Default Face lotion to block environmental junk?

I've fallen into the cycle. I wear gobs of makeup at work and expose my skin to constant smoke, which has caused major breakout problems. Then, during the day, I wear more makeup to cover up the breakouts, which in turn leads to more breakouts and even more makeup at work, and... okay. Yeah. Like I said: cycle.

I've decided to give my skin a rest during the day, even though it's super embarassing to walk around with blemishes like this... But it's going to be inevitable at work to wear makeup.

Has anyone ever found any awesome lotions or gels that work well *under* foundation in order to help keep makeup, smoke, and other "outside" stuff from affecting the skin underneath?

Laura Mercier, Nars, MAC, Trish McEvoy, Shiseido, and Sephora all make great makeup primers that are vitimin enriched and help act as a "barrier" between your skin and makeup. Extra bonus, your foundation lasts longer, too. You use it on top of your moisturizer before your foundation.

I would also recommend finding a product with sunscreen in it to further protect your skin.

first off try a diffrent foundation, the right one wont cause breakouts. for cheap neutrogena has a "skin clearing clean tint" with acne medication in it. any department store line will also have somthing for "problem" skin.

for a barrier i use jason super C toner. i get it at whole foods or online, it one of those all natural lines of skin care. vitamin c is an anti oxident, which is good for skin exposed to smoke or sun. its also calming and anti inflamitory. there is also somthing in it to help clear skin.

i dont like alot of the make up primers because they have so much silicon in them (same ingredent as smothing fluid for hair) its a little heavy for my skin.

and, i know this is such run of the mill advice but...drink more water, its what flushes toxins from the body.(and out your pores) if you smoke or drink you will really need this.
