    Default Hives!!! Help!

Ok guys I need a quick fix to get rid of my hives. I'm supposed to work tonight and I have hives everywhere and they itch really bad. They're the worst on my stomach, hips, and around my knees, but I also have them on my arms and thighs.

I can't take Benadryl (which usually helps) because that makes me really tired. I'm going to go take a cool bath with Aveeno, which usually helps with the itching for a while, but does anyone else know of anything that might work? I get hives because of stress, and also because of allergies, so I'm not sure which one it's from right now- it could be either.

Anyone have any advice?? There's no way I can go to work looking like this... lol...

I used to use aveeno anti itch cream for your body. Calamine lotion or hydrocortisone to stop the itching. Wear some oven mits so you cant scratch more.

I vote for the cortisone cream. Try some tagamet or pepcid. Take two tablets of the over-the-counter stuff. Generic is fine. It blocks the histamine from a different pathway than the benadryl. Should help and won't make you itchy. You could also try some OTC Claritin as well. Also, try to figure out what you were exposed to that caused the hives and avoid it...or is it just stress?

I'm not sure what is causing this. I started getting hives about 2 days ago, but when I woke up today they were everywhere, like a big rash. A few months ago I had this happen and the hives lasted for a month. I went to the doctor and he said that hives can also be caused by a virus, and if they last longer than two weeks without going away at all, then it's most likely from a virus. So I'm not sure what this is from yet, but I popped a Benadryl a lil while ago, so we'll see what happens. I rubbed cream all over myself after I took a cool bath, which helped the itching a little, but I'm still all bumpy. grrrr... I called in sick tonight because they're just not going away at all, but I'll try all this stuff so hopefully I can work tomorrow. Thanks guys!

Think if you've tried anything new....lotions, soaps, perfumes, laundry detergents, makeup, foods, shampoos, other hair products, medications. If this continues being a problem, you may need to seen an allergist and get tested to see if they can isolate an allergen causing the problem.

Use an Oatmeal bath, with Calamine lotion (NOT Caladryl, Calamine) and take some benadryl. If you have to work, you may not want to use the Calamine lotion. But, definitely put it on before you go to bed.

    Other than that...I don't know.

I've been dealing with recurring hives for the last 4 months. They were originally caused by Advil. Have you taken any OTC pain relievers in the last couple days?

Immerse your hives in the coldest water you can stand. That will help most with the itching. Ice packs, too.

If it's from something you consumed, it'll take a few days to go away. One thing to note, also, is that your immune system is more sensitive after a hive attack and will be for about a month, so watch what you take. I first started reacting to Advil, but I also reacted to Tylenol (which is apparently VERY rare to react to), the hair vitamins and CLA that were recommended on here (damn!), my birth control pills and now the Singulair that my doctor prescribed for me in addition to the Zyrtec I'd been taking. Yes, I'm allergic to allergy medicine!

So, yeah, it sucks. But consult with a doctor--they can help you find what it is.

Have you tried an OTC non-drowsy allergy pill like Claratin? That coupled with a cortisone cream and maybe Benadryl cream/spray would help.

I feel for you incidentally, I get them all the time. I just went for allergy testing and ended up with both forearms COVERED in hives that eventually merged into giant ones.

*laugh* I've got a few hives popping up right now. Time for the allergy meds.

If you can, see if your doctor will give you a brief prescription for prednisone. That'll knock those suckers out of the park. The down side (as I've posted elsewhere) is that the side effects really suck, so it's kind of a toss-up: no itching, but major bloat and insomnia.

I get hives reactions periodically. twice over the last year. One doctor gave me a prescription for steroid pills for 6 days with a decreasing dosage each day. He told me to bathe in oatmeal soap. They eventually went away. The Benadryl spray doesn't have very long lasting effects. Gold Bond spray worked a little better but was not long lasting. The creams sold over the counter in the drug store in my opinion are a waste of money. If you read the labels they ALL have the same active ingredients. The allergy pills don't work for me. A lime drink that I had when going out for dinner MAY have caused my hives one time.

Here is the natural cause and some cures for hives. I have used some but not all of these recommendations with success.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

The most common cause for hives is a histamine reaction triggered by allergies to certain foods such as strawberries, fish, shellfish peanuts, soy beef, citrus, fruit, milk and eggs.

Drugs such as penicillin, and exposure to chemicals including those in common household products such as laundry soap can also cause hives. For long term relief, such factors must be screened and addressed.

Chamomile essential oil applied topically can help relieve symptoms.

Check your diet to identify and avoid all foods to which you are allergic and sensitive by eating a varied diet and avoiding eating the same foods more than once or twice a week.

Drink parsley or peppermint teas. Peppermint oil taken orally can help.

Hydrochloric acid secretions in the stomach are usually low in people with hives along with a vitamin B defiency.

Taking Betaine Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) and Vitamin B is highly recommended. Pancreatic enzymes taken 3-4 times a day on an empty stomach especially during the initial outbreak along with Bromelain and Vitamin C (Not Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C but the Rose Hips kind) also taken away from meals is good.

During an outbreak, take 2 tablets of bicarbonate soda in water and sip every 15 minutes until symptoms ease.

A mix of Calamine lotion (they sell a clear version now in some stores) and Beta Carotene liquid helps ease symptoms applied topically. Fresh Coriander juice applied topically also helps relieve itching and inflammation.

To prevent a reoccurrence, supplement your diet with Vitamin B complex, Vitamin B-6, essential Fatty acids, bioflavonoids, and Panthothenic Acid. This part is iimportant.

You should be able to get these items in most natural foods or health stores. You'll waste your money on creams and pills found in the drug stores.

If these treatments don't work, you may want to go to a doctor where he may give you a shot and some steroids, but you still have to monitor your diet, and still need to take the vitamins and supplements listed above to take after you are healed. And the office call and shot may cost around $200 or so. The actual steroid prescription was only about $10. And some doctors may waste your time and money not knowing what to give you. Beware of that.

    I hope this helps.

Hives can be an outgrowth of Candida. I'm not too keen on the condition but most major illnesses originate from some form of Candida. Do a quick search about it on google or webMD you might find the root of the issue.....
