    Default curling hair

its so sad. ive never curled my own hair before. im great at curling other peoples hair, but for some stupid reason i cant do my own!! i have hair thats down to the small of my back, and i dont really have thick hair, theres just alot of it. (im a blond and they say blonds have the most amount of individual hairs, and the darker hair gets the less individual hairs there are) i tried curling it with curlers last night. just roll in velcro ones that you leave on. ill admit that i was a little messed up when i did it, but it was alot harder than i think it shouldve been. anybody have any ideas to help me out? i like the length, but maybe a new haircut is in order?

Velcro rollers are meant to add volume and, if wet seal, a touch of curl at the very ends...but it won't curl the length of your hair. Try spnge rollers, pin curls, or a good, small barrel ceramic curling iron.

I have long thin hair as well. After I decided that hot barrel curling irons were just too damaging for my weak ends, I tried metal rollers w/velcro coating (is this what you used?). They give MUCH more volume than the curling iron ever did, and the effect is sooooo much prettier.

Make sure your hair is not too damp - and use ALOT of rollers. I prefer the medium sized ones, they come 4-5 in a package, and never use any less than 20. Start from the crown, brushing out horizontal sections of hair ( 1"x .24"). Take your roller and place it under the selection of hair, right up close to your scalp. Use the velcro roller to "brush" your hair to within 3/4" of the end, and then start rolling it back up towards your scalp: this untangles the selection of hair and makes it lay more smoothly when you roll it.

I make sure that the top layers are the thinnest sections and roll them up TIGHT to my part so I look like a 50's house wife with rollers on top of my head. This will give you some major lift (the smaller the hair section, the more heat it is exposed to, the tighter the curl, and the more likely it will actually curl and STAY)!! Gradually increase the size of the hair chunks as you work further down towards your neck. Once all your hair is secured in this fashion, blast the curlers with a hair dryer on high for a while. Make sure you get each individual curler. Then when you think they're done blast them on cool to help them set. I try to heat set them for no less than 3-5 mins (for the whole head, not each!), and then leave the rollers in for a little while longer as I putter around the house impatiently.

Gingerly unroll them, making sure to work from bottom to top and keep loose hair from getting caught in the roller you are handling (or you will have a big-ass tangle). Once all rollers are out, rake your fingers through your hair till it sits the way you like, and then hit it with some hair spray! Male sure to get the bottom where the curls are tightest, the will fall out otherwise.

    Good luck!

    i did it!
i used up 35 curlers. and i had big sections of hair rolled in, cause i actually ran out of curlers. i used velcro curlers. and the kit i got came with a bunch of different size ones. i used smaller ones toward the top and used the (unfortunately) bigger ones on the top. it took forever and a day to do, and then i slept with them in cause i was mad tired. i took them out the next morning. the ones on top (smaller curlers) came out great, but the ones on the bottom (big ones) came out like loose waves. not what i really expected. but i just used a curling iron and redid the loose ones.

it came out SOOO GOOD!!! (tgs anyone?) ive never been happier with my hair. i went to work like that and i got so many compliments. id say all the curls held up about the same. considering half my head was velcro curlers and half was curling iron. the velcro rollers gave me a lot softer look though. it was so hard to reach up and get all my hair. i had my arms completely outstretched! it took FOREVER to do, but i think the results were worth it.

thanks alot for your help! i wish i had pictures. but im sure ill be doing it again soon.

i got a 31 pack of velcro rollers from cvs for $14, and i kept the curlers in with bobby pins. if you have long hair youll need them, just pin one on each side of the curler up against your head.

i wanted to try pin curls! how many little curlies did you end up having to do?

A ton. I didn't count but at least thirty, and I did bigger chunks of hair in the back/underneath. Next time I'm going to use something bigger than my finger to make the curls, too...
