    Makeup

I'm really interested in becoming a dancer, but I have alittle problem.....I don't wear makeup I never had..I don't look bad without it. I just think I look really bad with it on...and it doesnt help that I suck at applying it!...So do I have to wear it when dancing...becuase every dancer in every club I've gone to wears alot of makeup

Any Tips would be really helpful about how to wear the littlest amount possible if I have to wear it.

    Please help

Some bigger department stores (like Younkers, Marshallfields,Von Maur) that have a make-up department and 'sales reps' who can do your make up for you or answer questions regarding make-up. Keep in mind that they are also trying to do their job and sell their products. I never wore make-up before and figured that this was a place for me to start. I told her the look I wanted ( light make-up look, or dramatic) and she did her best.. If it helps.. I looked for a woman that was working in one of these make-up departments who's make-up I liked and asked her to show me some of the products that would suit me. I asked her if she accepted tips. I was being polite eventhough she turned it down. I ended up buying a few Clinique items that I felt would be worth the money. It really helped me get an idea on how much make-up I wanted to put on and what colors worked for me. The make-up is on the more expensive side, good quality. If you dont use much it lasts a very long time. There are also books at Boarders on how to apply makeup, and how to accentuate features. Hope this helps.

see the body business forum, there are tons of threads on what, how, which, ect!

Mac does a free consult, picking out everything you need! pay close attention, tell them you need a dark, sexy makeup style, andd ask them to narrarate and tell you how to do everything. Its easy once you get the hang of it. Buy everything they tell you you'll need, and spend a couple of hours (or however long it takes) in front of the mirror doing it yourself. You might even ask the mac consultant to do one half of your face so you can do the other. Makeup remover is your friend! take it off to fix it, that's way easier then covering up a mistake! also, go durring slow times, so the consult can really help you. If you don't like what they have done, say so, but make it clear you want more then a free makeover! (I recomend mac b/c it's great makeup, stays on, is dark, has tons of products/colors)

    Good Luck! You'll be fine!

I don't know, I know a few dancers who don't wear a stitch of makeup and do pretty well for themselves. Of course, they all look 18 and younger, so they're most likely attracting the i'm-a-pedo-but-i-cant-admit-it crowd. It's up to you!!

I wish I could go without makeup- at least without all the layers of foundation and concealer to cover all my scars... If you can get away with it, I say go for it. A lot of guys seem to like the all-natural look. Or maybe just wear a little eyeliner and mascara to make your eyes stand out, or a little blush to keep you from looking washed out. But if you like how you look without makeup on and don't really need it, then don't wear it.

^^^ Yeah I suppose it would depend on the club- but in my club there are a couple girls who wear no makeup, or just very natural makeup ( a little eyeliner, mascara, and lipgloss) and they do great. It seems like the younger guys want more of a porn-star looking girl, with full makeup, and the older guys like the more natural girls- not sure if it's like this in other clubs.

i agree with what everyone says, MAC makeup is great, mostly eyeshadows, never used their foundation. simplest thing you can do is line the inner rims of your eyes with black (i suggest ) then a few coats of . Im not sure of your skintone, so I cant reccomend any specific eye shadow, im pretty pale, and i use a red/pink palette, but it all depends on your skintone. Whatever you do though, dont let them do your make up at sephora. Great products, crappy make up artists.

hi , i'm brand spanking new, but,, i have a fair amount of experience with makeup, ( i do a lot of makeup for film students in my school, and also i am a photo student and do a lot of makeup for my models) and i would also suggest going to a book store and checking out books by a professional makeup artsit named Kevin Aucion, ( i think thats how you spell it) he has a couple books out one called "making faces" and i forget the name of the other ones,, but it shows many different looks and gives instructions on how to apply it. they are pretty easy to follow and he shows you some pretty amazing and easy tricks.

you should also check out the MAC website because i think they also have some instructions on how to apply some of their stuff and info about products

    anyway good luck.

You could do somethng a whole lot better with your money than spend $200 on MAC makeup When you actually start making some money, then yea it will be ok to splurge. But right about now, it will better for you to invest in regular old makeup. There is a similar thread n Body Business. Alot of products you can buy at Walgreens work just as well as MAC, Chanel, or Yves. It's all on the person.

yeah you can probably get away with spending maybe 50 bucks at a decent drugstore and get basics,,, concealer, powder, eyelinger eyeshadow, mascara, lipstick and blush if you feel lucky. loreal or maybeline or whatever works just fine, i have a few mac eyeshadows,, but all the other stuff is mostly maybeline...

^^^ Depends. No girls at my club wear bodymakeup. I had a bruise from a bug bite and I applied some dermablend to it. It covered it beautifully. But honestly, with the blacklights no one is going to notice those minor marks and blemishes

When I first started wearing makeup, I went to MAC. MAC is awesome. Their lines are wonderful and their staff is highly sklled and well trained. For $30, you can have a half hour consultation on anything regarding makeup (like focusing on concealer, eyes, lips or trying to establish a specific "look").

One thing that made a huge difference for me? Investing in quality makeup brushes. At first, I thought it was just a way to increase their sells, but I have noticed a huge difference in application. Now, I swear by them.

Makeup can be quite a big project so start small and then build on what you learn. I just recently have been focusing on false eyelashes. I never thought I would get the hang of them. Now, I couldn't imagine a shift without them. You will get better with time and practice, trust me.

MAC also offers training classes throughout the year. You should check those out too.

agree with you all on the mac makeup... absolutely my fav.. especially mac fix powder, and the sheer pressed.. i alternate using them on certain days when im working or going out....yeah girl you might wanna get some stuff at the drugstore before you invest in high quality products..... i think its very important to look very well put together when your in the entertainment business, espeically in this industry when its very hard to see sometimes under the lights.... i know i wear a little more when im working, rather then if im going out.... i guarantee you won't really have to change much if you're going somewhere other than work...

Kitty, i always wondered about that,,,did you use drugstore brushes before like the one's you buy at C.V.S? One time i went into M.A.C and they told me that it would be better to just buy a cheaper brush(but this was when i first started and was new to the whole glam thing,,,, my mom was with me so maybe they did not want to seem too pushy or something.) I also am going to use false eyes lashes in two weeks for the first time for a show, do you have any easy recommendations...i want the real glam long dark pam anderson eye lash look...

    Silky,

When I first started wearing makeup, I just got the basic brushes (brushes for eyeshadow and blush). Then as I learned and got more comfortable with wearing makeup, I invested in more brushes (foundation, powder, eyeline, eye pencil and different sized brushes for applying shadows for different parts of the eye). I swear the brushes make a big difference and make applying makeup fun. It's like a coloring book for your face.

As for flase eyelashes, I started off with putting on only partials. I wear Mac's number 7's but I cut them in half and only wear them on the outer corner of my eyes. To apply, take a q-tip and cut in half. Put a small amount of glue on the stick end of the q-tip. Then run it along the top of the lash. Take the lash and form it into the shape of a horseshoe. Allow to dry for 15 seconds. Then gently apply the lash to the lashline. Use the other end of a pair of teezers to set the lashes along you lashline and alllow the glue to set and dry. It sounds complicated but after wearing them a few times, you will get the hang of it.

You can always go into any MAC store or counter and ask them for an flase eyelash demo. That's how I learned. MAC has been invaluable to me!!

The nice thing about partial false eyelashes? It gives you a little oomph. Most people can't even tell that you are wearing flase eyelashes but they make such a huge difference.

    Hope this helps!
