    Default Non transferable

So, a little over a month ago, My boyfriend bought tickets for a trip to the caribean for my best girlfriend and I and himself.

Problem is, she is pregnant, and when she went to the doc today, he told her that her placenta was detaching, and she cannot fly, because she needs to stay off of her feet, and be near her doc. We did not get insurance, because we figured that we would deff be going on the trip.

The tix are non refundable, and non transferable, and we each had to put down our own name. I'd like another friend of mine to take her place, but when I called expedia, they just wouldn't budge.

Tomarrow I will call continental, and see if they can do anything. It's near 500 for the ticket, so it would really suck if that just went down the drain. Anyone know a way around this, or something special I can say when I talk to continental tomarrow?

I dont work in that line of buisness, however if it a medical reason that should be enough to get out of the ticket. Try talking to a manager/supervisor and get a MD's note.

    Good luck

Did you (or he) buy using a credit card? They often have extra cencellation insurance included.

A medical reason is a pretty good excuse though...even if it's not 'officially' their policy to refund, I'll bet some wheedling and doctor's notes will get you at the very least an exchange credit in the amount of the ticket.

it should be enough, but it's probably not...which is why the trip insurance companies exist.

I think the only thing they might do is give you flight credit, but it'd probably be in your friend's name.

I had to cancel a non-refundable ticket once (USAir) and I got flight credit, minus $100, had to be used in a year.

Continental is very similar, at least when you book through them. However, I don't know about using a 3rd party.

Call the airline directly. Being that your friend's pregnancy situation would probably prevent her from even using the ticket within a year, they may be willing to accomodate her transfering the ticket to another person. Let them know, in advance, that you are willing to get a doctor's note.

Sometimes in situations like this, they will just do what you want. When I was in college I had a ticket to fly home (non-refundable, non-transferable) that I booked for my flight home during winter break. I found out that my grandmother passed away and wanted to get home 2 weeks sooner. When I called and explained the situation, gave them phone numbers to verify the information, they not only moved my "flight date and time" up, but they also did not charge me for it.

Just be really polite, and to the point. See what happens.
