AMATEURS upstaging the pros - what to do?

So last night two couples and a few of their friends come in. No problem! I fully support sharing the love if everyone's into it and following basic etiquette. I notice them while walking by and smile, later run into the girls in the bathroom, everyone was perfectly nice. About half an hour, maybe 45 minutes later, I'm walking by the stage, and these girls are giving their boyfriends some extremely energetic lap dances (fully clothed), right at the rail. Their chairs are pushed back a bit, but they're still right there, dancer onstage trying to cope with it, but all the attention around the stage is clearly on them. The DJ joked "Yes, we do have applications at the front desk," which was a fair enough joke to make - what else was he gonna say - but it got the crowd riled up even more.

Now, this was a somewhat slow night, but it wasn't dead. That space could have been taken up by tipping customers. And if the crowd is in a really rowdy mood and the female customers are feeling wild, I could see doing this for a minute or two just as a lark, but this was going on for at LEAST two songs. I felt like I ought to do something, especially out of loyalty to the poor ignored dancer onstage, but couldn't think of a thing, at least not without being a total buzzkill.

Has this come up at other clubs? What can you do, if anything?

(I did a quick scan to see if there's an existing thread about this & couldn't find one, sorry if this has been covered.)

Our bouncers would have told them to stop... as a dancer I wouldnt get mixed up in it... if the manager/bouncers let it go then best bet is to just leave it be...

That's what bouncers are for!!! I would have told a bouncer. Every club I have worked in (except one dive) would never allow that to continue.. Maybe for a few seconds, but never for that long.
I have seen girls told to put their tops back on, get off their boy friends lap if they were going to engage in lewd behavior, and pretty much asked to leave if they couldn't behave themselvbes...
I have noticed that some women think strip clubs are sex clubs because of the dim lighting.. But ladies, we can still see you.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

The bouncer was watching from the private dance area entry. He knew perfectly well what was going on. I don't know the personnel at my club well enough to know for sure yet, but I think they might have even been friends. Oy.

This all came AFTER eating shit as I came down the stairs off stage (I was fine, not hurt, dignity just a little bruised), after discovering too late that there was a huge spill onstage as I reclined in front of a some customers (my outfit was soaking wet for the rest of my set - goody), and after whacking my head on the pole during a shoulder roll (not hard enough for a concussion, but hard enough that it was definitely noticed). Perhaps I was overly sensitive by then.

If the bouncer doesn't stop it, I make a general announcement about lapdances being done by our girls only. If they still didn't stop, I'd leave the booth and let 'em know it was time to go...then tossed 'em
Then I would raise holy hell with the manager about piss poor security goons not doin their f'n jobs

That same behaviour has gotten me THROWN out of clubs as a customer. Stupid me...but it was fun, and WRONG.

A good bouncer would have STOPPED it.

^^^^^Naughty Girl! I think you're right. It's funny and hot for a minute or two but that's it. We even had a 60 year old get on a side stage and start stripping!!! Ewwww! He was funny until he started unzipping then the bouncer rushed over to get him.

Usually, when that happens around here, they get asked to stop. If that doesnt work, they get THE BOOT (dun dun dunnnn!)

My bouncers would have lost their job... They are trained to watch out for all of this, including dancers acting up, showing too much, or someone in the back making out.
And their "friends" are watched even more by the other bouncers.
The only time I have ever had a problem with a bouncer was when some guys threw onion rings on stage at another girl and when asked about it, said the onion rings weren't theirs and that they didn't do it. The bouncer believed them, yeah, I am going to make that ALL up. He didn't last long after that. The girl on stage raised hell about it.

Yeah, I've done this...sorry. I was at a different club from the one I work with, with some friends. I had just told one of the girls -- my friend's new girlfriend -- that I was a dancer, and she was still kind of wigging out about it, though in a "oohh that's so cool way" rather than a "oooh you're a dirty whore" way. This was also the first time she'd been in a strip club, and she was really excited about it. I was egging her on to get a lap dance and she wanted me to "break her in" first, so I gave her a few seconds of grind. However, I did keep my top on, and ended up talking her and her boyfriend into buying dances, so the love was shared. What I hate is girls who seem like they're competing with dancers. If you wanna play stripper so bad, just fill out a damn application and come to work. That whole "strip for your lover" thing is for AT HOME, ladies.

That's just it. I mean, I'm really fine with female customers doing a little bit if the spirit moves them. I can even see how that would contribute to a nice, free-wheeling general vibe (which is what it sounds like you did ). But there's a big difference between that and what was going on last night. When I first caught a glimpse of it, I was amused, and tried to think how I could work that angle. Maybe I'll drop by after they dismount and compliment them, or just comment on what a good time they're having - but I never got a chance. It just went on and on and on!

It's happened a few times at our club. Normally what happens is the bouncer/door man will come up and politely ask them to stop. If they continue to be attention seeking and get the crowds attention more than the dancer, then she will be booted out the door.

Yeah, I've been feeling too good in the club and forgot I wasn't a dancer. We were asked to stop - obviously. I felt very bad for taking attention away from the dancer on stage - so I went and tipped her. There were only two other tables of custies and they were definitely watching me - not the dancer. It's not something I would do again.....like Pamela said - it was fun - but WRONG!

The club usually has dancers sign a contractor agreement, right? Usually even before auditioning, that I've seen. Well, the bouncer should go up there with the papers and ask the girls to sign them, and let them know what the shift fees are. =)

Wow, I'd have been upset, too... ESPECIALLY if i was the girl onstage!!!! Someone should have told them they can't do that without a dancer license or explain house fees or something.

We are having that problem at my club. Not outsiders but dancers. We are mainly a stage club, (topless) which means the bulk of our income is made on stage. There are two dancers (who bring an entourage of two or three other friends) who have been tagging custys at the stage and getting them to leave while another dancer is dancing. I spoke to the manager about it and had words w/ one of them. The bouncer didn't do too much It's like everyone in this club is too afraid to approach them. The main manager only gave each of them two shifts this week and seperating them, but they came in and worked tonight, even though they are not on schedule. (the day time manager let them work and doesn't know the situation).

It's messed up because the dancers who are mad about them, won't stand up for themselves.

Sorry this is long and maybe OT.

But that shit is just wrong.
