    Default Question about self tanning...

...I know there are other threads about this, yet it took me way too long to not find the info I was looking for.

Does anyone have great advice for self-tanning on hands and feet? It seems to be hit and miss with me. I do use a thin layer of tanner and an extra dose of regular lotion on those areas. However, sometimes they turn out OK but usually it's sort of uneven

    Does anyone have advice?

I mix a little lotion and self tanner together in the palm of my hand and then apply on hands, feet, elbows, etc. I never have uneveness this way.

I applied by patting with a damp sea sponge. It came out just ok.

I use those spray can stuff, that way I can spray a light mist over the areas and it turns out fine.

I use a lighter spray on those areas too, but I still get mistakes sometimes.

I'm gonna try mixing w/ lotion for those areas.

    Thanks

I rub leftover tanner on my feet- a very light cover, but totally skip my hands and whole lower arm, actually. I scrub like a doctor when I'm done self-tanning. No one seems to notice because my lower arms have a bit of perma-tan anyways (always forget sunblock there).

Ok in my avatar pic. i have a bit of a tan (but it's Almay blush, lol) on my face and neck, but blended nice!

If i was to buy a light self tanner, will it still work if i use products that take dead skin off every two nights???? Can you buy a self tanner that puts colour on now? And start all over again tomorrow?

I have NO experience with tanners but disaster. I want a bit of colour because i have lightened up my lip colour and eyeliner. I just look a tad healthier...different this way. But it's blush i am using and that kinda sucks.

HELP! This is the picture with very very little make-up, because i SUCK at it.

and second pic. no blush for tan look and too much make-up imo....it's ugly!

    HELP!!!!

I put some regular body lotion on hands, knees, feet, elbows, and face, THEN put on the sunless tanner. If you have a couple days to build a tan, i suggest doing it fresth out of the shower so you'll get a lighter layer. hope this helps!

I apply the foam stuff that pumps out of a bottle and I wear latex gloves when putting the lotion on that way my hands don't turn orange because no matter how hard you wash them, scrub, etc. it never gets the orange off. After I apply the foam stuff everywhere, I then take the spray can stuff and spray it everywhere on me and it evens out any area that I might not have done so well with. And with the foam it's a bronzer so I can see where the dark is going immediately, that way I know what area I did and how I did it. I think a foam bronzer then spray can stuff is the only way to go. Try it, I don't think you'll have much if any mistakes!

Sorry to add another question here...

    I have very oily/sensitive skin.

Is there a self tanner that I could get that won't break me out on my back and chest?

try the web site: iamtan.com. It's a forum, w/prod. reviews.
I recently bought, but only used once: On the Glow, a daily moisturizer/self-tanner. It's that 'slow build up' tan thing, but I've only used once so far.

i just got the sublime bronze..lotion for body, towlettes for face...

I LOVE IT! it's the best one i've ever used.

The face/neck area has always been a bit tricky for me, but these towelettes made it super it..WAY easier than lotion, and there was no streaking.

The lotion is wonderful too. normally lotions tend to sink into my legs hair follicles and if you get close, make it look like i have dark dots all over my calves, but this stuff didn't. it looks great!

    no more translucent skin! yeah!

I'm another fan of the Neutrogena fine mist spray and the tanning foam with the bronzer (so you can see where it's going). The one with the bronzer is better for the "instant" tan so long as you arent planning on getting wet because the bronzer washes off. I've been using this in combination with this new lotion made by Vaseline called "Healthy Body Glow". It's a regular lotion but has a touch of self tanner in too and it's really helped to maintain the tan inbetween the mist spray which I only use after I've done a good dead skin removal with a loofa.

I've been self-taning for years, and have always had trouble with my hands and feet...until recently.

What I do is use Sublime lotion (or gelee) everywhere except for my wrists, ankles, hands and feet. When I'm done with that, I take either Jergens Glow or the Sublime Glow gradual tanner and use it on those areas. I take care to rub it between my toes and fingers, and blend really, really well. Then, when I'm done, I rub my palms and the undersides of my fingers on a wet washcloth, removing all the tanner from those spots. Finally, I take a cotton swab dipped in lotion (non-tanning) and go over my cuticles.

    Works for me !!!

i agree with the sublime bronze. ive never used any other self tanner before, except the jergens gradual stuff, which i didnt see too much of a difference. but what i find myself doing now, and i think works great is i take my shower and exfoliate like mad, and when i get out i put on the jergens stuff, let that dry, and then i put on the sublime bronze. i dont actually straight up apply the lotion to my skin, work it in my hands a little first and then put it on, and i only use the residual amount on my hands for my ankles and feet and stuff. ive never had any problems with orange palms. i just wash my hands right after and dry them really really good. i use the jergens every day, and the sublime bronze every few days. i dont look orange or anything, and i have super pale skin and i think it makes my skin look alot less pale (not completely tan, but i wasnt going for that too much anyway) it just makes me look really healthy. im gonna try tinamaries suggestion too though, that looks likes its a good regimen.

I make my own gradual tanner by mixing self tanner and regular lotion.
