.i do miss dancing. I enjoyed it so much. I just don't enjoy the money not complimenting my work.

I somewhat disagree that waitresses and bartenders make more than dancers...while it's true that in big cities, this is very possible, I know that the waitresses and bartenders here make NOTHING compared to what the dancers make. It depends on what state/area you live in. People here are really cheap when it comes to tipping servers.

the waitresses make consistent money. some dancers have become waitresses that doesn't happen too often, i don't miss waitressing or bartending, i used work my ass off (not at a strip club) and it was hard work, at least when i dance, i can take a break, have a drink, etc. i don;t miss it

I recently started bartending at the club in which I also dance in. I'll probably still primarily just dance there, but I wanted to bartend a couple days a week to break up the monotany.

Anyways I'll tell you this: Being on the other side of the bar and WATCHING the girls I regularly work with is very eye opening. If anything it's made me a better dancer because I see what behaivior truly turns off the customers along with other mistakes girls make (which now I won't).

Another thing about bartending in a strip club (that most girls don't realize) is that the bartender DOES have more control over the customers than the dancers do. A bartender can either make or break you in a few ways.

Since I began bartending once in a while in the club I'm in, a few girls have gotten bitchy towards me. Big mistake. I don't think some of them realize that I will still be dancing, so if they try to get attitude with me when I'm behind the bar, it's more reason for me to be cut-throat on the floor with them later.

Oh and one more thing, lots of men want what they can't have, so if you're a hot bartender who also dances you can really bank because on the days you choose to dance, the guys will want a "taste of the fruit which was once forbidden".
