I dont know what to do has this ever happened to anyone should I just take it out or is there anything over the counter I can try? someone told me to use Bactine please help I know I was stupid for not taking care of it.

Bactine is what I used, but it still took me a long time for mine to heal (well over 6 months). Then again, mine wasn't infected and I was wearing dance leotards on a daily basis.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you take care of it quick!

Sea salts and warm water is your best friend right now. When I got my bellybutton done it got really infected. Hold a clean wash cloth with sea salts and water on your piercing... then pour a bit of the seasalt/water mix over your piercing. Do this like 3 times a day for about 2 weeks or so.

i have many piercings. dilute bactine with water, about 1/2 and 1/2. use that mixture once a day (in the morning is good). if you want to use sea salts instead of bactine that will will work as well... but do not use both (thats too harsh). in addition to whichever you choose, wash it twice daily with UNSCENTED regular dial soap. the orangeish regular antibacterial kind. ONLY TWICE DAILY, and DO NOT touch it at ANY other time. when you wash it, gently move the jewelry back and forth and make sure to rinse with warm water. if this routine doesn't help, or if more redness/swelling occurs within 5 days, i would see a doctor for some antibiotics. as long as the swelling is local and minor you may be able to cure it on your own.

basically, piercings respond best to minimal cleansing and are otherwise best LEFT ALONE.

    sorry for all the caps.

ps. DO NOT TAKE IT OUT. even if you do have an infection, taking it out will NOT cure it. it can, however, lead to more complications because the infection will have no "way out". right now the "puss" is able to escape through the opening. if you take it out and the hole closes up, you'll be lending a hand to all of the bacteria trapped inside of your skin.

Also make sure you never use anything that will dry it out. Rubbing alcohol, proxide and any aniseptic will make your body reject the piercing. When in the shower make sure you DO NOT use any body wash on it(as penny already said). Sea salts are the best for cleaning piercings.

Is the pus green and or smelly? If not, it's not infected, just irritated. Don't worry, it'll get better. Just make sure you do the sea salt soaks like Penny said, and don't touch it when you're not cleaning it! I had this problem too, because I kept touching it when my hands were dirty. Wash your hands before you clean your piercing, too. They take about 6 months to a year to heal all the way, and don't slack off with the cleaning until there are no more crusties on it. Whatever you do, don't take it out until it's feeling better! If you go to the doctor, they'll tell you to take it out, but they don't know what they're talking about since they don't know much about piercings. Good luck!

I had issues with my navel piercing and it took about 6 months to heal. One problem had was that I had a captive ring instad of a curved barbell. to get the same arc, your ring would have to be huge. But it's small and it pushes on te skin uncomfortably.

Anyway, I was squeezing yuckiness that looked like hamburger for those 6 months and it eventually healed fine. Just very stubborn.

When I first got my bellybutton pierced it got really infected ( it actually took longest heal out of all my piercings and was the biggest pain in my ass) however, I tried everything...until I found epsom salt. I believe you can find it at a whole foods. A little water and epsom salt ceared it up. DONT TOUCH IT if you cant help it. Touchin it makes it worse.

Navel piercings have a harder time healing because they get irritated by your clothing, you sit down your jeans rub on it, your shirts will rub on it etc... It has nothing to do with your body rejecting it unless it looks like your body is trying to push it out(had that happen with my eyebrow ring). Just make sure you hold a clean warm wash cloth over it as I already said with the epsom salt/water mixture(you can get the epsom salts super cheap at your drug store) and life is good.

You could try Saline Wound Wash. Thats what I used on mine when I had it.

You should really make sure that you are rinsing your belly button well after your showers. Being that it is an open wound, you have to make sure that any soaps, etc that run down your belly are completely washed away.

You may want to put some antibacterial soaps on the ring and then gently just pull it through the pierced hole.

Go to your local piercing and/or tattoo studio and get a can of H2Ocean. It is basically sea salt in a can... and then DONT neglect it anymore!!!

Mine took an entire year to heal, to the day! It looked angry for a while since I was dancing with it brand new.
I used sea salt on it, but actually held a cup with warm water and the salt over the wound. I held the cup there for alittle while and this really helped with the irritation.
I would take eveyone's advice on here, as well as going to the place where you pierced it. Ask them what they think. It could be normal, or it might be infected and they will know exactly what to do.. good luck!
Please don't lick me, it tickles..
