Default Why we are obese and late for work (and why gas costs $3 a gallon)

A little rant in pictures if you will...

I took these this morning on the way to the grocery store. Pay special attention to the church van I've highlighted.

The second picture here was taken on the way back. I'd say about ten minutes had elaped.

Do people even realize anymore that they CAN actually go into the store and get their artery clogging grease and crappy coffee to go? Do they perhaps realize that with a caravan in the drive through lane, it might actually save them time AND gasoline to do it that way?

But noooo, even on a cold rainy ass morning with gas prices at near record levels, people would rather sit in their cars and breathe exhaust fumes than take a short 50 foot walk into the store and back out again. Maybe they're afraid they'll get ran over or something.

And with that, I'll shut up now.

I rarely mess with drive-through--it's almost always much quicker to just park and go inside. But hey, D-C, are you trying to mess with one of the greatest perks of life in the USA? LOL...

I despise drive thru servise and avoid it at all cost. If it were up to me I would skip fast food all together, but damn if it isnt convienient at times.

You know what..I think the same thing. My friends are always like, "why do you want to go inside to order" I'm always like, "well dur, there's no one in there!" I'd rather walk in, place an order and be out in 3-4min than wait in drivetru 5min to order, have them mess it up, get to the "first" window to pay, then go to the "second" window to pick up my order.

HA, I don't drive myself, so drive-thru's not an option!

But when I'm with my dad we'll roll up on Tim Horton's and he opts for the drive-thru

When you consider the fact that he doesn't even have to get out of the car, because I'm the one making the walk in, it speaks of sheer idiocy! Sheesh...

Besides, occasionally (and I do mean occasionally) you'll get a cutie behind the counter. Chatting her up in person beats talking to a box any day!!

Usually I walk in , but if I am in a strange town I will use the drive thru . Now get the shot of the driver chomping down a big mac while talking on the phone lol ..

im like blade, i avoid it. its just unnatural to me. ofcorse, i refuse to eat fast food, so that helps. the only drive throughs i ever have the opportunity to use would be dunkin donuts(rarely) or the bank, but i always go inside. me and homeslice had this conversation in a tim hortons, making fun of everyone that was waiting in line(about 12 cars) for the drive through(stationed by one person) while we did the 15 foot walk inside and had 3 or 4 people waiting to help us. if we wanted to, we couldve walked in, ordered, slugged it down AND hit the road before we couldve even got our food if we took the drive through approach. so its not just americans that are lazy and stupid :-p

i like my car, but damn, its nice to get out of it and walk around. besides, im a spur of the moment food orderer. i need to have it in my face to make a decision, not a brick wall.

btw, doc, excellent photo documentary post.

i don't go to fast food much..and not to "defend" them, but how do you know they didn't have a bunch of kids in there?

I can tell you as a mom of 3, I would MUCH rather sit in a drive through than take them all inside. "MOOOMM, I want to PLAAAYYYY" , NO, "BUT MOOOOOMMMMMMM, PLEEEAASSEEE, I NEVER GET TO PLAAAYYYY", NO! (insert crying kids here). "Kaylie, come here! LEAVE her alone!, Don't touch that!" etc, etc, etc,... you get the point! lol

BUT, it would be dumb for someone without kids or some sort of disability to not go in there and just sit there in the d.t.

^, yup, that's me..the yelling mom! haha. it's funny, cause you know how you see those kids that just scream and yell cause they they think they'll get their way. before kids i used to think " oh god, my kids will never do that! I can't believe those parents just give in to them". well after kids i've learned, that they'll do that even if you don't give in! haha I thought mine would figure that out by now, when they do crap like that, it just pisses me off more and then i start taking stuff away...sigh. when will they learn lol

if I had animals with me, I'd go through the drive through...and sometimes it's only the drive through that's open at night.

I eschew fast food, but sometimes on car trips, it's a necessity.

    True.

I don't want to imply that I'm picking on the church van, its just that its the easiest to recognize vehicle in both pictures. I could just have easily pointed out the white SUV behind it. But if you do notice, there is a burgundy colored car in the first picture two cars behind it, and in the second pic its gone. Maybe someone broke down and wised up (or went to Burger King instead).

And there's nothing wrong with using the drive-thru per se folks. Most Wendy's I've been to run an incredibly efficient one. But the point of a drive-thru is supposed to be convienence, and it chaps me how people will see a line like such at the drive thru, have some clue that its NOT going to be convienent to use it, and add themselves to the melee anyways.

It's kind of like when we want to change the channel on our TV's but we can't find the remote, and we'll tear our living rooms upside down to find that remote before considering going up to the TV and changing the channel there. Even the people who make TV's have exasperated our laziness by making the on-set controls limited in use and hard to see.

OK, I'm a foodie. And my boyfriend figured out that when he took me for a ride in his sport's car and got Taco Bell I'm verrry affectionate in the car! We decide on our order and it's like foreplay, then we drive to a pretty park and eat. Then I drive him crazy while no one's looking. What's weird is we lived to gether so we could go home...but what fun would that be? So you see, I have an excuse for this behavior.

Doc, just wondering if there was parking available in the McD's lot. When I was back in California and eating fast food every day for lunch I would almost always use the drive-thru, but that was only because it was the lunch rush and there would never be any open spaces. But if there were parking spaces then I would absolutely go in to get my order to go.

LOL...that is totally me, except I have one child.

It's so annoying to go into anyplace and be trying to just "run in and out" (is that possible after children?) and you end up getting into a crying match with the kid.

We don't do fast food...but the only times we absolutely need to, we usually go to the drive-thru...not only because of the above scenario, but also because Makayla might be sleeping, crabby, or attitudal...and getting her out of the car would be more trouble than it's worth. The past few times I've hit Wendy's for their water and Orange cups...I've hit the drive thru and was gone in record time.

But, doc, you're right...too many people are willing to wait five minutes for the VERY FIRST parking space in the row instead of parking three spaces down (all the while honking their horn and gesturing in Italian). But, you know...they're in a hurry. LOL

I've always walked into the restaurant in the past, unless I finished a swing-shift (which, Thank God, I don't work anymore). After swing, there is no choice but the drive-through, as Emily already stated in this thread.
