Default Tax Consultant in Portland, OR?? Recommendations??

    hello all
i just started dancing in the hopes of raising the money i need to open a clothing store so i need to be very legit in keeping track of my money and paying taxes. Are there any dancers in portland that have a recommendation on a tax consultant? none of the girls at my club pay taxes on their money so theyre no help. also how much does a consultant normally charge?
    thanks!

It's actually pretty easy to do yourself; just start keeping track of all of your income and expenses and save your receipts. However, if you want, any CPA should be able to help you out. Sorry I can't help you but I do mine myself.

you're definitely going to want to talk with an attorney about setting up an LLC or Corporation if you're going to be operating a 'brick and mortar' business like a clothing store. Without the legal protections of an LLC or Corporation, if someone were to walk into your store, break their ankle, and sue you, they could potentially go after your house, your car, your investments and retirement fund etc.

Thus if you're pretty sure that the clothing store is going to happen in the future it would help things a great deal to form the LLC now to cover your dancing activities. This could also serve as a major tax shelter in regard to the amount of taxes you'll have to pay on money earned from dancing which is being directly invested in the clothing store. We're potentially talking many thousands of dollars per year in 'sheltered' income tax savings, so don't scrimp on the Attorney and CPA.

If you've just started dancing, then feel free to ask other dancers who seem on top of their shit if they have consultants. B/c of tax time the topic's come up recently, and a couple girls I know have mentioned talking w/ their FCs... they are, of course, the girls who really keep up with their deductions and are good at saving up for cars and school. A personal recommendation from one of them would probalby be great.
