    Default Hair help please!

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me their best tactics for keeping curls in otherwise straight hair. I mean the big, bouncy curls. I found the hottest curling iron I could (tried three different brands) and it looks good right after I do it, but by the time I get to work or 15 minutes into my shift they're gone. I use gel before it dries, then spray the hell out of my hair after curling - to no avail. I just end up with crunchy straight hair.

Why hasn't anyone invented a perm with enormous rods for chicks with long hair? Or have they? Any tips are greatly appreciated...

Yes, you can get a perm with 1.5" rods or larger. As long as your hair can wrap around the rod two and a half times, the hair will keep the perm. For a more mild, commitment-free perm, ISO invented a "semi-permanent". It washes out in 21 shampoos and is safe for highlighted hair. The problem is finding a stylist who'll do them.

In the meantime, try, Redken's Hot Sets. I swear by the stuff. I also round brush and blow dry before curling with a root lifter and a "thickening" product. Then I spray each section I'm curling with Hot Sets right before I use the iron, and then set with a medium hold hairspray. If your hair is healthy and/or too clean, curls don't last long at all. You got to trash it a little...

Thank you for the tips, Mia. I'm going to start calling the local salons.

You know, I've never thought of spraying before curling. I'll give that a try today.

Has anyone ever gotten the 1.5" perm? I'm nervous because it's been about 15 years since I've gotten a perm (and it was disastrous.) I have about 2 feet of hair that I'm very protective of, but curling it every day can't be good for it either.

make sure you are using the right products. i like pantene body building volumizing gel, its got good humidity resistance, also bumble and bumble styling lotion (i think that what it is, is a cream styler, but comes in a bottle, not the one in the tube) i find any hair spray i use will cause my hair to lose any bounce and almost dry out the curls? leaving me with crunchy half curly hair, so instead i use the tinyest bit of spray wax, it keeps the curls scrunchable. (not a word i know)

I use the spray wax too (it smells like coconut - I'm totally addicted.) I'd love to go without hairspray, but I really don't think they'll last. I'm going to try the volumizing gel and I found a hot roller set with all 1.5" curlers. Yippee.
