If you have a burn big enough, or severe enough to go the emergency department about, do not put anything on it other than a cool damp cloth. Otherwise, whether it be Colgate, butter, grease, beef fat or neosporin, we have to clean that crap off, causing more pain and damage than would have been necessary. I'm not sure about putting Colgate on a minor burn, other than the refreshing minty feeling it would give. Why not plain neosporin to prevent infection?

Use honey as a tranquilizer and sedative.

A substance similar to that found in the cough syrups is found in hot red pepper. Use red (cayenne) pepper with caution-it can irritate your tummy.
