Default would this be setting myself up for burnout?

im hoping theres a few girls here who regulary travel long distance to work who can input.

my plan is ,due to the fact that clubs in my city are too quiet for my liking (i know if i worked one night here it would do my head in.i cant stand sitting around doing nothing.id rather work my ass off and make minimum money, then sit and dig myself a hole of boredom for a few decent dances. a la japan)i was hoping to get my partner to drive me (i cant drive) just over an hour to the nearest decent club. work from 9pm till close at 5am. then theres a 5:22am train home.get home by 7am.

does that extra travelling = burnout faster?

im hoping to work mon, tue, wed and fri. i know the only way to find out for sure is to give it a go and see what happens, but it would help to know first from someone with that kinda travelling experiance. thanks!!

If I were you, I'd do it say 9 days a month (in a row), and rent a room out there while you're there.

The extra travel definitely contributes to burnout. When I'm working hard, I want to basically roll out of bed and be in the club, then roll back into bed. Period.

I dunno, I drive an hour to work and then an hour back 3 or 4 nights a week. The driving doesn't burn me out at all. It actually gives me time to decompress after work before I get home. The only thing that bothers me is filling my tank up twice a week and getting oil changes once a month and putting all the miles on my car. You wouldn't even have to worry about that!

Try to use the travel time to pamper yourself, catch up on reading good books and writing in your journal, doing your nails, whatever makes you happy...

I've been doing a commute worse than that these days.

I live right outside Philly, but work at a club in Atlantic City...that's a 1.5-2hr drive. HOWEVER gas prices are atrocious these days--it costs about $32 in gas to drive my V8 Mustang to AC and back--and I get scared driving such a long, boring drive after being exhausted from working all day long. Especially since my club schedules us 8hr shifts, so I'm in no state at all to drive after work. So what do I do?...I drive 3mins from my apartment to the nearest train station, take a SEPTA train into center city, and from there I either take a $7.25 one-way train to Atlantic City or a $17 round-trip Greyhound bus to Atlantic City. Usually the casinos give Greyhound customers a cash voucher, which makes up for most of the bus fare...but Greyhound's reliability and service sucks big time!! By taking mass transit, I do save about 50% of the cost, and it gives me time to sleep on the bus/train ride, but it does take an extra hr or so to get home. When Greyhound screws up, which is often, it takes me even longer to get home and by that point I'm all aggravated. That's part of the reason why I've been sleep-deprived lately and sleep so much on my nights off. But hey, the money's worth it...because Philly clubs kinda suck these days. If I weren't so damn motivated to work my butt off so I can buy that vintage camper I've always wanted, maybe the commute/aggravation would annoy me more.

mermaidnz, you may want to also consider that most nights clubs do not open until 5am. During the week the clubs may shut as early as 2am. What are you going to do until the train runs?

i drive 1.5 hours both ways monday-thursday and have for 4.5 years. Yah it sucks when you are tired butlike was mentioned above. the drive in I use to listen to my music. Catch up on the phone and let go of the day.

The drive home I use it to wind totally down so that when I get home I can check my email and go right to bed.

I would totally offer a sofa bed however, as you may be v.aware, my place isn't exactly the most plesant place to stay within at the moment.... damnit... I could've helped you out there!

As for what to do on the train ride home.. iPod and Books are great start. You could even buy some audio books to listen to ... or even start doing cross-words...

At the same time, you may want to cut back to three nights per week if you can at this particular club due to the travel... not every night is going to be a bumper night at the club... esp. this time of year.

i work at a club two hours away from home and i just drive up saterdays, work from the time i get there till i'm ready to go, then i stay till tuesday or wednesday, check out at noon from the hotel and work the day shift so i can leave at 7. i like the time away from home but it does wear you out. if you really want to do that, make sure the club you work in has good money guarantee. i refuse to go home with less than $1000 for the three of four days i work out of town (after traveling fees) since i have to be away from home so much. that insures i will have my bills paid, my travel expenses covered, and money to save each week.

(taken from a movie) "Is the juice worth the squeeze?" if so, go for it. i wish you much luck!

I am currently commuting to different citys to try to find a better club to work in. Mostly its around a 3hr train journey there and back so i always book a hotel or stay with a friend. It is annoyong and exhausting, so much so that im actually moving in about a moth so as i will not have to travel anymore. Like you say tho, its worth it if the money is good. Good luck with it hon, x
