Wow. Talk about diving into the deep end! (This is longish, but I just wanted to get the gist of the night out there.)
After a few months of preparing (which were prefaced by many more months of just contemplating it), including workouts, skin care, S Factor routines, field trips (easily my favorite part - and my boyfriend's), biography readings, outfit procuring, and of course obsessive research on StripperWeb . . . I finally took the plunge last night. I realized that any more time that went by was going to start looking more like stalling than preparing.
As beaten as I felt at the end of the night (oy, the bruises on the knees and hips), I felt so exhilarated, relived, and proud. It was a Monday, granted, but I actually made out fine financially. The 'audition' really just felt like a formality - basically, they took my pulse and hired me. There were only four dancers scheduled that night, one of whom ended up being sick, and another never showed at all, so they put me right into the rotation. Since I didn't have to go first, I felt much more at ease by the time I went up there for the audition, even though there were only three guys in the club at the time. I walked off stage and kind of gave the dancer coming up next a nervous smile and a how'd-I-do, and she said I looked great except that she totally didn't believe it was my first time (a theme that would recur throughout the evening).
So we do a few sets, I try to cope with a very drunken lad with only a credit card who couldn't grasp the "Cat Cash" exchange concept, yet seemed to want a dance, and another dude who definitely wanted a dance ($20) for what he had left ($10). Even though I was having some fun during my stage sets, and I knew it was still very early, after an hour of this I was starting to think "Jeez, if this is it, the thrill of scraping up a few bucks onstage is going to wear thin REAL quickly." THEN . . . one of the two other gals working had to leave at midnight. So it was just the two of us, and the length of our rotation increases to 4 songs apiece.
Can you guess what happens next? Yup, it totally picked up. The rail was almost full. I did a private dance, then got approached (YAY) for a VIP - which at our club is a minimum of $150 for 15 minutes (you can charge more, and I will from now on), then many many stage sets where I accumulated quite a pile of cash, and finished up with two more private dances (done as a double with the other dancer, side by side with two guys, and they switched after the first song).
:::falls to floor:::
So, yup. I'd say it was a success! . I know a lot of it was luck and timing, so I can't expect to always walk away with that much on a Monday, but hey! There's so much more I could ramble on about (what an education it was), but I'll close for now.
THANK YOU ALL here for all your input - both active threads and archived ones have proven so invaluable to me. I'm sure I'll have more questions over the next few weeks/months, so bear with me . . . but it's official now!
Gratefully yours,
~Rose~
