    Default Literate women

Now. Some may see the title of this site as being diminuitive. All I can say is - puns are funny, and occassionally we just have to suck it up. Don't expect me to stand by that if anyone ever uses it against me. I think there is some interesting here.

Evidently for women who love words. Men are allowed, but not welcomed. Kidding - men are welcomed too.

I like it. They all seem a lot smarter and worldlier than I can even pretend to be, but I like the Carrie Snyder interview. I love the hairhat man. Thanks for the link.

Meh. I'm not crazy about the message boards anyway. A little too much of a bunch of people sitting around stroking themselves for reading. (I love to read and always have. But I don't think all other forms of culture are invalid next to it. Like I also love TV. Apparently that is not something you are supposed to do while claiming, as I like to, to be smart.) Interestingly, a couple of years ago my roommate was reading all these mailing lists and message boards for romance novels - of the Jude Devereaux oeuvre or ilk - and we were both facinated by the way that the women of the romance lists were so fastidiously deconstructing and analysing the plots and symbols and certain degree of reflexivity in THEIR books, while the message boards dedicated to "good" books tended to delineate around the following questions: "Didn't you LOVE Jane Eyre? I loved Jane Eyre. And aren't we fabulous and smart for spending our time reading Jane Eyre? Can you even understand people who don't/haven't/have no desire to read Jane Eyre?" It's so freaking boring and self-congratulatory I can't even take it.

I really like the articles and book bundles though.
