    Thumbs down Knees

    I hate my stupid knees.

Anyone ever have a problem stretching their knees?

    I could never.

Last week I did a little Yoga and the instructor told us to sit straight up with your legs open like a V shape on the mat. I couldn't do it. The only way I can do it is by leaning back with my arms on the floor, not sitting straight up normal. Another thing I noticed is that I can't run on a treadmill. That made my knees hurt. I try not to put so much restraint in them. I can only run outside.

    Any tips?

Maybe try a knee brace and more stretching? Maybe you have a deformity in your knees? It's possible. Good luck.

I don't understand what the problem is. Answer me this: when you sit on the floor sitting with your legs straight out in front of you and your back straight...what happens? Where do you feel pain/stretching/etc.?

Running is not good for your knees. Some people can do it...I never could. Speed walking using HIIT and alternating incline is the best way to burn calories, work up a sweat, and go easy on the knees.

But, I kind of need more info...and an idea of what goal you have in mind.

When I stretch them out straight which ever way. But mainly felt it more when I was sitting on the floor with my back straight up, legs open like a "V" shape. I feel the pain behind the knees when that back there gets stretched. I hate the trainers at my gym, they always blow me off when I need their help. Arrrgh. Cause i've been doing light lunges 3 times a week too.

CorsicaFire, that's what i'm thinking too. Deformed knees, lol. I hope not.

It just sounds like you aren't very flexible. When you sit up straight with your legs straight out, that is stretching your leg muscles, if you feel it pulling, that just means your muscles are stretching and you aren't flexible.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.

I have a slight deformity in my knees. I had to wear a brace on both legs at birth. Never fixed the problem, but I can deal.

Well my doc told me once that since I have flat feet(the worse kind to dance in btw), I have poor knee support bc of that.

He made me wear inserts for my shoes. Although I can't wear them with all my sexy shoes.

The muscles/tendons might be too tight. The only way to alleviate this is by stretching the legs every day (which you should do every day, anyways). Just sit on the floor and gently stretch. Every week get into the stretch a little deeper.

While you can't wear the inserts with your stripper shoes, you may want to consider wearing them with all of your other shoes. It's either fashion or your bodily health.

You should especially be stretching out those muscles if you are weight lifting. All weight lifting and no stretching will make your muscles very, very tight (no flexibility) and your chances of getting muscles injuries increase tenfold, even if you are doing normal, everyday activities.

You may also want to consider upping the Yoga and Pilates classes. And toning down on the weights for a week or two.
