    Default Peacock Burlesque Theme

For the competitions happening around Brisbane, I'm having a custom made peacock themed costume made. I was wondering what you all thought and needed ideas.

I want to wear green satin gloves (I'm wearing a green corset and will have a tail) and I also want giant peacock feathered fans for my show.

Where does one get peacock feathers in Australia?

Where does one get GREEN stripper shoes? Can I spraypaint them?

Can I dye white satin gloves green somehow?

Should I do my makeup demurely green or wild and outrageous glittery green and yellow with peacock feathers on my face?

What are good vintage classic pin-up songs (Marilyn Monroe, Big Bad VooDoo Daddy..etc.) to dance to? Anything with peacocks in it?

In the end I know I'll figure it all out... but I thought it best to get input.

^^That sounds HOT!!! But I think you will have to paint/dye all of your other stuff. Also, you can play that song "Big Spender" by Miss Peggy Lee. That's real cute.

Gold Coast Girl posted about trying to find Peacock feathers last year sometime so maybe try and find the thread. I don't know if she had any luck, I've only ever really found them at markets, animal sanctuaries or second hand stores (Got a huge bunch for $5 a while back!)

    You can spraypaint stripper shoes.

You might try Ebay. I saw a couple of the most awesome peacock feathered bra tops awhile back. Warning though they were very expensive , but they were oh my goodness gorgeous

As for your makeup, I would go with a complete glam look. I hope we get to see pictures

In Queen Street Mall...near Target funnily enough, .

Also, money is not a problem here as I intend for this peacock theme to bring in MUCH more than I spend ($~1000) on my costume and accessories. It'll be in competions, photoshoots and even at work.

I worked at Minx. It's bad money right now there. I've walked away with $4 before plus they take 49% in taxes! O_O; So I'd make $600 and come home with like $190 after payout and taxes . I've never been to badgirls (but I should so I can get used to their stage before the comp). Why not VC?

Hey! I was a peacock for Halloween a few years back. While not meant to be a stripper costume (by any means- I wore it to school!) I can still give you advice on how to go about putting everything together- believe me, I put some serious time into that sucker! I won best costume that year- I can even send you a pic if I can find some.
Things to consider: super long peacock feathers are sold at most art supply and craft stores. What I did was bought one of those foam rings at an art supply store (i think they're usually used to hold flowers or make wreaths out of) and stuck a TON of feathers into it so that they all fanned out like a showgirl's, with some super glue at their tips, then covered the entire ring in a pretty blue velvet (I don't know how technical you want to get, but the bodies of peacocks are blue). Then I created a kind of attachment out of plastic, covered it in the velvet, and attached the ring to it, then made a little snap-on remover thing that attached the plastic (now holding my ring with the giant fan of peacock feathers) onto my dress, also blue velvet. My dress I actually bought at a dancer supply store (I wasn't dancing at the time... maybe it was a sign...), it was a really pretty mini dress that almost looked like a (kind of slutty) cocktail dress- and I got the fabric to match it.
I also made a headdress with more peacock feathers- fashioned around the concept of a 1920's flapper's headband, and added a few more accessories, but I'm sure you've by now got the general idea.
I'm also relatively certain that since this is a stage performance, you'll probably be wearing a cool showgirl bikini or something instead of a dress- in which case I'd advice finding a way to attach the fan of feathers to a simple and discrete belt that you can just strap around your waist, because take it from me- it's a PAIN IN THE ASS to have those things attached to your costume full time- you'll want a way to detach them easily.
And one more thing: be prepared for the absolutely obnoxious know-it-all's who are going to try and tell you that peacocks are males and female "peabirds" don't look like that. I got that statement quite a bit when I did mine... *rolls eyes*
SUCH a cool idea- using it for a dancer performance- and I love love love the idea of implementing the showgirl into it. Good luck, and PM me if you have any more questions!

Sounds awesome! I hope you post pictures. The whole idea made me think of a make-up tutorial I saw recently on Lime Crime. Check it out:

Expense doesn't matter as long as I can get them. I plan on using this theme in Picture and People amagazine for promotional purposes. The more I invest, the more return I'll see! Mmmm, peacocks. XD

Xenia is one of my friends. I modelled for her in the states. .... and I have all the equiptment for that look. I'll pull off something similar.

This company ships to Australia; most of the dancers I know use this company and swear by it, for quality, reliability, and cost:

Also, check out this lady's peacock costume--she pulls up the skirt behind her head and makes a HUGE peacock tail:

I love the peacock motif--and I love it that it all comes off male birds!

Hey jo! Add me back on LJ! I'm morriganslayde! Can't reply to you!

Anyway: That's exactly what I want to do! Make the skirt flip up and turn all peacocky at the end of my set and shimmer and look glamourous.

And sweet, thanks for the links! You're perfect.

    Did it!

Yes, let me know if you're looking for sources for burlesque costume stuff and props. Usually I can point you to something, although some of it might be regional.

Well the costume itself is custom-made (I go over the designs tonight, yay!)...

But hmm... I DOOOO need to find those giant fans!! I can't imagine making my own! But I also want fans in other colors...

If I found something I liked could I pay you to buy it and send it to me?
