    Default Theme shows without featuring?

I love being a house dancer and consider myself to do pretty damn well, and I'm not in the position to travel all the time- I have to stay rooted in the area because of school, etc. However, ever since I started dancing I've really been wanting to do theme sets with costumes and music, the whole bit. I love performing and I've been in theatre for a long time, and I always get complimented on my stage performances even though I consider them borrrinnngg because they don't have a gimmick or anything novelty about them, at least by my standards. The only problem is that every club I've ever been to/worked at- NONE of the girls dress up in costumes or do this. It's pretty standard to just create a file and let the DJ pick your music out of your file for your next set, and just wear the same (standard two piece) thing all night.

Is there a way around this? Would it be incredibly awkward to attempt using costumes and ask the DJ to play theme music to match? If I were to change into a theme costume- would I wear it all night, or would it be better to change out of it? Would it seem like I'm trying too hard, or attempting to upstage the features that sometimes come in? I don't mind standing out- but there's a fine line between being a "cut above the rest" and just looking plain ridiculous.

I have no idea how to go about this! I've done private parties with costumes and stuff, but I would just love to do the same thing in a club. Any suggestions? And if anyone knows of a club in San Francisco (I've looked on the club reviews but found nothing) that encourages theme shows, let me know! Thanks!

I did theme sets at one of my clubs but not at another, I would think it depends on your club. I would just wear the themed outfit for my set and maybe a little afterwards if customers wanted dances right away. My DJ was really good too so that helped because he would hype it up and get all the customers curious so they'd be more interested in sitting at the stage. If you already have features at your club you might want to do it on nights when they don't come in if you're iffy about whether they'd get upset. You could even try doing it as a girl/girl show if you have a buddy and your club allows them. I think the key is to not take it too serious. If you look like you're trying to hard to be a diva feature then you'll come across a little pretentious instead of fun.
