    Default Foundation

Ok I'm not sure if anyone will be able to answer this, but I'll try anyway. I usually wear foundation whenever I go anywhere (school, shopping, etc.) because of all the acne scars on my face. Well I've noticed that while my foundation seems to match my skin color perfectly when I'm indoors, when I go outside my face looks very pink, and it's obvious that I'm wearing foundation- it looks like a pinkish mask on my face. Indoors, it doesn't look like I'm wearing foundation at all- there are no lines arouund my jawline or anything, and the color matches perfectly. How can I find a makeup that will match my skin when I'm outside? I go try on makeup at makeup counters, and it will look good while I'm at the counter, but when I get into my car and look in the mirror, my face is pink. It's very frustrating because I've tried many different brands of foundation, and they all seem to do this.

^ what brands have you tried? has a professional helped you?

i started wearing MAC last summer after realizing that i absolutely hated every cheap foundation i'd ever worn. they always looked fake in natural light. the MAC i use never, ever looks fake. i actually put it on in natural light anytime i can, just to make sure i've got good coverage, and i never see any problems. when i ran out of my foundation once, i just wore the concealer over my trouble areas, and it blended perfectly with the skin around it. i couldn't ever have done that with even the best of the cheap stuff.

maybe MAC isn't for you, but i'm sure that something out there is.

when you go shopping, try something darker and/or warmer than you think you need. if it's warmer, make sure to use blush to avoid looking washed out. i remember being really shocked at the MAC color that the saleslady used on me because it seemed too dark and yellowish, but it ended up being perfect once i got used to it not being as pink as the stuff i'd previously worn.

Go to a cosmetic counter if you don't have a drug store that provides testers of foundations. Tell the sales associate your problem. Have her choose a couple and swipe the colors on your jaw line. Borrow her hand mirror (your compact is too small, you need to look at the big picture) and walk outside into natural light. Lather, rise, repeat.

I've had very good luck with L'Oreal True Match. Very natural looking and blends great, though it does have a tendency to get oily later in the day (but then, most foundations on me do). You may also be wearing the wrong shade--perhaps you should try a "warm" shade (less pink) instead of a "cool" shade (pink). For years, I thought I was a warm until I finally tried the cool!

I have scars too. I use a combination of airbrush makeup (Era from sephora)/ Mac foundation, Laura Mercier Camoflauge Concealer, and Bare Essentuals Powder. It sounds like alot but I find that with quality makeup with good pigments, I need to use less.

You may need a foundation with more yellow undertones in it.

Hit a cosmetic counter like Mia suggested and just walk out into the sunlight.

Ahhh I think that's what I'm doing wrong. I've tried Estee Lauder, Lancome, MAC, and cheaper brands like Covergirl and Revlon, but I think I'm getting shades that are too cool for my skintone. I have naturally really pale skin, so I always thought that I was a cool skin tone, but maybe I'm actually warmer than what I thought. You'd think that the people at the makeup counters would have picked up on this... I'll have to go back and check out the warmer tones- it's just that those seem too dark for me. But I'll give em a shot. Thanks girlies!

try a foundation primer like this one:

    http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...egoryId=C10905

I'm pale also, and it gives me a much more natural look (esp. outside)

Right now I'm using Rimmel Recover in 201 classics beige. I don't have scars, but have awful lil' red veins. It's light but seems to cover & blend 'em in. I think I will try mineral makeup, prob. Physician's Formula w/spf

I was thinking the same thing. I would go to prescriptives and get them to custom blend a foundation for you that matches.

I have a shade of custom, very light, yellow-based foundation I made for a bridal client. If you want a sample, pm me.

I am very pale, but my skin has pink/blue undertones, which means I'm a cool skin tone.

Your skin probably has more of a gold/yellow undertone then pink...which is why your foundation looks like a mask in sunlight. try for warm complexions.

Ok this is kind of another weird question. I've been going tanning (I know, horrible for my skin, but I just want to get a good base tan going, and then I'm going to start using self tanner). When I didn't have my tan, my face was a different color than my neck. My face was a little darker than my neck, so you could actually see a line along my jawline. Could this be from the face cream I use for acne? I don't break out anymore, but I don't wanna stop using the face cream, because I would probably start breaking out again. The cream doesn't irritate my skin anymore (it did for the first week or two I used it). Could this be part of my problem? Now that I have a little bit of a tan, the line is starting to even out (I don't tan my face for as long as I tan my body so I can try to even out that line), but you can still tell that my face is a little darker. Could this be why my makeup looks like a mask- because my face and the rest of my body are 2 different colors to begin with?

There are a few very, very good treatments out there to get rid of those red veins. Light/laser therapy is excellent.
