    Default Marriage License

I know this is a kind of random question but you guys have always been so helpful for everything, maybe someone can help me out with this question. My fiance and I both live in Florida, however we are getting married in New Jersey. Can we get a marriage license in florida and bring it to New Jersey or do we have to apply in New Jersey? I know several of you are married and am really hoping someone could help me out with this.

I tried calling the clerks office and cannot figure out how to get an actual person on the phone...

You have to apply for the license in the state (and in many cases, county or city) that you're getting married in. Some states have stricter rules than others, which is why so many people run out to Nevada to get hitched.

They usually have the rules/regs/reqs online, so be sure to really check it out (Doc's link above).

You need to find out for sure...the fees, costs, some states require a blood test. Some states require both parties to apply in person...and then some states require a 3-7 day waiting period.

If the link above does not have that information, if you know anyone in the area you are wanting to get married in, ask them to run down to the courthouse. They should be able to get a wealth of info there.

Oh, also...in Illinois, you have to go to the COUNTY Courthouse of the county you want to get married in. So, make sure you check on that, as well.
