Default Getting motivated to go into work

I'm fine once I get to work, but it's hard to go in regularly.

I have fun at work, but before I'm there I have a hard time not thinking about all the other things I could be doing.

How do you motivate yourself to go to work?

Thanks for responding! I really need to go to work a lot more, and any tips on this would be greatly appriciated!

I put myself on the club schedule so that I will get in trouble if I don't show. I could only schedule 1 day and then have the option of coming in other days or not, but then I wouldn't show up regularly. Also, choose something to save up for that you really want. When you have saved a certain amount of $$ or when you show up for work so many times, you get the thing. Good Luck!

Why are you not motivated? I really don't understand this about so many dancers. I'm not trying to be mean, but don't you have to make a living? Dancing is a job just like working in an office or being a salesperson.

Why do people work? To pay bills and accumulate money, to have financial security.I assume you have rent to pay, utilities, internet access, cell phone bill, credit card bills, car payment, insurance, and need spending money plus need savings so that when the car needs work, or you have other needs there is money available.

To me, EVERY dancer should be working 5-6 days a week if full time and 3 days if a student, should earn $4000-$9000 a month if full time (depending on the club), and part time 3 day a week dancers should make $2000-$3500 a month.

They should be saving 25%-30% of their earning every night and easily have several thousand dollars put away so that if they decided to for example take the Dancer Wealth course, wouldn't have to work extra to afford it.

Dancing is a job, and it is not supposed to be a party. Making money is a necessity in life.

If a dancer has a hard time going to work she should really assess how motivated for financial security and a comfortable life she is.

Granted some clubs and some cities are hard to sell dances in and in some clubs it is hard to make $100. And in many clubs the money isn't consistent because the amount of dancers often outweighs the customers.

I would set a schedule of Monday-Friday from happy hour until closing, and work this like a traditional job. Put 30% of what you make in a money bag each night for savings, and program your mind for financial security as opposed to hanging with friends and only working when you need something. Take a 1-2 week vacation every 3 months. Stick to the schedule and make sure you have something to show from dancing.

^^Yeah, Tina is the bomb. I actually decided to give dancing a shot one more time after I read one of her threads. She made me question: Why should I quit at 23 with all this confidence? Thanks, Tina!!

i find i have a hard time going into work no matter what i do. work is work. but i thought it over, id much rather have to deal with guys that want to see me naked and give me lots of money than deal with the customers at davids bridal. oy vei! consultants there work on commision, and only want to sell sell sell, which is totally cool cause if you think about it, you do the same for dancing. but at least if a customer gets snippy or mean with me at the club i can get mean and snippy back and not have to worry about it affecting my job status. cause if i told off customers like i wanted to at davids, boy! oh boy!, i wouldve been fired a long time ago!

    rant ended

if money isn't motivation, I don't know what is!

Of all the things I'm supposed to do....go to the gym, floss, walk the dogs, cleaning the house....I find this the easiest because it results in $$$!!!

Even if it's just $200, think of how happy you'd be if you had a $200 windfall. $200 is a lot of money, but what if it was $800. How mad would you be if you missed a big money night?

Emily is a good role model for all of us to model. She has discipline, and a new home and car to show for it.

As much as I'd like to take credit for it, Tina has always had an awesome attitude from the day I first met her. She's just one sharp cookie.

    Tina,

Thanks, your post was awesome! It's exactly what I need to get motivated. I know all these things, but to have it all put together is so helpful. I've printed it out and taped it up to my bathroom mirror, so everytime I need that little extra push out the door, it's like your there to say " this is why you have to, and need to, go to work"!

I'm also going to review my DW home study course this Saturday (once exams are over), so that should help tons as well.

Emily, you're totally right! Money is motivation, and when I think about it that way, I want to go to work. My roommate gave me a huge reality check yesterday. I had a pretty bad night compared to what I usually make b/c it was amature night and they make all the girls come in. When I complained about how "little" I made, she told me how she worked from noon to 10:00, busting her but doing invantory (sp?) for 10$ an hour at the bookstore she works at. She said, "Stop bitching. You worked less then 1/2 the time I did, and still made about 20$ more then me" She def. made me realize how lucky to have my bad nights still be better then any other job.

Jenna, My club doesn't schedule, but a girl I work with always tells our management at tip out "I'll see you ___whatever-day-she-plans-to-work____" So then she feels somewhat more accountable. I'm going to do this as well, it's a good idea.
I also treat myself to something special at 2000$ incriments. So whenever I have 2000 more in my sayings account, I go to the spa for the day and take a friend. We both get to have a great time, and I get to start planning the next treat, like going to tea at the Ritz, a weekend at a B&B, seeing a play or a concert. It doesen't really matter how much it is, just that it's special.

Thanks to everyone who repplied, I am now thoroughy motivated!

I think that having written financial goals helps a lot, like a weekly goal, monthly and yearly etc. its like a game with yourself to try and achieve them. Another thing that is fun is to take some dance classes and learn some new moves that you won't be able to wait to try in the club! Sales seminars ,like the dancer wealth course will give you new motivation too and give you skills to practice at work....

Ok this is gonna sound so neurotic, but does anyone else ever feel unable to work because their confidence becomes completely shot? Like, I take a week off for exams, and the combination of study chocolate and not dancing, I can gain like four pounds, and then I won't go into work until I'm back to status quo. I think "oh no, they'll all think I'm getting fat, my stomach's too puffy to work...I can't work like this". And I know that's messed up, seeing as I started dancing heavier than I currently am but...or if I have a bit of a breakout, or an especially terrible hair day...It's a ridiculous excuse, and usually I can get my ass to work 5-6 days a week when I'm outta school, but then I have these weird lapses. I also know it would be an answer to not binge and get fat to begin with, which I am working on. Is there a way to psyche yourself back into feeling sexy when you don't? This is the only job that I've ever had that I find myself unable to do because I feel ugly.

Oh man, I didn't go into work for two weeks (due to classes) and went in for the first time last night... I grossed $65 on an 8-hour shift! Normally I'd expect anywhere from $150-300 from a 6 hour shift. I think they could smell the desperation... I was just using every hustle I could and they were all just FAILING. That's what happens when one's confidence is shot, though... I try all the tricks in the book.

Going back to work tonight. But now I've learned my lesson and will have a great attitude, no worries about money, and just let my hustle flow!

Ew, I hate that. I just put my self on auto mode... at least until I get to work. Then I stay because I drove the whole way there.

I have days like that too Molly. If I can force myself out the door then all it takes is one or two custys to say how "you're the most beautiful girl here" or something like it. Then I
re-realize (I think I made up a new word!) how absolutely forgiving club lights are and how sexy I can be even on my bad days. Guys will love you even with an extra couple of pounds.

Just put on a smile and fake it.

To actually look slimmer wear your tallest heels, thigh highs (make sure their not super tight, otherwise you may get that yucky bulge on your inner thighs), a dark dress that shows off your back or shows cleavege (when you gain a few these areas are still gonna look great.

You can also do a little bit of body conturing with a spray on color (I use the sally hansen airbrush legs) in a slightly darker shade. Spray and BLEND on your inner and outer thighs as well as the sides of your stomach. This helps you to look narrower, but not really flatter. If you really want to you can spray on abs (yup it actually works). I spray on cleavege (just spray the hollow between your breasts and the under parts (like the line where underwire is in your bra) I do my boobs every night. It really works! You can do this to go out as well, it looks very natural as longs as you blend it in.

As a side not, Kiera Knightly had her breasts "done" for pirates. She's really an a cup. You can do this as well, though it's better to have the effects be subtle.

Default Re: Getting motivated to go into work

Sometimes you won't feel good. I get bloated or feel tired lots of times, and some nights the club is soooo slow or the customers aren't biting and I have to deal with it for 8 hours.

In my scenario, I work bookings, so I have to work the entire week. I just go through my normal motions and talk to the customers. Some nights there are rednecks in the club that are degrading to me, and guys who walk away from my stage yet tip the white girls, which gets me very angry, but usually there are a few good guys in the mix who will buy from me, and while I don't make as much in tips as some of the white girls, I make up for it in dances.

If you stick to a set schedule you will stress out less about how you "think" you look. This business provides too much flexibility, and every dancer does not have the motivation to go to work when they are not required to. And this causes a lot of financial problems for dancers who cannot adhere to a schedule.

At the end of my week I measure how much money I have in my savings bag after bills, over what I had the week before. When I take too much time off of work, I have to use the money in my bag for spending money and bills and that makes me discouraged.

We have to stay focused on accumulating our savings and not spending everything we make.

Anomar, we all have $65 nights. It's not always from desperation, but the business just isn't there. I work entire weeks where I might have one night under $100 and the rest of them in the $130-$220 range (plus I get club pay).

The problem is, when we don't have a set schedule, and just work sporadically, pressure is put on us to perform exceptionally well, and we have no control over conditions in the club that may or may not allow us to do well. Too many dancers come in to work in clubs with no schedules after a long hiatus saying " I need to make $500 tonight, my car payment is due." There may not be the clientele to support those kind of earnings and the girl cannot meet her bills. That is why it is so important to adhere to a set schedule which will mesh well with school and allow enough earnings for bills and savings even if it is somewhat slow in the clubs.

I need money to accomplish my goals too, but by being in the club more, I can even with slow nights make my bills and save some money. And you will get some good nights if you are at work enough, that will help balance out the slow ones. And the more you are at work the better your chance in many clubs to become known and develop a regular customer base. Being known in the club can help a lot as far as increasing your income.

When I feel tired or am running late, I just put on my makeup, do my hair, put on my lashes, and when I get to work, throw on a robe for my first set. Once I get going, I gradually get in the groove.

Tina, you are a great motivator. I did get my ass in tonight, and what do you know, no one but me can tell when I'm over my usual weight by 2 or 3 pounds. I tanned a little more, wore a flattering outfit, and no difference. And as soon as I'm actually working, I don't have time to obsess over myself, so it works out.

I agree that there is too much f-ing flexibility. I love being able to make my own schedule, but man does it take discipline. I schedule myself earlier so I can work a longer shift, but so often I just want to go home after my minimum time. Lately I've been better staying to close...my entire work life up to this has been usual full time hours (when not in school), so there's no reason I can't work a 7 hour shift. Especially when I can take as many breaks as I want.

I agree money is the best way...I give myself a set amount that I want to save each month now, instead of a percentage of my earnings, because it forces me to go to work and make it. And not be lazy and go home. I guess I'm learning not to take slow nights so personally...not to get so easily discouraged, and self-conscious, and just keep to it.

I learn so much from you ladies! I really don't think I'd do half as well without this stripperweb wisdom and support.

It's hard to be motivated to go to work when we're not on schedule (I'm in Las Vegas)

I do work at least thurs-saturday but I would love to be motivated to work at least 2 more days out of the week
