    Default Contacts vs. Glasses (sorta)

I tried to do a search on this topic, but didn't come up with anything. So I figured I would ask anyways.

So this is an offshoot of the age-old question, glasses vs. contacts. I've been wearing glasses since grade-school, and I don't really think they sexy enough to wear as a dancer or modeling (which is something that I am recently getting in to). And I am blind as a bat without them. Now, the easy alternative to this is to get contacts, right? Well, I can't do that. I've got tiny eyes. I tried contacts in high school and spend a lovely hour in the eye-doctor's chair while he tried to pry open my eyes to stick in a contact before he admitted defeat. Regular soft contacts don't work for me. I've tried gas permiable lenses, which are smaller but they are hard and don't bend very much. So I can wear then for about two hours until my eyes are bloodshot and scratched up - they recommend not wearing them for longer than eight hours. Can't afford lasic surgery.

Sooo, I guess I was wondering if anyone else has this experience? My experience with contacts was several years ago, so does anyone know if they've started making smaller SOFT contacts? I figure if they can make contacts that stay in place for a month, they might have started creating different sizes of contacts. I hate wearing the glasses but I can't afford not to - or I'll be tripping up all over the place.

If you don't think your frames are sexy, you need new frames, simple as that--there are a slew of wonderful frame choices out there. Admittedly, I have a soft spot (hard spot? )for strippers in glasses, but I've always thought that the right frames are a great accoutrement for women.

    i wear contacts, always have.

there was girl at my old club who wore glasses, and banked! unfortunatly, she used to think that she was the ONLY one allowed to wear glasses in the club and put several girls down for needing to wear glasses too!

its a bit of a niche i guess.

You could try wearing the glasses on the floor, and intially onstage, then take them off part way through your routine--I think the guys would love this, too--like a woman letting down her hair.

I wear contacts, but when I first tried them I had trouble--since then they have come out with better and better stuff, so you might want to check into it.

they are continually improving lenses so make an appointment with a lens specialist and see how you go.

but i don't understand what you mean you can't afford lasik? you are a dancer aren't you? find out how much it is to get done, break that down into a reasonable time frame of let's say, 5 months, then find out how much you would have to save each week.

let's say it works out to be $4000 for both eyes, divide that by the 5 months you have given yourself which makes it $200 dollars a week for 20 weeks.
If you work four shifts a week, that makes it $50 extra per night. do not leave each night till you have made your target and your $50 bonus. OR sacrifice $50 out of each night's earnings and pretend you made $200 instead of $250.
shove that $50 in a money tin that cannot be "dipped" into and, by Otober the 15th 2006, YOU, runawaywaltz, will have lasik eye surgery.

even if you just put away $35 a shift, you have yourself lasik for christmas.

we do not have limitation to what we can achieve. we control our earnings and our expenditure and if you set your mind to it, you can afford anything you want.

    Good point about the Lasik...

And, yes--it took me FOREVER to get used to putting in the damned things. Once you get the hang of it it's easy, but it was quite a while before I did, and quite a while more before i was really comfortable doing it. Now I take them out and put 'em back in several times a day!

One trick is to put a drop or two of solution in the cup of the lense just before you put it in, as it's on your fingertip. The liquid in there has a way of literally leaping to your eye the moment it makes contact, and the lense kind of snaps along with it.

Once in my first club, where the other DJ was always begging me for a friday night (I never gave him one, and the dancers hated him so they told me not to, lol), and my contacts were lost or messed up or something, I had a very difficult choice.

Wearing my old beat-up glasses, with tape holding one of the arms on ( I never wore them except once in a while at home), going to work and trying to DJ half-blind, or giving up the friday.

I let him have it, lol...

When I first got contacts it took me about an hour to get them in and an hour to get them out. I could feel them in my eyes also for about the first week. I do know they come in different sizes but I don't know how small. Recently my prescription was filled with the wrong size and I could feel them in there and it drove me nuts. i couldn't adjust to wearing glasses so contacts was what I wanted and it just took some getting used to.

oh hey another thing to consider- get daily lenses. i wear focus dailies, i put a new pair in every day and chuck out the old ones at the end of the night. a little more expensive then 2weekly and monthly ones, but having fresh lenses in every day does make a difference esp when working in a smoky enviroment.

I agree, get sexy frames. I wear a pair of glasses (prescription) when I do a schoolgirl theme, and I bank!

Other days I just squint a bit to see across the room.

I want lasic as well, and am going to get it for my 20th bday (in nov. 2007) I'm self conscious in my glasses, but it sounds like I can see better then you. You need them, so wear them!

Get a guy friend (think about the custy you want to appeal to) and ask his opinion of different frames. Tell the assistant you want SEXY glasses, they'll help. You can evewn get black froames w/ rhinestones (I have a pair like that)! I won't go the contact route, but I will make my glasses work for me!

I have no idea if this would help, but wire-rimmed glasses seem to be what looks best on me if I do wear them--it's been quite a while.

    They show the least.

No, I'm not a dancer. I was a wanna-be for a while, but at this stage in my life, I don't have the time or the patience (any more added stress will probably make me explode. ^_^). So for now, I just lurk on the board and store the knowledge gained into my +Someday I'll Use+ mental file. So it won't be that easy to save up for Lasik. BUT, your idea is still a good one. Even if it won't have the quick results as it would if I were dancing, I can still do that with my biweekly paycheck, and eventually i'll have enough. ^_^

But it's a good idea about the frames.. I'll make an appointment to get an eye-exam and ask about smaller contacts, and then I will shop for sexier frames. One of two is bound to work!

    Thanks!

My honey has small eyes and a lot of trouble putting contacts in, so he wears the monthly ones to minimize the number of times he has to put them in/take them out. If you are not used to your fingers going towards your eye, your reflexes will take over and you will blink and close them and resist! Be persistent..practice on your own..Its much more comfortable to put your own finger near your eye than someone else's..even if he is a doctor.

I have fake glasses that I've been wearing on stage the last couple of days. I lift them up over my eyes to give customers smoldering looks, then take them off halfway through my set and play with them, fold them, etc, then stick them in my purse.

I don't know that it's the glasses, but I have been making much better money than I was last week! And I got lots of compliments on them yesterday.

Glasses are hot. There is one dancer at my club with glasses, and she banks! She even does amazing pole work with her glasses on (I think my bf is half in love with her, lol). But yes, if you can't wear contacts, still with the glasses. Go to LensCrafters and experiment with different frames. Besides, with modeling, it's not like you have to have perfect vision, so you can always take them off.
