Default A good hustle tip for cheapos!

Hi everyone! I'm sure you all have used this one but just in case, I thought I'd share something I came up with last night! You all know (hate) the customer that asks for change back from the dancer. Just what goes through their head, I don't know! One guy even made a remark last night "I know, asking for change back is being really cheap, huh?, heh heh heh...." I felt like saying "you said it, not me!!!" Anyway, something I did last night and it probably helped the guy was drunk, so this was my 2nd time around with this guy, he had already bought 2 dances from me and I was on my 3rd one with this guy. After doing the 3rd one he gave me a $20 (dances are $10) and said, can you give me change back? I ever so quickly looked at my garter and said "I'm sorry, I don't have any change, why don't I just do one more dance and we'll call it even?" The guy said "ok" So, I'm going to try to make it a point to consistenly turn my change in to the bartender, like if I have 20 $1's, get a $20 for it so I won't have change. Have any of you tried this hustle approach?

Yup, I keep mine in a purse so they can't see it. That's a good way to word it, though.

I've used this exact line, and it works for me. I NEVER have change anymore.

I do this, too. I hide all my small bills in my garter, rubber banded inside a $20. Or I will keep out only a $5. It works for me sometimes. I have a very broke-ass crowd.

yes, i never give change. because we have $20 and $50 dances and nothing smaller, i hide my $20 notes inside the $50 or get them changed when i have enough, when ia customer takes me for a dance, and asks if i have change, i make a pretty big deal out of it by saying, "oh...sorry honey, i don't usually get smaller notes so i don't have anything for change. if you really NEED it, we'll have to go back down the stairs and wait at the bar to organise it, otherwise, you give me the $50 now, i'll do a dance worth $20 and let you know when time's up, if you're enjoying yourself we can keep going without having to stop but if you're happy to finish then and there, we can organise the change at the end, that way we don't have to stuff around now."

90% of the time, the guys never want to finish after the 3 minutes so they just continue and get the whole $50 dance and leave happy becuase the choice was still in their hands to spend the money or get the change (and if they do go the whole $50, i always re-confirm at the end that it was DEFINATLEY worth it)

the 10% that want to stop at the $20 still get me walking them to the bar, spending a few minutes chatting while waiting then usually offer me a drink anyway, and because i displayed honesty in actually giving them the change at the end instrad of trying to run off with it, they usually come back for another dance later on.

How true: the 10% that want to stop at the $20 still get me walking them to the bar, spending a few minutes chatting while waiting then usually offer me a drink anyway, and because i displayed honesty in actually giving them the change at the end instrad of trying to run off with it, they usually come back for another dance later on.

I charge $70-80 for one dance (up to 4-5 songs or 20 minutes) in Melbourne.... if the guy hands me a $100 bill or even two $50 bills.. I will put them in my wrist-wallet and tell him that I will give him change at the end of the dance. Since the guys pre-pay here in Australia the majority are okay with this.... then when the end of the dance comes I will keep to my word by saying "I will get that change for you now" .... you wouldn't believe how many times (more often than not) I've been tipped due to the guy saying "don't worry about it" or even "just buy me one drink and we'll call it even" (considering that one drink will only cost me $7 I'm still getting a decent tip).

It's only in the clubs where we have to go thru a 'reception' (the guys pays the receptionist not me for the dance) that I can't really do this tactic (and it's usually the clubs where they take a cut/percentage off each dance).

A guy is a cheapo because he doesn't have exact change? Imagine that. I guess its his fault that ATM's usually only spit out twenties.

In a lot of mainstream enterprises the seller might consider that long term, pressuring the customer into spending that extra $10 might result in forgoing the more lucrative prospect of said customer's continued business, which I'm sure will be more than $10, even if he does ask for change back.

Yet another reason this industry is going down the toilet.

^^^ Well, maybe it's not cheap, but it certainly isn't generous, and in such a tip driven environment, it's not going to maximize the guys experience. For instance the other night my friend had to go to the dressing room to get ten bucks out of her purse for a guy who demanded change... and after that, he wanted her to sit and chat with him! LOL

If the gal doesn't have the change on her body, then she doesn't have it.

If you think about it, the reason it worked here is because the guy was already on the third song and past the point of no return. Imagine had he asked "I'll buy a third dance if you can make change for two $20 bills" during the second song. He then has an out if she says no.

and after that, he wanted her to sit and chat with him! LOL
    Now that's cheap.

i generally ask guys if they want change only if i haven't been able to upsell them to a change-less amount of/price on dances. if, otoh they ask me for change on dance(s), i will typically say 'we can go to the bar/door together to get change'. sometimes this gets me 'aw, just keep it'. other times i get dances after making change anyhow, because i was 'so honest and didn't try to hustle them'. but there's no guarantee. if a guy is really aggressive about getting change on one dance, i will typically make change on the spot and hightail it away from such a lad, as they tend to be very demanding about what they want in further dances.

in general, i would suggest other dancers never claim to have any change if they can possibly slide by and offer instead to make change at the bar and/or upsell.

curiously, i get the most money out of guys breaking 100s who get change with me at the bar/door and the next most out of guys who balk at going to the bar to make change.

i have used the "no change" hustle, and it totally works....heres a couple i learned from my GFs at work...

im irish and have an irish tattoo on my arm...guys always make conversation about it...so when i ask for a dance, i always say "you know its bad luck to turn down an irish girl"

id say works about 80% of the time

    also...learned from a car salesman...

"its ok if you cant afford it, you can tell me"

USUALLY...it turns into a pissing contest and i always win with getting a dance...very easy, and most guys laugh and give in

this might be really foward, but when the REALLY handsy customters ask for change back i always say something like "oh... i was going to keep this extra 10 as an apology tip for when you tried to touch my crotch after i told you not to"

they always get embarassed and walk away leaving me with the "tip". it has never failed. with the less assholeish guys i usually just let it go or i hint to tipping in a low key or playfull way. i also do the "how about one more dance/i don't have any change" thing sometimes. also.... sometimes if you just finger through the ones and say "let me see here..." and stall a bit they just say "oh it's ok, nevermind" heh

I had one idiot that at the very end of the night, meaning the very last 3 songs, I danced for him. Our dances are $10 each and as soon as the music stops we have to wrap up quickly and get back to the dressing room. Anyway, I did 3 songs and he gave me $40 (2 $20's) I thanked him and was just about to leave when he asked me if he could have change back, he wanted $10. THe idiot could hear the managers yelling "dancers, back to the dressing room now...." I said to him, I really don't think I have change. He then said, "well, could you look?" I couldn't believe my ears!!!! While my folded over pile of cash was still rubberbanded to my garter I quickly just flipped through it and again, I really don't think I have the money. He then said "oh wait, I just saw a $5 and some singles...." I seriously wanted to kick this cheap idiot. So, just to get away from this punk, I took my money off and counted out the change for him. But then this is the best part, when I gave him back his change, he had the nerve to ask me if I'd meet up with him after the club!!!!! I just gave him this look like, you're kidding right? Pathetic!!! What's he want, to take me to McDonald's with the $10 he made me count out to give back to him? Ughh!!! Loser!

This other guy the other night smacked me really hard on my ass and I work in a no touching club. The bouncers will give one warning for a touch on the legs, hips or butt (boobs or kitty, out immediately, no questions) So, he got a warning to not touch me. Well after the dance he still wanted to hang out but he wanted to use the restroom first before he paid me. I told him he had to pay me before he went. So he gave me a $20 (dances are $10) and was mad and said he wanted change back and I said "no". The $10 is for the hard smack on my ass. He started demanding his money back and I said nope, not getting it! He barged off so pissed but about 20 minutes later was trying to talk to me again. Losers!!!!

I did that, and i was serious about it too, i was pissed when this guy pulled my panties over really quick to get a peek.( i work in a topless club and have never shown anyone the goods) I didnt leave or show how angry i was b/c he owed me 160, when it was time to pay he gave me 2 -100 bills. He asked for change, I said " oh, thought that was my tip for you doing what you did ( i already bitched enough, so he said he was sorry and felt bad) He said no, i need my 40 bk!! I couldnt beleive the ass!

I think I would've just kept it and if he persisted I would've told him that I'd tell the bouncer what he did. I mean, what's he going to say to the manager "She won't give me my money back because I pulled down her panties when I wasn't supposed to and that's why she won't give me change back". I think keeping his change would teach that jerk a lesson. If he doesn't come back to get a dance from you in the future, so what, he's probably not the type of customer you'd want anyway. Who knows what he'd try next time if he thought he could get away with it!

ditto that, i would finished the "i thought this was my tip for doing what you did.." with "and for me not having the bouncer throw your sorry ass out right now" and like leogirl said, wtf is he going to do about it? complain to management admitting that he sexually assaulted you? sue you? pffft. i have one customer who's kind of a jerk and thinks dancers are 10 bucks more than they are. a dancer must have told him that before he was my "regular". i have -never- told him he's wrong. sometimes i feel bad about it, but then again, nah. i think of it as my "asshole bonus".

If a customer gives me more than $10 or $20 extra, I ask if they want change, unless it's a regular. I assume all of my regulars want to tip me well and they never take change from me when I do ask.

Sometimes I really don't have change, but if it's a substantial amount they want in return, I have them walk with me to the bar....a lot of the time, they tip me just for making change.

Honesty seems to work in my favor for the most part.
