Default Let's start a book club!

There are so many good sales books out there. Let's start a book club to work through some of them. Say we pick one book at a time, and work through a chapter a week. We can discuss the main points of that chapter, and then spend the week finding ways to apply them at work. Then we can meet here again and talk about what did and didn't work and exchange ideas.

    Any takers??

I am currently reading "how to close every sale" by Joe Gerard and "Think and grow rich" by Napolian Hill.

Yes, I'd love that too. I used to read all the time...now I'm slacking off big time.

What is the first book on the list Colleen?? How long will we have to read the book/discussion? I guess the discussions could get moved into the "member boards"

    This is a great idea!

"The Princessa: Machiavelli for Women" by Harriet Rubin,

some of it made me laugh, but for a not always so assertive girl like me, this book has helped me hustle smarter, and I think it's especially applicable to strip club environments. It's philosophy is better suited to helping deal with dickhead management and crazy colleagues. But that's half the battle at work sometimes. Being able to make my schedule exactly as I want it- that's nice. They [management] really do treat me like a little princess these days, and if only they knew how much of that was me manipulating them , girl style.

Mollyzmoon-- I have never heard of that book. But now I HAVE to get it. (You mean ther really is a better way to manipulate management than telling them what you really think of them??? WOW!!!)

My big problem with sales books is that I read them way too fast, but I don't really apply anything I read in them. LIke I think just passing my eyes over the information is going to make me into a super sales woman. (Just like I want to believe tha reading SHAPE magazine will make me buff. ) I think this way, we can treat the books like a text book, where you read a little, then apply the information and learn it, then you read a little more, and so on. And it will be more fun and productive to work through this stuff as a group, rather than attempting to decipher all of it myself.

Lets leave this trhead up here for a few more days, and have everybody suggest books to start with. Be sure to tell why you think your suggestion is a good one. Then maybe sunday or monday we can move over to the member boards with a vote on which book to read first. Is that OK with the mods and everybody else?

I've been meaning to read "think and grow rich" by Napoleon Hill; I think it would be a great first book for a book club, since it's supposed to be the bible of sales.

I love this idea! I bought Hill's book months ago and haven't read it. And I'm just like Colleen, I read way too fast...sometimes I'm just passing my eyes over words. I couldn't tell you a thing about what I've been reading. Discussing the book might actually force me to pay attention.

Would it help if the book club had a moderator? Is that you, Colleen?

Sure, I'll do it. Since 3 of us already own Think and Grow Rich, that might be the one to start with. I have a mission statement taped to my bathroom mirror, and I don't even look at it! (I forget!)

    Any more suggestions??

    let's start!

Colleen, you should set up "homework"...

like have a certain # of chapters read by next sunday (2-3? Depending on the length, ect.).

2 ways to apply what we've learned

a quote that said the most to us

    any questions

    chapters' main points, ect?

***Just my ideas, I think working together on this will be awesome!

I saw this at Barnes and Noble last week and was thinking of picking it up. Anyone read the Little Red Book?

Personally, "Think and Grow Rich" needs some major updating, I wasn't impressed.

I'd be interested.. I'm currently reading "The Anatomy of a Double Life" by Gail Salz. It's and insightful an interesting book. I very much feel like I live a double life, being that my family and friends don't know my part time job .

The Satanic Witch by Anton Levay....maybe not as the first read but as a second or third. It is about manipulation by using feminine charms, not satanism, btw, and I've been dying for an excuse to order it!

An excellent book for understanding what makes the rich wealthy and how you can apply it to yourself. This is also great for my current business in seeking out high-value client. Not sure if it applies as much to custys.

A great book not to be missed is "The Art of Seduction." Its all about seduction types and psychological angles of seduction, not like,"How to Seduce your Man," but "How to Win your Enemy Over" and things like that.In the oppening chapter it talks about how when women had no political power, they used femininity and calculation to sway the tides of their time. Its sooooo interesting!

I read one of Gerard's books, and have had a copy of "Think and Grow Rich" for years, but never got past the first page. Maybe I need to dig it out.

Most of these books are too repetitive or simplistic, and aimed at too broad a reader base for me--but nonetheless it's a great idea!

There was one book I started a while back that had some promise, and might be helpful for all of us--The Art of Negotiation (I forget the author).

Nice suggestion Colleen, I like it...
