    Default Poles

I'd really like to put a pole in my apartment, whether I end up dancing or not. It sounds like a lot of fun to play around on (watch me break my arm or something). But it IS an apartment. So I don't think it'd be a good idea for me to, you know, screw things into the ceiling and whatnot. Does anyone have any ideas?

I looked at "portable poles" but they had to be mounted to the ceiling, too, buh. Is there anything that would work for me? And if so, do you recommend a place to buy it from?

i've got the same problem, most apartments have "false" ceilings which can have pressure or screws (not to mention losing the bond), i think the best option would be platinum stages or something tlike that with a free standing pole, the only problem is that it is securely mounted to a stage which brings you closer to the ceiling but that wont matter if you're not a huge climber. have a look at this link at the stages, there's a demo video too

    ^^^
i have seen that thread before and taken it into account.

i have seriously considered taking a picture into a local cabinet maker or carpenters business and asking them to custom make it for me. it may cost a little more but i reckon i could actually get it cheaper as i am in australia where they dont sell freestanding ones yet and once i convert US$ into AUS$ then pay $300+ for shipping the stupid stage would cost me over $1000. i'm sure a local business would do it for a few hundred provided you smiled sweetly and explained your "predicament".

There are removable poles that only need to match up with a stud in the ceiling. PM sassysummer... she runs a whole site on them.

    Lil Mynx.

Completely sturdy, completely removeable...no holes or anything.

    And compare them with sassysummer.

A friend has the stage pole. It sucks, is my personal opinion. If you are really wanting to work on doing pole moves, you don't have a whole lot of room to do it with. For that kind of money, you can get a better pole that you can work with the full height. If you can find a stud to put the pole in, when you move, all you do is spackle up the holes and touch-up paint the ceiling.

Whoa, after reading that post about PS, I think I'll just go ahead and deal with a pole that screws into the ceiling. I have another dumb question though - do they also screw into the floor? Or how are they connected?

    Thanks for all your replies

Thanks for linking my PS thread above, onlythebest!

Ambellina, the permament poles do bolt into the floor as well. Removable ones have a tension mount, so it doesn't bolt into the floor (some have a small bolt into the ceiling I think). I have a permament pole from PS and though I don't recommend it, here's what mine is like (I'm assuming other permanent ones are similar). There are four bolts that go into a stud in the ceiling and one into the floor. The bolts are huge (bigger than I'd expected). I live in an apartment and am a renter, but I decided I was willing to risk my security deposit to have a stable pole. When I move out I'll just spackle over the holes in the ceiling, or I heard you can even fill them in with toothpaste for a quick fix. The hole in the floor will be harder to hide, but luckly for me the hardwood floors in the room where I installed my pole are kinda messed up anyway, so personally I'm not too worried about it.

    Check out www.lilmynx.com
I've heard pretty much all good things about them.

I live in an apt and bought one from Sassysummer - I LOVE it....works great, can take it up and down with in minutes (like when the office calls and says that they're showing my apartment to potential renters for when I move.)

I think I'll probably end up going with lilmynx, they look really good. So the removeable ones, they aren't bolted into the floor at all?

Yeah, I guess it won't be that big of a deal to just cover up the holes in the ceiling. What are the chances someone's really going to notice blemishes on the ceiling, haha.

Sorry I'm being so tedious here, I'm just trying to get a firm grasp on what the different kinds do. Your post was very helpful Anna, thank you

    [EDIT]
Does sassysummer have a website I can look at?

^ that's sassysummers website, and you don't have to screw anything in at all. I've had grown men on mine and it's very sturdy.

*raises hand* I ahve a question - this one http://www.mypolecat.com/buyFDP.html seems like a fabulous deal, but just how crazy can you get on it? I think I'd feel a wee bit cautious knowing it wasn't bolted into anything . . .

that's the one that I have - and I get quite crazy on it...i haven't found anything that I can't do on it - although it can get slippery so you have to make sure that you wipe it down with rubbing alcohol - and remember to tighten the bolt after every half hour or so. When I first got it I didn't do it, and ran at it full speed one day and well...thank god I hadn't cleaned my room and there was a large pile of clothes on the floor for padding. Haven't had a problem since then.

^omg! girl...I told you to keep it TIGHT! lol

I do everything on it, go nuts. i keep mine super tight and honestly (sshhh, don't tell anyone, lol) I rarely tighten mine. But, like i said, i keep it super tight (like you can hear cracking in the ceiling), but it's my house, i can do what i want! lol

hey jillian, go here and get some samples of this product.. http://www.titegrip.com/ i'm thinking of becoming a reseller. I got my samples, but since i so stupidly hurt my palm rollerblading, I can't do anything pole related till the bruise goes away. I think it may help with the "slipperyness".

I do keep a rag with rubbing alchol on it (you can use windex too) near me..if it gets slippery (still not near as slippery as stainless), then i just do a quick wipe down, dries in seconds!

Also, if you did want to bolt it in, the manufacturer can but the hardware in there for that, then you can bolt it to the ceiling.

Sassy, how do your poles compare with brass poles? I hesitate to get a powder-coated pole because I don't want it chipping. I also prefer the grip I get on the brass poles. How is the grip on the powder-coated poles?

as long as you keep it wiped down the grip on powder coated (at least for me), is very good. I can't compare to brass, because I've only been on stainless and pc.

mine hasn't chipped, but i also am very careful about not wearing rings/braclets or shoes with buckles on the back or inside of the leg. That's the only way it'll chip. If it does chip, it's easy to fix with some fingernail polish.
