Default Work humor at its finest

I've been absent I know. But, you know, there comes a time when a girl just has to rant... maybe this is my gift of Karma coming to haunt me... I swear there are people in the world that just frigging do not deserve to hold the jobs that they do! I don't care how smart they are!

So there I was…in a meeting…I was asked for my opinion. I gave it, started to get beat up, and pled my case. Then from across the room my boss rips my face off!! I didn’t even see him move!!!! For a short guy he’s got good reach!!! I also learned a new system of vote tallying… Apparently starting at boss your vote counts more than once…and moves up into the higher authortities The rest of us are “just sucking air”. Interesting concept…actually my thoughts were more like “WOW! Did he just say that?” Ironically, when we took a vote on things… A couple of the multi-voters voted for one plan. Those of us (of the air sucking variety) voted for plan B. Wouldn’t you know we tied??? At this point I’m thinking this is a fun little game…reminds me of 4th grade.
On another note, my boss decided to put me in charge of a project, I'm thinking... that’s a firing in the making… My boss says he chose me because I’m organized and I will make sure everyone does what they are suppose to do, basically, I'm a hard ass. I’m thinking “there’s no need for name calling and threats”. Besides, has he seen my desk???

I’m responsible, yet have no authority to cover my own ass. I can’t even make anyone else do anything they are suppose to.. I even had co-workers delete my e-mail without reading it… Now I know I did that to my boss a few times…but hey, I know secretly it made him giggle...ok, maybe not. But it did make him yell out my name, which gave me attention, and made ME giggle… I still went back in my deleted folder and read the e-mail later though.

Days like today make me wonder why I gave up dealing with drunk guys who just want to feel my boobs.

Ah, the politics and hypocrisy of working in the legal field.

    Damn, I miss it.

    LOL

Sorry to hear that you had such a crappy day (?). Know that I still love you.

Not crappy VG.. just one of those "I got out of bed for this??" I think that I have been hit on the head with reality, as I seem to just not really care much about anything other than just coming in, doing my job and going home.. and more interestingly enough, I'm doing quite well.. even if I am deemed high maintenance.. yeah.. like that one??? Which after being told this, my monkeys in my brain kicked in and spit shit out before I could control what was happening..
I always find that the comment attributing some with the claim of high maintenance is usually another way of saying that the person just doesnt know how to, and doesnt want to bother spending the time learning how to, handle a person. I, on the other hand, love discovering how to "handle" someone, which is why today, like many other days in the past at the lovely office I work at, ended with people asking me, "What is WRONG with you?".... and biting my tongue wanting to say, "I'm a stripper at heart.. don't ya know??"

This sort of thing is becoming the norm' in the legal field.

Here in Toronto, the number of women leaving the field is growing at a fairly rapid rate. In fact, rapidly enough that its gotten some media attention.

It also seems that the younger men are starting to leave the field as well Due to the sexist nature of the field, this I think is what actually got the media's attention, rather than the women leaving.

It's reached the point where it's starting to become a concern for those still in it. Given the egotistical and bazar (to me) nature of the biz, I'm not sure I could even comment sensibly on it!!

Gawd, the wonderful world of business.

    1) If he ripped your face off in a meeting, he's not a good boss. The good bosses can criticise constructively while disagreeing with you.

Problem with being a bad boss is, next time you see him heading for a major f*ck-up, it makes you less inclined to warn him of said f*ck-up before it occurs.

    2) If your boss put you in change of a project, ask him very nicely for a brief memo outlining what you've got to achieve, timescales, etc. Play the "dumb" co-worker if necessary. This gives you:

    a) A bit of protection if things go pear-shaped, cos you can hopefully say - 'well your memo said "x" and that's what I've tried to achieve. Can I help it if you said "x" and meant "y"?'

    b) Slightly more authority over your co-workers, cos I'd leave the memo discretely lying on your desk for them to read.

    3) The ability to get co-workers to do your bidding is what a friend of mine calls "people engineering". Don't just tell them what to do, work out how to manoever them into doing it. Most people don't like taking orders but they will follow suggestions - trick is to make them think it's a suggestion, not an order.

    Phil.

PS: Did I mention I work for a company where we don't get this crap? Now that's made you feel better, hasn't it?

A company or a law firm??? I work for a law firm, I guess I should have explained that in my first sentence. I keep threatening my friends that one of these days I'm going to get myself a "pen name" and just start writing about my life experiences- all at work... I swear I work in a sit com.....

Better day today.. although, I had to giggle through most of it... nothing like seeing square pegs being forced into round holes.....
