Default how to not heat damage your hair?

So, I've finally gotten my hair to a point where it is long and healthy and has a cut that I don't hate...but I want it to have finished, "polished" look, which usually means curling the ends (my hair has a slight wave, but the end don't naturally curl) so, I've been brainstorming ways to get that nice look without the use of a hot curling iron...which is what damaged my hair in the past. So far I thought of:

blowing it dry on a cool setting with heat-protecting spray while winding it around a vent brush (would that work without the hot air?)

hot rollers (heard they are better for hair)

just spraying a light gel through it and putting it up in a bun all day so it has some natural volume

I've done rag curls, but it's a very specific look, extremely wavy in a pin-up girl way.

Any of you beauty goddesses have any hair wisdom to share?

velco rollers will add volume (if you use the big rollers) and a slight end curl (if you use the small ones)...put them in on dry hair, and you'll get the desired results without using heat

Try wet setting with velcro rollers. In my expierience, nothing happens with dry hair and rollers without heat.

Have you tried using a thermal protectant before heat styling?

Even though you are talking about curling your hair, i thought i would throw this out there. I have curly hair and i used to use a hair straightner all of the time; my hair was in the worst condition from that (friend ends, split ends, everything). So i changed over to using my iron and after using it for about 6 years, my hair has never been healthier. No bad ends or anything, its amazing! My hair dressers even tell me i have such healthy hair now, i love it.
