Thread: Sore ankle..

    Default Sore ankle..

    Okay so im a little stupid lol... tonight when I was working I went to slide down the pole(well fall whatever) into the splitz but had my legs weird and landed with one leg under me and landed on my anke(does this make sense? lol) anyway its all bruised n swollen but I wont say its broken or twisted or anything just bloody sore! Its at the top of my ankle so when I wear boots they rub on it and it hurts, and when I wear shoes the ankle strap rubs on it and hurts. I can walk okay, just not flat footed so stripper shoes help(go figure)... I have to work tomorrow, I cant afford to be off work. So I was thinking in regular strapless shoes, but my ankles are so weak im scared I will fall out of them I havnt wore shoes in 4 months, im a boots only girl. Any ideas? I know this sounds all mumbled n weird but thats about how my thought process is now lol. Thanks girls..

    Only thing I can suggest is to get those strings that tie up your legs. I assume you know how to use them; so I'll spare you the directions. But the strings will keep your shoe from coming off.
    You could also try and wrap your ankles in an ace bandage and wear leggings over the bandages.

    Sorry Cally,

    As a wannabe athelete who screwed up his ankles - I feel for you.

    A few suggestions:
    It's very unlikely you broke anything - I've turned many ankles and broken a few - when they break - the swelling never goes down and the pain w/each step is excruciating.

    So - that means that all the damage which could be done already has been done to the ligaments.

    Right now, you have two issues:
    1) swelling - swelling is bad because if you don't get rid of it it causes scar tissue in the region and leads to permanent damage to blood circulation in the foot

    a) keep it moving - when you're not on your feet, roll your foot around to keep the blood flowing to the region
    b) keep it elevated as much as possible - having an injury to the foot is tough, because the blood naturally wants to settle there -
    c) ice ice baby - it hurts but helps alot


    2) balance - it took me a while to learn this, but your body/brain connection on balance went through a "shock" when you hit your ankle. You have to re-establish the sense of balance in your foot

    a) practice standing on one foot then the other - try to notice differences in your ability to maintain balance on the good and bad ankles
    b) now practice standing on each foot with your eyes closed - much of our balance comes from visual cues - closing your eyes rebuilds the connection between the muscles in the foot and our inner ear.
    c) practice on your shoes

    All that male advice aside - I'm really sorry for you. I hope you feel better.

    This happened to one of my girlfriends a few weeks ago, and she just wore a black ankle brace with her dance shoes. What was funny was that there was something sexy about wearing the brace (one of those pull-on ones).... I can't put my finger on it but it was sexy.

    Thanks guys.. I decided to take the day off just to let it rest. I've broken the same ankle twice already so I want to make sure I dont hurt anything. I know its not broken or sprained, just a nasty bruise with a little swelling. Let it rest today and go back to work tomorrow. And im damn well wearing my boots tomorrow! I HATE wearing shoes... bleh..
