    Default death of dancing

Has anyone found that this industry seems to be over?
There is just no money to be made anymnore. Plus its ridiculous how bad the clubs treat girls that fire yoy for no reason and fine you. dOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY SIMILAR EXPEREIENCES. i am going to give it up and staret waitressing in a club i hear that in some of the vip clubs u can earn 2 or 300 a night. Anythings got to ber better then the endless insecurities dancing brings. Maybe then ill meet a nice guy who will respect me too.

hi sassygirl, sorry you feel this way. this industry will be around for a very, very long time but it will forever change and mould as our society does. this is a very quiet time of year (in australia) these next few months if that is why you're down but it always picks back up in the warmer weather. If you are having a bad run with management, maybe try a different club first to see if it's the club or you. i did the same thing three years ago.

i was getting stale and started hating my club so i decided to change clubs. After three months i realised that it wasn't the club but me that couldn't take it anymore, so i quit. Went back to a normal job, earned my AUS$40k salary. but three years later i finally have my head around it all and can return to dancing wiser and better than i was the first time around.

and never worry about the 'meeting a guy who respects you' part
that happens whent he time is right whether you are a dancer or not. a guy that respects you more when you're not dancing isn't a guy that respects you at all. there is someone who will love you for WHO YOU ARE. maybe just not right now, be patient.
    good luck on your decisions

I've heard about how one thing or another is the "end of the industry" every year for about the past 25 years. I'm not saying this to dismiss your question, but to give you hope--the end is not near.

I had to comment on this.
I used to dance, but no longer do. I recently visited my home town and stopped by a couple of the local clubs.
I'd like to point out a few observations.

    1. Most of the women were sitting along the mirrored wall sipping drinks.
    2. A TON of girls were bitching in the dressing room about how there was no money.
    3. There wasnt any real hustling going on.
    4. There were A LOT of overweight dancers.

Listen, I''m not downplaying the fact that the money might be slow right now.
It seemed like men wanted to spend money but honestly it was the strangest thing, NONE OF THE GIRLS were working the floor!??
I dont know..maybe you need a couple of days off to recharge!!? (or hell, maybe it really is shitty)
    Good luck!

Yes, the business is changing, but I wouldn't say it is dying. It just really got saturated with women willing to take off their clothes in public. Also, just about every high school girl knows how to give a lap dance from watching music videos, so it is not exactly something that is "special" in the clubs any more.

Why would a brand new dancer want to start in this business today? Because it is popular and chic in today's culture. Instead of Lap dance prices going up over the years, they are dropping because there are more dancers than customers in many markets. Even in some of the most tame markets, customers are expecting more sexual activity in the clubs (and frequently getting it).

Let's just keep watching where the business is going. Burlesque, which is a form of strip tease, is really starting to take off in many areas. And, no, Burlesque dancers don't make much money, but they do get paid by the clubs to come to work.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

I don't think the end of strip clubs is near at all. There will always be a demand for that kind of entertainment- bachelor parties, guys night out, single guys looking for a fun time, etc. So there will always be a demand for strip clubs. The strip club environment is just changing. Guys are starting to want more for their money than before, and more girls are willing to give them more for their money than before, which in turn, increases the demand of the customers for more for their money. I've only been dancing for a little over a year and a half, but I can already see the difference from when I started. Money seems to be tighter for the customers, and they aren't as willing to spend money unless they are getting more for it, which has decreased my income since I'm not willing to do more for the money.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.

The industry is ever changing and for every high there is an opposing low. The first time I took stage was in 1990. Between then and say 93, I realized it goes in a wave kind of, like a rollercoaster. 99 to 2000, still doing that rollercoaster. I dont think that part of it will ever change. But no matter how it changes, or slows down then speeds back up, dancing will always exist I believe.

In the club where I work, it is to a dancer's advantage to be overweight. I'm thin and in shape but not skinny. A custy asked me if I had spinal problems because "he could see my spine when I bent over". WTF? I have also been passed up for dancers that have rolls over the side of their booty shorts

Sort of off topic, but dancing is just changing and evolving the way everything else does. They shy, cute girl act doesn't work in my current club. Agressive hustling seems to be the thing that works.

( It could also be me. I've been there for two years. The first one was great. My money hasn't gone down, I have been making it almost by luck. Custys don't come to my stage in numbers like the used to )

guys will always want to see naked girls. i think it depends on the economy. if the economy is good and people have more money theyll want to spend it, and if the economy is crappy then people wont want to spend money. (good thing i took economics) it works the same way with alot of different industries. theres even a skirt hem theory. if skirt hems are higher the economy is better, skirt hems lower, crappy economy.

I have been feeling the same way. I think the clubs are going down because there is no respect in this business anymore. I think in a way it started from some of the younger crowd that dont know anything about this business. Too much drama between the dancers and the managers are walking around with attitudes and taking it out on the dancers and then the customers are getting in the middle of this b...s...

I don't know about the industry being over but out here as far as tabledancing goes the market is saturated, too much competition has not been good for anyone, the standards and attendances have dropped all round, bad for customers, bad for clubs, bad for dancers. One venue opened a chain of 3 clubs but rather than attracting more customers and dancers they ended up spreading around their current ones, all 3 clubs are now floundering. A bit of competition is good but it's just got ridiculous here, 10 years ago we had 2-3 clubs that would get busy and most of us made money, now we've got more than tripple that but no more customers to fill them.

A LOT of cities seem to have overbuilt strip clubs. It was such good business for a while that everybody wanted in on it. Now they've exceeded their customer base many places, but there are more girls than ever willing to give the business a shot, so clubs make their money off house fees instead of customers.

How do we explain less customers in strip clubs everywhere if interest in this business isn't waning? Granted there are more girls willing to dance now than 8-10 years ago, but there are less customers in clubs now than 8-10 years ago.

And, guys are less interested in buying dances now than 8-10 years ago, right?

Videos and songs portray stripping right and left nowadays, and make clubs seem to be the place to be for the hip hop crowd. Could it be that the hip hop portrayal of strip clubs being the place to be are making some older white men feel that they have outgrown strip clubs?

This business has lost A LOT of it's money spending clientele.

I think we need to survey as many customers as we can every night in order to find out if customers are going to clubs as much as they did in the past, and if not why not. Then we all need to post the results here so we can get an idea of why our money spending customer base is eroding.

I think the problem is that now a days, you can go a regular night club and get freaked on. The only payment : admission into the nightclub. Buy a girl a few drinks and she's yours for the taking. Also, at night clubs, you have girls walking around in the club acting like they are strippers.

I also agree that there in alot of areas, there is alot of strip clubs. To many of a good thing really is bad for business. Supply/Demand theory.

Alos, I feel like alot of men could just as easliy go online and fulfill their fantasies than go to a strip club and spend a few hundred dollars. Alot of younger guys come into the strip club, find a girl similar to him in age and do not understand why she would not want to talk to him outside of the club. Alot of young guys who come into our club come specifically to pick up women. They dont even come with money in their pockets..

I think there will always be a demand for good strippers, guys will pay money to see beautiful girls who put on a good show, they want to be entertained and being able to chat with the performers is a bonus, when they get to know the staff it makes them feel like they belong, but if they are not treated well and have to put up with bad attitudes and wade through a sea of new talent to find their favorite girls (or at least ones who are part of the same school who conditioned him in the first place) then where is the incentive? It stops being a good night out and starts being more like he's a mug out at any other bar full of people he doesn't know who just want his money. Customers don't feel special anymore.
I don't think it helps that women now dress and act much more risque than they used to, god some of the stuff I've seen girls wear out look a lot like what I used to wear when I first started!

    The problems are many:

    1. Clubs have become the hangout for the guys who call themselves pimps and players. They usually dont spend money and most dont have money.

    2. Clubs need to have rules about if youre not tipping youre not sitting at the tiprail.

    3. The younger crowd is annoying the older crowd. Now Im 24 but I see many of my contemporaries in bad light these days.

    4. Today many conventional nightclubs have female customers that wear very little and show sometimes as much as we do on stage. Why tip us and not score when you dont have to tip and maybe take home a drunk ho from a reg club.

    5. Stripping has become an in cool thing to do. So were flooded with dancers who maybe wouldnt have done this years ago.

    6. management at most clubs suck.

    7. Chain clubs!

Treasures in Houston is thriving - the place is usually packed. I go there a lot during the lunch hour and find many beautiful women willing to give extras which on many occasions I have enjoyed intensely. Other times I am in the mood for a beer and 2 -3 dances. Many times the conversation as soon as we get to the very dark lap dance area starts about how much will I want to spend for certain extras. It can get embarassing saying "Miss I am just here for a coupla lap dances this afternoon?" The clubs where the gals are not willing to give good extras ITC or hookup OTC are suffering for business.

The girls themselves are partly to blame for the influx of young player/pimp wannabes, because they request the same dumbass top 40 songs that those kids listen to.. it's like listening to the latest "NOW" album every single night.. so we get suburban nimrods making gang signs and dancing in the aisles like they own the place. They are annoying - and perhaps even intimidating - to the older customers and/or the young ones just trying to tip and have a good time.

Young, cookie-cutter music draws, and keeps, a young, cookie-cutter crowd.
