I say buy whatever works for your type of skin, whether it's cheap or expensive. I heard that some ppl break out with MAC's foundation/powder. Haven't tried it myself though.

That could be true. I've has cheap eyeshadows that I had to sandpaper off at night and cheap ones that didn't last an hour.
Foundations and powders are touch and go, just use whatever works for you. But for any other makeup, you just can't go wrong with MAC.

The only time I use MAC foundations/powder is during photoshoot. I tried using that crap at work and my face did start to break out. The minute I stopped my skin turned back to normal.Originally Posted by Vyanka

Some Douchebag: "[Pimp C] 12:43 am: its true we got to stick together the black people on SW CK you is teh condoleeza of SW"
I use Revlon foundation sometimes, but found that Wet 'N Wild doesn't have a bad one either.
i don't know..
I think more expensive makeup has more to offer as far as colors, tints. etc.
Cheap makeup can sometimes be plain.
I think that more expensive eyeshadows have more pigment, so they're darker without having to layer a lot on. I like to use more expensive foundations because they seem to last longer on my skin without fading. I have more oily skin, which makes makeup fade off of me in spots quickly. More expensive foundations seem to last longer and control oil better than cheaper ones I've tried.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.
I have tons of MAC make-up...I also have just about every available color of the Milani shadows...including the new "loose powder" shadows they came out with.
MAC is better in the sense that using a small amount of Pigments/Shadows really can pack a punch, but I need to layer more colors with Milani. While I like the Milani colors and they have some "close" colors with MAC, you get more oomph with less product with MAC.
MAC foundation made me break-out...but, then again, EVERY foundation made me break out. I don't wear foundation for that reason alone.
But, you have to remember...MAC make-up is made to be used HARD. It's made to be under bright/hot lights and still have color and not run when you sweat. Milani is not comparable in that way.
So, yes, there is a difference in quality. But, for every day use when you are not going to be putting the "stress test" on make-up...they are comparable.
i think SOME expensive products are worth it..
MACs eye shadows blend WAAAY better then most i've tried. they also seem to last alot longer and not crease.
For foundation i use "Bare Minerals" which i just found and love.. its a little expensive ($60 for foundation, coverup, bronzer, loose powder and 3 brushes) before that i just used Tinted Moisturizer by covergirl..which was ok but got really greasy especially here in hot as hell AZ! im a makeup freak though..i love dramatic eyes and neutral everything else.

I use the CG powder too, good coverage and no problems. And I have problem skin. And when I go out I use Revlon's colorstay foundation, no problems with it either. I also use Philosophy's mineral foundation, looks good but doesn't stay matte on me for a while & I think that's making me break out. I'm still looking around for something that's way better then what i'm using(foundation wise), so I can stick with one brand. I'm gonna try Clinique's makeup line next. I have so much shit.Originally Posted by cinammonkisses

MAC foundation clogged my pores but I love their eye shadow. For foundation I use MaxFactor Pan Sticks, have for years and will continue to do so.

VG, what is that eyeshadow you're wearing in your avatar? I want it!
I've found that cheap eye makeup can be pretty harsh. For example, I really do like the Prestige eyeshadows (Longs Drugs) Nice colors and inexpensive. They're just not soft like MAC and other elite brands. Especially the glittery type shadows. When I apply them it feels like I'm sanding my eyelid off. That can't be good for averting future wrinkles...
I really liked Revlon's old eye shadow. Now they mostly have that 12hr stuff and it's rough on my eyes. But loreal and cover girl (and other drugstore brands) can be good for day-to-day use. Sometimes, when I have big plans, I like to use MAC and Chanel. It's more of to splurge than out of necessity.
Although I have to say, I HATE chanel's mascaras. After like 2 weeks, they clump ALOT (yes, I close them tightly!) Doesn't seem worth the $40 or whatever I spend on it. (And the packaging is crappy.....the gold C on the mascara peels off after coming in and out of my makeup bag.....it looks really cheap and shoddy. And yes, they're real...they've been purchased from Marshall Fields)
So for mascara, I always stick to MaxFactor now. Overall, I don't mind drug-store brands. They've always been fine for me.

Wet and Wild mascara, pencils, and lipstick, Ruby Kisses lipstick, Brucci polish, True Colors loose mica shadows....all cheap and all GOOOOD.![]()

I haven't been making enough money lately to afford the expensive stuff. LOL I usually use Maybelline or Cover Girl makeup, and I only splurge on the more expensive brands once in a great while. A lot of people rave about MAC makeup, but there's no MAC stores near me, so I would have to order it online.

I use "whatever works".
For some reason I've found the real bottom of the barrel grocery store eyeshadows are great (CG, maybelline etc.) They go on smoothly and last a long time. Why this is, I don't know. I have Prestige and Physician's Formula (a few notches up price-wise from the cheapest lines) and they're not nearly as good, IMO, as the "crappy" brand eyeshadows, which do everything I want them to, so why bother to go for the expensive dept store versions?
The BEST foundation I've ever used was a sample from a Sears counter, which lost its label. It went on thick, hid everything, and yet looked totally natural, and actually helped reduce my acne. Does anyone know what this might be? Now I can't find it anywhere, and everything else I try (cheap or expensive) makes me break out, except for the ones with no coverage -- so I've given up wearing foundation for the moment and just wear concealer.
Prestige is my favorite eyeliner for drama, Jane is my favorite for looking natural.
The Revlon mascara that comes with the primer is my favorite masc.
I'll wear just about any lipstick that I like the color of and don't hate the smell.

I used to sell the high end stuff, $40-$150 foundations... In my artistry kit, I have a variety of stuff, from Maybelyne to Chanel. Some of the drug store stuff is great, but so is some department store stuff.
I LOVE MAC's eyeshadows. The pigments are vibrant, true to color, and LAST!
I used to be into mineral makeup, but now I'm falling in love with Loreal's True Match liquid foundations. I just can't find anything that looks good on darker skin tones in the mineral makeup. True Match has a bazillion shades and buildable coverage so it's perfect for my kit and at $7.50 a bottle I can own every color.
Maybelline Great Lash mascara.... Ahhhh, oldie but goodie, not to mention dirt cheap!
Laura Mercier's Secret Camoflage covers anything from a zit to a small tattoo. For personal use, it lasts about a year so $40 ain't too bad.
Ummmm...I don't remember, LOL.Originally Posted by CorsicaFire
I think it might be MAC Lovely Lily on the lid and Violet as a liner (used with Mixing Medium).
I think I had another post in here about the colors used...let me see if I can find it.
*edited to add: It's MAC Pink Pearl on the lid, MAC Lovely Lily lightly in the crease, and MAC Violet (with Mixing Medium) as the liner.*

I love MAC,but it's just too expensive, especially for work.We go through make up so fast,it will end up being costly.I use L'Oreal, which is very high quality and does an excellent job.Lip gloss sometimes I get from a cheap maker, like NYC,or at Sally's beauty supply.
i like everything that nyc sells. i havent had any problems. except with nail polish. it chipped like mad the first day i wore it. i dont really wear any foundation, but i like covergirl.
i can only dream of a circus life....

i'm only a makeup snob when it comes to eyeshadow (MAC and clinique are my favorites) and powder compact (clinique, all the way!)
for me, MAC shadow stays on all night. That's priceless haha!

I know the brand from Sears was called "circle of beauty". I came across some foundation at a burkes outlet a few months back, which is like a MArshalls/Ross dress for less.Originally Posted by thechaosfairy

I'm pretty weird, and used to be really snobby, about make-up. A couple of years ago, I would only wear the best of the best. Yet, I found, when comparing my Chanel eyeliner to my Rimmel one, rimmel was the best.
I was also really into YSL make-up. Beyond expensive and really hard to find. Only about 3 places in all of Canada sell it! Their black tubed mascara is the best that you will ever try! Even when I'm broke, I'll spend the $40/tube, just because its the best! Try it.
With foundation, I used to only use Chanel, which I loved. But when I got poorer, I switched to Maybelline Mouse foundation. Brilliant! Works perfectly for work.
MAC. Hhhhmmm. I know alot of ladies here swear by it. I don't so much. Although, I have a ton of their products, I find the eyeshadow to be mediorce at best. YSL is once again the best, looks like your skin is the colour you put on it.
I also really used to like Lancome products. Their eyeshadows are good as well, but their liquid liner is okay, but I found that Loreal makes a eyeliner exactly like Lancome and costs half the price!
Lipsticks.... Almay make really good ones that last forever. Their lipglosses are also really good! Cheaper, but not too sticky and last a long time.
The only problem I have is with bronzers. I've tried quite a few and never really satisfied. I have pretty fair skin and blonde hair. Any suggestions? I was thinking of splurging and getting the infamous Guirlain one for blondes. What do you ladies think?
i love rimmel its the best cheap brand. clinque is my fave pricy brand. I don't like wet n' wild at all i find there stuff to harsh.
