I went to see a registered dietician last night because since the end of February I've been working with a personal trainer 2x a week and on the treadmill 5 days a week for 30 minutes and haven't seemed to be able to loose more that 2-3 pounds. I even went up in weight at one point. So, I got to thinking mybe my eating habits aren't as good as I think they are. We talk for an hour and half and she comes up with this formula.
1. Divide your weight (pounds) by 2.2 to obtain your weight in kilograms. For example 180 lbs divided by 2.2 = 81.8 kg (round up to 82)
2. Multiply your weight (in kg) by 30 to estimate your calorie needs to maintain your current weight. For example 82 kg x 30 = 2460 calories to maintain your current weight.
3. Subtract 500 calories from your maintenance calories to obtain the calories you need to loose weight. For example 2460 - 500 calories = 1960 calories (round up to 2000)
Then you use this chart, which is based on the food pyramid to calculate your daily needs
daily calories 1200 1500 1800 2000 2500 3000
grains (starches) 4 5 7 9 11 14
fruits & Vegies 4 4 5 5 7 8
dairy products 3 3 3 3 3 3
Bean/meat products 4 4 6 6 8 9
fats & sweets 2 4 4 5 6 8
Sorry if this comes out all cockeyed, I don't know how to do a table in this.
She also gave me color coded index cards and two envelopes that that cover all five groups with acceptable foods listed on each one along with portion size. Every item on each card is x number of calories. For example each item on my bean/meat products card equals 75 calories and I'm allowed 4 servings. Each time I have an item on one of my cards I take one card from one envelope and put it in the other envelope. At the end of the day I should have moved all my cards from my start envelope to my finished envelope.
I'm really hoping this works for me. I'm getting very discouraged which is making me very cranky and bitchy. I really thought that by now I'd be much closer to getting the body I want. I 'm trying to stay realalistic, I know I'll never have the body I had when I was in my 20s, that's just not possible. But what I do want, is to have a great body for someone my age. I want that "wow, she's hot for xyz years old" and for my clothes not just to fit me but to fit me very well.
Any other advise or suggestions are welcomed. And moral support is tops!
