    Default tipping the dj (rant)

Ok so where i work we have 2 dj's for nights. One plays me all good music the other play crap. I tip the good dj well. But last night when i gave the other dj my 6 dollar tip she gave me a dirty look. I know they talk about who pays what same for the door guys but i feel that if they dont do anything for me why should i do anything for them. We dont have a tip out rule at my club some girls tip nothing or a few dollars. I always tip at least $5. But i dont feel i should give them any more than that if they didnt do anything to help me make my money. Am I wrong?

Sometimes by just sucking it up and paying them more money (not an insane amount, though) you'll find that they play better music or will play what you like.

You must give to receive. I at least tip out 10$ to dj 5$ to the bar. And, that's if I have an ultra shitty night. Does the club have more than one stage? If so, the dj has to cater to all ents. not just one girl.

You could try the shrewd, diplomatic approach, telling her you'd like to hear some of the songs you like, and you'll tip her for it at the end of the night. Tell her this early in the night for maximum effect.

A variant of this strategy would be to walk up with a couple dollars and ask for a certain song, and make sure it's one the customers and manager will like so she can't give that excuse not to play it. tell her you'll still tip her at the end of the night, too.

Hopefully she'll get the idea from these methods--otherwise, give up and try to schedule yourself for the nights when the cool DJ is there.

Mandi: I totally agree with you. If the DJ does nothing for you why should you pay?

I have a mandatory amount I have to pay per shift, I don't mind paying it but I definately pay more to those who make me money/are nice than I do to the ones who do nothing/are not nice.

Don't feel bad for the other Dj I am sure she has her followers as well.
