    Default my own website

I want to create a website so that my customers can visit and know when I am available. I want it to be simple with pictures and a calendar that may be updated with my schedule, clubs, blog and fees. Any advice on who to go through? I dont want to pay alot and I want it to be simple, but something I can control myself and play with (as far as the way it looks). Please help it seems there are many options and i am not really sure what best fits those specific needs I mentioned above. Any ideas are appreciated, especially from those of you who have used your recommendations. Thanks-Brandi

are you wanting to build your own website and are just looking for cheap domain registration/hosting? or do you want to use something like geocities or tripod which has a very simple custom page editor?

i use godaddy - - for my domain name and hosting. it's really cheap, and although their customer service isn't great, i've never had any problems with the basic stuff.

i've got no idea about sites with custom page editors though, if that's what you were looking for

I agree with Darcy; GoDaddy is awesome and cheap. They host my sites. All I did was just learn enough to make my site. I use blogger for my blog and publish it to my url. It's not hard at all. I betcha Darcy could design one for you that would meet your needs.

I use Yahoo hosting...the only problem is that once you register your domain name with them and want to switch hosting companies, it takes 90 days to use another hosting plan other than Yahoo (if you want to keep the same domain name). I don't know why, but when I tried to host two separate sites at once, there was a bunch of weirdness.

It's really cheap though - and they give you a built-in web design program. Extremely basic, but it might get you through life until you learn html or get someone who does to make your site look better.

godaddy.com is one of the best for domain registry...for domain hosting, I would seriously google that phrase and search. For me, I have a friend of mine who owns a hosting site, so I get it for free...if you want ideas of what to do for your dancer website, check mine out at www.christydancer.com You don't need it to be EXACTLY like that, but to get ideas from it...also, if you need help with the HTML design, I've been doing web design for a decade now, and would be glad to help you out.

we have a site from yahoo, and it's really easy to play around with it with the yahoo sitebuilder. it's about 20 bucks a month i think, but the sitebuilder program is free and you can use it with any website i think?

If you want to go cheap just start something on www.blogger.com. There is tons of free ways to do it. It all depends on how professional you want it to look

check out Lunar Pages, they have low cost hosting and they allow Adult content. That is a factor you need to ask if there will be and nudity on your site

I use myspace - www.goldcoastgirl.info - so the public, customers and clients can keep up2date with me. I have my domain name just forward them to the myspace profile. I don't really want to have adult images on the site (just attractive ones) so its policy about no nudity doesn't really bother me (besides, I just censor the image to conform to the TOS).

i've always found that the best way to learn to use those programs is to teach yourself using trial and error method. i learned to use photoshop, flash & dreamweaver all by spending a lot of time playing around with different things and remembering what each of them did.

if you don't want to spend the time doing that, just google "dreamweaver tutorials" or "flash tutorials" or whatever, there's heaps of good ones around

Yep, I totally agree. Someone gave me both Dreamweaver 4 and Photoshop 7 (bootleg) and I taught myself how to use them. Dreamweaver is pretty user-friendly and you can do a lot with it for building almost any type of html or Java based website.
Learning Photoshop was similar, but a little more complex. I bought a book just to learn how to do a few more things with it. Online tutorials are helpful too. Just take a photo from somewhere in your hard drive and play around with it, using various features and filters.
