Hubby is on a small deployment and guess what has happened? Yep... back to my old roots, no eating, no sleeping.. and feeling like crap... anyone got any helpful hints? I've tried baths, teas, etc.. I'm up at all hours.. thankfully, its only a week long one, but I'm EXHAUSTED!

It's probably stress so the trick is to admit you're not comfortable right now. Then confront your greatest fear whether it concerns your man or you. Once you are sure your worst fear probably won't come true and you'll be OK even if it does you can relax and rest again.

You can also plan heavy workouts when he's gone to tire you out even more. You'll collapse into bed.

I'm right there with you...the past six months have been hard--no eating, no sleeping, feeling exhausted until I get on the mike, get a surge of energy from god knows where that generally gets me through the night in fine form--stumbling to the car and home...

    ...and can't fucking sleep, lol.

Food sucks--I have filled my refrigerator countless times in the last six months with the choicest delicacies, thinking that would work--and there they sit.

It was getting better but it has hit me again in the past week, probably due to the stress of this new club, and the realization that I need to do something soon about getting the hell out of this town.

I don't have much advice for you, Gynger, other than to say Optimist--ever the wise one--just gave us both some.

I have so much trouble with insomnia so I feel your pain. I even started a thread about it a while back. If it gets bad enough I'll take Benadryl or my herbal Snooze-In stuff but something that doesn't help. I know it's stress but knowing it and changing it are two diferent things. I have always had trouble relaxing.

    Hmm. For sleep:
    2 glasses of red wine
or 2 tablets of valerian and 1-2 cups of chamomile tea
or 2 tablets of skullcaps and chamomile tea
or, if it gets really bad, go the doctor and have him perscribe something (the problem with this is that very few people actually want to sleep for 8 hours anymore).
Don't just go without sleep. It does make you crazy, and it is self-perpetuating.

Working out a lot actually gives me insomnia. But when I say a lot, I mean honestly running about seven miles, and then spending an hour on the bike or stair climber...I was doing that for the last little while, and it's made me shaky, light headed, and inable to sleep more than five hours a night. Which makes me feel sooo exhausted and shitty all day. I had to cut down to 45min of cardio and a little yoga. And I now I can almost sleep eight hours again. I don't know...working out revs me up too much to stay asleep. But I'm the kid who can't sleep after drinking half a red bull.

i have trouble sleeping often. my mind starts going and i can't get it to slow down.

if you're worried about specific things sometimes it helps to write them down.

i also find that counting backwards from 100 can help too. it requires enough concentration that i stop thinking about other things, but not so much that i can't fall asleep.

hunger also causes insomnia. so try to eat something light before you go to bed. complex carbohydrates, like brown rice or whole wheat bread tend to help promote sleep.

also, if you don't fall asleep with in 20 minutes or so stop trying. get up and do something for a short while. something relaxing, like reading or taking a bath. and then try to fall asleep again. don't read, work or watch tv in bed or even in your bedroom if you can avoid it. in fact, don't do anything in your bed other than sleep and have sex.

good luck - i know how frustrating and exhausting insomnia can be!

My problem is not with falling asleep, but staying asleep. I wake up every other night at 2am and CAN NOT fall back asleep.

I only wish I lost my appetite as well! Unfortunately, I find myself snacking more often throughout the day, trying to boost my energy.

one thing that also helps me is to read in bed.

I swear once I do get to sleep, whatever way I try, I sure can't get up in the morning. In fact, if I am allowed to sleep as much as I want I'll usually sleep at least 12 hours. I've always had sleep issues since I can remember from like the age of 12 or so. I wonder if it's hormonal too?

Well that explains a lot right there...

This is really weird for me because i have always had a prodigious appetite, or if even if I smoke heavily it's still pretty good, with rare periods where if I'm stressed or unhappy I don't want food--but never like this.

And never, ever with the sleep thing. Oh I have had trouble adjusting to 'normal' hours when I tried to become a 'day' person, but I no longer care--I'm totally nocturnal and I like it. But never had any trouble whatsoever getting 7-8 hours. When I have been stressed or depressed before, I'd usually sleep a bit more.

Even when my brother died it was different--I slept a lot then--but of course I dealt with the shock much differently then--by drinking heavily, lol, until I realized it wasn't helping at all but hurting.

I think it was both of them in four days, that really changed everything--I'll never be the same man again--not necessarily worse, just different.
