Thumbs up I had some electrolysis and...

Over the last two years I started growing about a dozen hairs on my chin which bugged the shit out of me. I waxed waxed them for a while, but my skin broke out. Plucking them one at a time was a pain, because some were on the underside and I had a hard time finding the buggers. I also had three hairs around my areolas zapped. Plus, I have dark, thick hair and it was likely just going to get worse.

I thought about doing electrolysis but I heard so many horror stories about scarring, infection and most scary, that it was agonizingly painful.

After doing some research, I found the Lucy Peters website and started going to them. I am so happy with the results that I'm thinking about having my underarms and bikini area done after they grew back after TWO YEARS of lasering.

The Lucy Peters website explains the difference between their brand of electrolysis and conventional. I have zero scarring (in fact the redness was minimal afterwards and went away by that night), no infection and the "pain" was practically non-existent. It hurt even less than plucking the hair!

Electrolysis is permanent and the way they do it at Lucy Peters makes sure you target hairs that are in the active stage. I know it sounds like I'm trying to shill for the company, but I was just so happy with the results that I had to share, especially since in the past there have been a handful of electrolysis threads. They have quite a few locations throughout the country and their website provides a lot of good info.

I'm interested in getting electrolysis myself. It's great that you're happy with ur results. How long did it take before you were hair free? How many sessions did u have to do? Was it really expensive? Thanks in advance for answering my questions!

I just went to Lucy Peters, didn't use conventional. Hair grows in cycles, but once they zap that particular hair it's gone forever. I was done in two separate half hour sessions and paid about $150.

Costs vary depending on where you live, but typically people pay for appointments in blocks of a half or full hour. Number of sessions depend on how large the area you're having done is. It's different for everyone.

Are you saying two year after laser the hair came back, or that two years of going, the hair was not gone?

I'm kind of astonished to hear this, since I did electrolysis for the stupid chin hairs for over a year and saw pretty much no results. Two sessions? Wow.

I've had loads of electrolysis - results depend on the person who does it. I once went to this lady and I noticed that the hair was always growing back super fast,so she was not doing it properly. I think she just wanted me to keep going back for more apts. It really depends on the person doing it. I have had great results though.

I spent a few hundred dollars on completely worthless lasering as well. I'd like to go to a place that has a guarantee, I don't know if that is offered anywhere or not.

How long ago did you go to Lucy Peters? I thought it was great after I first got lasered - until a few weeks later when it all came back.

I've had lasering done on my bikini and I'm happy with the results. I get little whispy hairs in some spots but nothing that leaves a rash like before if you shave it. Mostly it's the fine little hairs that won't go away. After I'm done with treatments I can go back for the rest of my life and only pay $1 per laser pulse if I need touch up. I never considered electrolysis though. Is it permanent?

With the lasering, it just kept growing back. The only place where the hair is still gone is a few square inches of my upper thighs and my happy trail. My pits had no change and the same for my bikini area.

Electrolysis is indeed supposed to be permanent. The probes ("needles") they use at Lucy Peters are different than in standard electrolysis. Sometimes an improperly trained technician can miss your follicles and just poke you repeatedly. If the probe doesn't go into the follicle, the electricity can't fry it.

How bad are those self-electolysis kits? I had my kitty lasered twice and it always grew back a few months later. I just gave up on it.

Self-electrolysis kits are at best a sham and at worst dangerous. The way it works is a sterile needle is inserted into the follicle and a regulated electric current kills the follicle to keep it from producing more hair. The electric tweezers that sometimes try to get passed off as electrolysis kits don't work, because the hair can't conduct the electricity to kill the follicle. And if you do get something to use at home with a needle, good luck managing to get it into the follicle, using the right amount of electric current and fighting off the infection that will likely result from the lack of sterilty in the needle.

    Go to a professional.
