    Default No vacation this year

In a recent poll 50% said they had to cancel their vacation or scale back how much they spent. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20060506/D8HEGAPG8.html
Do you think you'll still take a vacation or is everyone saving for the rainy days?
Suddenly, I'm thinking I should hold off on the Bahamas until next year.

    that's a non-negotiable for me

It's my reward for all my hard work.

Gas prices are up, but they aren't killer. I only spend a couple of extra bucks to fll my tank. I guess if I was taking road-trip vacations, it'd be different.

We take a vacation every year. We save up through the years to do it. When we go on vacation, we spend exactly what we planned on spending (and usually less than that).

However, the vast majority of people are drowning in credit card debt, mortgages, new car loans, plus all of the money that is spent frivolously.

While we have credit cards (earning miles, heh) they are paid off every single month. We have new cars, boat, and a new house but our DTI is still under 35%. To me, if you cannot save at least 10% (preferably more) of every check, then you are living too much above your means.

Em, you're the dancin' dynamo! I know you've got a sweeet vacation coming.

I go on vacation and MUST come home with half a suitcase of 'must-haves'!
I mean, when's the next time I'll be there. I can't live without that special resort shot glass and t-shirt and cookbook and..... Well you get the point. I do start with a budget but sometimes it falls by the wayside . And, I feel like, if I can't go all out then why go.

I had a nice 8-state road trip of the upper Midwest planned for August complete with a ferry boat ride across Lake Michigan. I've cut that back to six states and no ferry boat ride, and I'm thinking of cutting it back even further, or perhaps mothballing the idea and finding an alternative destination closer to home.

I have other personal reasons for the cutback, but paying $3+/gallon for gas is the main one.

    Vacation, what's that??

I do contract work, so vacations cost me a fortune!! I'm stuck working like a shmuck until mid August (hence no LV SW-Fest ).

I will take one sometime later on in the year... If you don't you'll burn out eventually.

We are still planning a vacation but not like the one we had originally planned. With pretty much everything costing more due to fuel costs our budget had to be trimmed somewhere.

We refuse to go off track with our savings and investments and we have already done all we can to trim the daily, weekly and monthly expenses. So that means the fancy 10 day island resort vacation we had been planning is now going to be a weekend spa & golf trip.

It could be worse though. Many people in this world don't even get to take a weekend vacation so in the grand scheme of things we are still so very lucky.

I am going to see my family in New Orleans for about a week soon. I go home for at least a week at Christmas. I don't know if that counts as a "vacation" but I definitely take time off when I can. I also try to do it when I'm slower at work so I don't miss as much and I do bring work with me. Doesn't mean I don't worry about money but then I always worry about money. Now I don't know when I last had a "vacation" where I went somewhere jsut for fun.

Thank you! Whenever I hear someone bitching abou thow they can't pay the bills while they're wearing designer clothes and driving a zippy gas guzzler that won't be paid off for years, I give a mental middle finger. My family had 6 kids and a housewife on a teacher's salary. Granted, we lived 1 a 3 bed, 1 bath house till I was 15 and they were too cheap in many ways, and they're fortunate that they don't have to pay water or heating in their country home that my dad built from the foundations up, but if we could make it on that meager amount, they can make it, especially since most families have dual incomes and less people.

Personally I see an absolute direct corrolation to how people play and how people are successful. I know for an absolute fact that I am way more productive, make way more money, and enjoy life much more the more often I take vacations. I've already taken three this year and plan on taking at least 3 or 4 more by the end of the year. There's not one doubt in my mind that the more you play, the more you make. The bottom line is you can't afford NOT to take a vacation!

I'm way overdue for a vacation, especially after the last six months. I did drastically cut back my nights and got out of a high-paying but stressful club, but this isn't the answer, except as a quick fix to the serious Burnout that had me in a death grip about a month ago.

I'm still in a very grim mood, and a road trip is no doubt exactly what the doctor would prescribe.

It may be incredibly anal-retentive of me, but I've prepared a schedule (of time and budget) for my vacations for at least a year, and as much as two years, in advance. It's my own personal motivator to get to that treat, and I know that I won't put myself in additional debt, or fritter away the rent. The only drawback is the lack of spontaneity.

Me and the wife always are saving money and watching our budget so when we want to vacation we go . Besides getting approval from our jobs thats the only obsticle we have . We mostly do road trips and camping journeys to the national parks etc , we just try and find a quite place to go and relax . We may head into the city for a nice dinner on a couple of those days but mostly its just use the dogs and a bunch of trees - very simple . Anymore I despise the whole airport traveling experience or tourist traps . Give me an off road toy or a motorcycle and I'm good to go !

I think it is extremely wise to plan out your vacations and budget for it. Who says you cannot be spontaneous on a budget? We do it every year!!

If you make a list of things you would like to do and then when you are on vacation, you just do whatever you want, as long as it's within your means.

When we took Makayla to the Keys, we planned on renting a Charter Boat and taking her boating for a little while, but the conditions weren't right for it when we got there, so we took her swimming with the Dolphins down there. It was a last-minute and spontaneous decision, but all still had fun.

As long as you stay within your budget...do whatever you want.

This year has been a budget buster for me. I had three vacations planned and it's down to ONE! Not happy. The upside is I work by the beach so my days off are like a vacation.

It's been very unpredictable for me because I'm in a tourist area so the season didn't pick up as dramatically as usual. Probably half of our golfers drive in and that half is laying low for now. I'm hoping their fairway habit bites them again in the fall. But I don't want to ignore the slow-up and comprimise my financial plan.
