Girl, I have hurt myself so much that I was entirely black and blue all through my thighs and my legs. I think it comes with the position. What helped me is stretching, yoga, and good epsom salt or sea salt soaks. Dancing is an exercise and you have to warm up, so maybe a couple of stretches beforehand as well.

    Hope you feel better!!

    See a physiotherapist,
then try Pilates - it will help you recover and stay strong.

Lol - yes try a Chiropractor. I go regularly anyway cos I'm always throwing something out just from dancing. When I decided to really try and learn some "good" pole tricks last year I went for mr regular check up and they were like "WTF have you been doing, why are your shoulders out?" they didn't even feel out to me, so I was quite impressed. :-D

I have done that before too..... Ouch..... I had to stay off of it for like three weeks and then start doing the harder tricks more slowly after the three weeks. For now focus on floor work and dancing on stage. Don't strain because if you push when you think it is feeling better you will be right back where you started from. Yoga before work to stretch and relax, but don't push the yoga either. Advil before sleep. If you take advil before work, remember that it will feel fine but you might push it when the muscle isn't fully recovered...

    I hope you feel better!

Treat pole work like any other vigorous excercize. Warm up at least ten minutes beforehand, and spend at least ten minutes cooling down afterwards. Cold muscles do not have as much stretch in them and it's easy to tear them doing moves that you would be able to do if you were warmed up.
It's hard to tell from your description if your muscle is just tired (delayed onset muscle soreness) or actually damaged, but if the pain isn't the same on both sides of your body, that's a good clue you've hurt yourself. Rest that part of your body for at least a week. Yoga is good, as is massage. In the future, be smart and avoid injury. Your body is your money-maker. Treat it right.
