    Lessons Learned from Mystic Tan!

Ok, so I went and got the Mystic Tan done today...just thought I'd add a couple of thoughts to the list of Mystic Tan threads on the site.

    1) Pay extra careful attention to how you put your hair cover on. I didn't, and now I've got a huge white stripe on the top of my forehead! D'oh! I'm trying to even it out with the face sunless tanner, though.

    2) For the love of Jeebus, DON'T cough or anything during application. I've had dry mouth ever since then, and it totally sucks!

I really like the way it turned out, though. My face is a bit dark, but I'll try to work that out next time I go. Very quick and easy- totally hassle free for all of us super pale people!

Another thing to add: Don't shower until the next day: I took a shower like 5 hours after and everything went down the drain.

Ahh the Mystic Tan...I loved the way it made me look for about three days, but after that, my face was pale again and the color around my navel started to peel off...and it was hard to get the inside of my calves to tan with the spray, even when I would stand with them facing the spray. I did everything the way I was supposed to and didn't get very good results.
Also, essential oils made the tan come right off. I had these weird pale spots on my pulse points. EWW.......that and I felt like I was in a GAS CHAMBER. It was hard to breathe for a while after I'd get out. The bitter taste of it on my lips made me gag.

I hardly felt it was worth $20 a week, so I stopped going and started layering on the Aveda self tanner instead!

I've only done Mystic once and it looked okay but my hands looked kind of orangy and I put that lotion on them pretty thick. Maybe I just needed more. Also it started to look flakey after a few days and I even used the extending lotion (or whatever they call it). I just am so pale I don't have the best luck with self tanners of any sort. I do okay with the gradual tan kind but even those I can't get too dark with. I just think us paler people don't do well with self tanners but if anyone finds a sure thing that works well let me know.

^ Mine looks fine...my face is too dark, though. When I do it again I think I'll put a moisturizer on first to keep it from getting so dark.

As for the "gas chamber" effect, I'll agree. It's a bad idea to try and breathe when you're in there- it'll leave a hella bad taste in your mouth (mine is still here hours later).

I've done the self-tanner stuff, but I always end up with streaks and spots. If I get the package, it'll work out to about $13 per spray...I think it'll be worth it to me to not look like a goober in the Texas summer for once.

Bunny: I put that stuff on super thick on my hands. It felt pretty gross, but my hands came out just fine.

I love being pale! Actually, I haven't gotten out in the sun in 2 years. I think I'm gonna try to get dark this summer. Thanks for the tips on the mystic tan stuff!

I airbrush tan at least once a week. Salons use much better product than what is in Mystic tan booths, and it costs the same. The solution clings to dead skin cells, which is why you should shave and exfoliate before having it done.

It shouldn't last very long on your face, I have to use a bronzing powder after a couple days.

Using lotion will stop that alligatory look on your skin, and extend the life of your tan.

Oh, and don't sweat until you have had a shower, or you will turn yellow. It's easiest to do on your day off, then you don't rub off on customers, ruin your clothes, or end up with white rubbed off spots

Madison: I don't think we have any places that airbrush around here. Mystic Tan is still fairly new (it's a pretty small area). I'm just glad that I don't have to mess with all those self-tanners. Bleh...

Neutrogena makes a good aerosol self tanner that isn't orange and sprays at any angle. You can get it at Wal Mart for about $10 a can.

I've tried the sprays...heck, I've tried everything. I always come out so streaky, though! :/

Gave me nice color but only lasted for two applications.
