    Default Cocktails and shots

    Hi,

    I start in 2 weeks...

My dancer friend says that I'm going to have to REALLY, REALLY drink every night that I work...all night long. Shot after shot. If the customer wants you to, it's not in your best interest to turn him down if you want good money.
Now, I love my cocktails, but 5 or 6 nights a week of drinking for 8 or so hours...that's alot of alchohol!!! I know it only takes a few months of drinking heavily to turn into an alchoholic, and even if I didn't, that is super unhealthy for my liver and my whole body. It ages you.
There are too many bartenders for me to let them know ahead of time that I want my drinks n/a. Does anyone have any advice on this matter? Please let me know. Thanks!!
    Parker

P.S.: Also, if anyone knows how to protect your skin in a smoky bar that would be great. In twin studies, those that work in a bar look 5 years older than their sibling.

Actually, most of us will recommend that you not drink heavily or at all while at work. I don't drink and it doesn't impact my money. Your club will either have nonalcoholic ladies' drinks you can order or you can just order a soda or bottled water if the customer wants to buy you a drink. If they seriously want you to drink, you can talk to the waitress or bartender and ask them to make you a virgin shot; get up and tell them when the order's placed. The waitresses at my club drink shots of water or juice when they don't want to drink and the custys want them to do a shot. There are all kinds of ways not to get wasted at work. Obviously we all don't get trashed every night or else we wouldn't be able to sustain working in this job for long!

And there are very few customers who are going to insist you drink. I don't drink at all and have only encountered this once in the past four years. Most prefer a dancer who isn't incapacitated by alcohol, and those who do aren't going to be your spenders anyway.

As far as tips on protecting your skin from smoke, there are threads in Body Business about that . . . it can be done. Or you might get lucky and work somewhere with a smoking ban!

Your dancer "friend"? Is this really a friend or another dancer who was picked or offered to show you the ropes? That's HORRIBLE advice! If the customer's going to get less dances or no dances because you won't let him fill you with booze. Trust me, you do NOT want to dance for him. He's probably going to be one of those licking, biting, grabbing jerks. Plus, you're just starting. You need to be sober enough to know what you're doing. You could hurt yourself falling down either on stage or even on the floor while getting used to she shoes.

i rarely drink at all at work. it's not a good environement to be drunk in; there are way too many opportunities to get yourself in trouble if you're not fully aware of your surroundings and actions.

fortunately, my club discourages dancers from drinking. but a lot of culbs encourage it. they make more money if the customers are buying you lots of drinks and some customers prefer a drunk dancer (i suppose they hope they will bend the rules more).

if a customer offers to buy you a brink it is polite to ask for something; juice, soda, a bottle of water, whatever. then stay and drink it with them for at least a short while.

if the club you will be working at encourages the dancers to get drunk, well, that is something to be wary of, for sure.

IMO If you can't do this job sober, don't do it at all.
It takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird

drinking i think comes along with the business.. i've danced some nights at work pretty buzzed up but then theres nights when i drink just a little, or none at all.. all depends... but if you find you always have to be fucked up to dance well, then their could be a potential problem if you're constantly relying on alcohol or any kind of mind alterting substance in order to dance.... i don't really agree with your friend's advice.... sure you can listen but its you thats gonna make your own decision about your drinking....
