    Who goes to the SPA??

I've never been to the spa, but lately I've been feeling the need to treat myself. I was just talking to an ex of mine (after readin the "stripping is making me old thread") about how since I've been dancing my skin is looking horrible. It doesn't have that youthful, healthy glow that it once had. And now I'm getting the occasional blemish which really pisses me off.

When you go to the spa, what do you get done??

    Facials
    Massages
    Body Exfoliation
    haircut

I was thinking about getting a microdermabrasion facial and a massage. Any suggestions??

I've read some horror stories about getting microdermabrasias done at the spa! Customers with red sore spots on their face. And that it's best to have it done in a dermatologist's office.

But the rest sounds good to me. Enjoy your day at the spa.

Oh.. I've gotten facials to clean out the pores. That's about it. I'm gonna have my eye lashes waved and tinted soon.

Facials are a life saver. Yea if you ever get microdermabrasion make sure they are clean and certified to do it. Last time I was at one I got a body wrap. You can never go wrong with a massage though.

I like going to the beauty schools for pampering. The best one I've been to was an Aveda beauty school where I got an extraction facial for around 25-30, I can't remember. But if you were going to get a massage, I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest a hot stone therapy massage. It is the BEST, and I've gotten a couple other types of massages, and the hot stone massage blew them all away.
What's also fun is a spa pedicure because they massage your calves too.

    have fun.

You know, I used to go to the Asha Salon Spa that used to be down the street from me. And, I would get an hour massage, a pedicure, manicure, a haircut, and a make-up application done (the make-up app would be free at this point, LOL).

But, then I read an article about how MOST salons lack in the "stringency" of disinfecting/cleaning their stuff...and how if you get a pedicure done (the big problem) that you can get some flesh eating bacteria that will get into the little hair folicles if you shave your legs in a time frame of "up to 3 days before and 3 days after".

I just couldn't bring myself to go back for pedicures and manicures after that.

But, I will say one thing. Before you put your feet in that foot spa...make them pull the filter out (it's in the tub area and it looks like a basket). If it's black, you should scream, bitch slap the person who's chair it is and threaten a law suit. It's that black gunk (think the bacteria from every person who's ever had a pedi done) that you can catch some nasty stuff from.

Ok...so now that I've rained on your parade. I think you should get a facial (not a microdermabrasion, though) a manicure, a pedicure (if the trap is clean) and a massage. If you are concerned about your skin, you may want to skip the massage and do a full body wrap (*sigh* heavenly). If you feel like you need a haircut, then get that, too. Make sure you ask them for their package specials. Sometimes they don't advertise them, but ask anyways.

well, that's a nice thing about beauty schools-- I've actually noticed them doing things I didn't see at regular salons because they were teaching the students all the health stuff too. Like, for example, each customer had a new nail file and it would be thrown out (or given to them) after the visit. Don't know about the foot spa thing though, but it's a good thing to ask.

What exactly does a wrap do? I heard it's supposed to make you thinner. I've only had massages but I like those a lot. And what is weird is I have discovered I like massages better with a male massage therapist versus a female even though at first I only wanted to go to a female.

Well, wraps can just make your skin feel better. I had a seaweed wrap one time...and it just brought back the glow to my skin. My skin felt awesome after that.

I had a seaweed wrap once. It wasn't what I expected. I thought they'd wrap me in leaves of seaweed, but it was a green paste and then they wrapped me in foil like a gyro. Then she massaged my head. My skin did feel good. There are other wraps where it sucks the water out and you appear thinner for awhile. My friend swears by them but they seem like a waste to me. would rather be rubbed down. I'm not doing wraps anymore

Massages rock. I'll pay for a good massage.

^ There is one seaweed wrap where they do the brush exfoliation, the seaweed wrap and then it's a full massage of oils/lotions into the skin when you're done. That's the one I had...but I cannot seem to find it anywhere anymore...

I don't go for the "thinning" wraps. They are a waste of money. Instead of paying out the nose to "look" thinner for a day or two, just exercise and drink more water. heh

If your musles are tired, I'll recomment oil massage.
I had recieved whole body oil massage, it was real good for my pity calf from wearing stiletto. thinking to recieve it more frequently.

If you think your face look tired or want to lift up a bit, try head massage like
"Indiand Head Massage" or "Cream Spa"(Indonasian head massage?)
both are awesome. they claim that if you have healthy scalp your face look good. (because they're all connecetd)

I do suggest you to have someone pick you up from the spa. your body will be extreamly relaxed. I was told not to drive or drink alcohol (and caffeine drink).
I usually just go home and stay in bed till next morning.

Spas are wonderful!!!! I only do massages and the steam room, though. I've only gotten a facial once or twice. But I don't do the pedi and mani thing anymore. I save money doing it myself and they usually aren't using clean tools. I was JUST thinking about setting up an appointment. Guess I gotta do it...

I want a massage so bad right now! My friend did this mud bath thing when he was in CA and he really liked it. He just sat in this hot tub of mud for a while and said it was really relaxing.

Hah, I think every female that I've ever talked to has suggested me going to the spa. I went to a local one here to have hands checked out. After my accident I had the hardest time using my hands. So I went to one off the cuff because my hands intermitantly go knumb/have hardness in the wrists/forarms and it's not carpal tunnel syndrome.

I figured at first it was the circulation since a REALLY awesome massage fixed my one hand permanently. Been trying the massage places around here for the other ones.

no..not the ME SO HAPPY ENDING NIGHTIME SPA AND SALON.
