    Default Dumb questions about iPods

It seems like everyone already has an iPod these days or is getting one soon. I am thinking about getting one for myself, but I don't know much about them. I know that you transfer music from iTunes to your iPod. Do you have to pay to do this, or is it free?

Also, are there any other advantages to iPods besides putting music on them? I heard you can play games on some of them-is there anything else? I'm really clueless when it comes to these things. Thanks in advance.

To transfer songs you just plug it into your USB port... and no it doesnt cost anything.

ipods are great... I love mine and will never part with it. I have a lot of my sets for work on it so I just take it to the DJ and say what set I want, saves from cd's.

Depending on the type you get you can get ones that play movies and games and all that fun stuff. You can store pictures on them and they hold a lot of music. They are very handy little things.

I have the new iPod Video 30GB. It's awesome.

You only pay if you buy songs from the iTunes music store.

The Video has games, pictures, and video/music video capabilities.

WARNING Ipods are like crack... Ive got porno, skateboard movies 1000+ naked photos of myself and like 1000 songs and it still isnt filled up yet...

If you have a friend that has one then you will learn WILL EASY....

I highly reccomend the 30gb and that you install iTUNES with the CD and just enter the serial number to register the CD instead of the website... Some people like the site but I prefer the CD.

Also too be sure to get a car charger... So you dont get iPod withdrawls... Also too videos sometimes take A LONG time to rip and put on your iPod and you cant fast forward through them to fast or it will go back to the start and you have to wait all over again.

If you already have a bunch of MP3's somewhere on your comp, in your MyMusic folder or something, all you have to do when you plug in an IPod is just drag and drop them over to your ITunes library. And it only costs money if you buy a song, like was mentioned. I ripped my entire work HD into Itunes, there's tunes for days. My son has the little tiny 1g Nano...but hey he's 11. It was gift from his Grandma.

I had about 300+ cds before i got my ipod. And sold all my cds, which then paid for my ipod. You can import your cds to your itunes, which is free. And my computer automatically downloads any music i download onto my itunes. I love my ipod, its an older one too, ive had it for a couple of years, i think i need an upgrade, but nothings wrong with it.

I also have it hooked it up to my new cd player. And for games, mines older and just has solitare and a thing where it plays one of your songs and you have to guess the name, multiple choice. Thats fun if your bored, lol.

    Well they definatly don't swim.

But what the advantages depend on what you're looking for. Do you have your eyes on any one in particular?

I have the 60g iPod video and have too much free space, so get the 30g instead. But if you are picky about the songs you plan to download maybe the Nano is right for you. I also suggest you keep your CD's for backup purposes and if you download songs burn them as well.

you go to www.isohunt.com they can give you free downloads for just about anything you need. music, movies, tv shows you miss when youre at work, and its all FREE!!!!!! you cant get a better price! you can get whole album downloads too which totally rocks, instead of just single songs. i really suggest having a dsl or cable connection just cause itll all download faster. but if you dont have a fast connection you can upload songs too from cds and such. my sister has an ipod and she has dial-up and it sucks major cojones! as to how long it takes to get the music from your computer to your ipod it depends on how good your compy is.

Definately one of the coolest gadgets around!

Easy to use too! My sister got one of the little cheapies for Christmas last year (I forget the brand). What a piece of junk compared to the iPod!!

I LOVE my iPod!! It is the coolest item for people who enjoy music in very large amounts. I have the 30g iPod Photo, and have pics of my friends and family and items I'm trying to sell on ebay, and vacation photos and random party pics w/ friends and from work.

The only real complaint I have is the earbuds that come with it don't fit me correctly, so I had to buy a set of headphones to go with my iPod. iTunes is super simple to use, from transferring songs from disc to your iPod, to buying music to burning CD's. (Ditto w/ iPhoto, yes, I love my Mac!!)

I take my iPod to work to instead of cd's. Some of the DJ's I've worked with really had very little music that I enjoyed listening/dancing to, so I created a playlist just for them, they can view it on their own verison of iTunes by plugging in with a USB cable. BUT, the dj's can't steal my music from my iPod, like they can from a CD. Nothing worse than me shopping for weeks or months to try and find a particular CD that has been out of print since 1999, finally locating it (usually overseas) buying it, using it at work, and two weeks later 6 other dancers at my club have a burned copy of my CD.

I've never looked into other mp3 players, but it seems like the other brands have similar memory and functions.

You can shop for an iPod here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/
to compare what you needs are to the functions of this machine.

Another cool thing about iTunes and MP3s in general is that you can customize your settings so that not only can you rip MP3s from your CDs, you can create CDs that will play on regular CD players from your MP3s. iTunes has a very good user interface and it's not difficult to learn. I download most of my music (legally) and create CDs to play in my car.

Don't have an I-pod, but just got one of those new Sony-Ericsson Cell-walkmans. Of course, much less storage than an I-pod.
